Al-Qur'an Surah Ya-Sin Verse 33

Ya-Sin [36]: 33 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاٰيَةٌ لَّهُمُ الْاَرْضُ الْمَيْتَةُ ۖاَحْيَيْنٰهَا وَاَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُوْنَ (يس : ٣٦)

waāyatun
وَءَايَةٌ
And a Sign
lahumu
لَّهُمُ
for them
l-arḍu
ٱلْأَرْضُ
(is) the earth
l-maytatu
ٱلْمَيْتَةُ
dead
aḥyaynāhā
أَحْيَيْنَٰهَا
We give it life
wa-akhrajnā
وَأَخْرَجْنَا
and We bring forth
min'hā
مِنْهَا
from it
ḥabban
حَبًّا
grain
famin'hu
فَمِنْهُ
and from it
yakulūna
يَأْكُلُونَ
they eat

Transliteration:

Wa Aayatul lahumul ardul maitatu ahyainaahaa wa akhrajnaa minhaa habban faminhu yaakuloon (QS. Yāʾ Sīn:33)

English / Sahih Translation:

And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat. (QS. Ya-Sin, ayah 33)

And a sign for them, of the [truth of] resurrection (wa-yatun lahum is a preceding predicate) is the dead earth (read maytatu or mayyitatu) which We revive, with water (ahyaynh is the subject) and out of which We bring forth grain, such as wheat, so that they eat thereof;

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Proof of the Creator of the Universe and of Life after Death

Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, says;

وَايَةٌ لَّهُمُ

And a sign for them,

means, evidence for them of the existence of the Creator and His perfect power and ability to resurrect the dead,

الاَْرْضُ الْمَيْتَةُ
is the dead land.

means, when it is dead and arid, with no vegetation, then Allah sends water upon it, it is stirred (to life), and it swells and puts forth every lovely kind (of growth).

Allah says;

أَحْيَيْنَاهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ



We give it life, and We bring forth from it grains, so that they eat thereof.

meaning, `We have made it a provision for them and their cattle.'

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّاتٍ مِن نَّخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ الْعُيُونِ
