Al-Qur'an Surah Fatir Verse 45

Fatir [35]: 45 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ اللّٰهُ النَّاسَ بِمَا كَسَبُوْا مَا تَرَكَ عَلٰى ظَهْرِهَا مِنْ دَاۤبَّةٍ وَّلٰكِنْ يُّؤَخِّرُهُمْ اِلٰٓى اَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّىۚ فَاِذَا جَاۤءَ اَجَلُهُمْ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهٖ بَصِيْرًا ࣖ (فاطر : ٣٥)

فَإِذَا
And when

جَآءَ

ajaluhum
أَجَلُهُمْ
their term
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
kāna
كَانَ

biʿibādihi
بِعِبَادِهِۦ
of His slaves
baṣīran
بَصِيرًۢا
All-Seer

Transliteration:

Wa law yu'aakhizul laahun naasa bima kasaboo maa taraka 'alaa zahrihaa min daaabbatinw wa laakiny yu'akhkhiruhum ilaaa ajalim musamman fa izaa jaaa'a ajaluhum fa innal laaha kaana bi'ibaadihee Baseeraa (QS. Fāṭir:45)

English / Sahih Translation:

And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon it [i.e., the earth] any creature. But He defers them for a specified term. And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, Seeing. (QS. Fatir, ayah 45)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

If Allah were to take mankind to task for what they did, He would have not left a living creature on its back, but He delays them upto an appointed time. So when their time will come, then Allah is the One who will see His slaves.

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

If Allah were to punish people ˹immediately˺ for what they have committed, He would not have left a single living being on earth. But He delays them for an appointed term. And when their time arrives, then surely Allah is All-Seeing of His servants.

If Allah were to take people to task for what they did, He would not leave a single living being on earth, but He gives them respite for an appointed term. When their appointed time comes, then Allah is All-Seeing of His slaves.

If God should take men to task for what they have earned He would not leave upon the face of the earth one creature that crawls; but He is deferring them to a stated term. But when their term is come -- surely God sees His servants.

If God were to punish people [at once] for the wrong they have done, there would not be a single creature left on the surface of the earth. He gives them respite for a stated time and, whenever their time comes, God has been watching His servants.

Were Allah to take mankind to task for that which they earn, He would not leave a moving creature on the back thereof; but He putteth them off until a term appointed; then when their term cometh, - then, verily Allah is ever of His bondmen a Beholder.

If Allah were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature; but He gives them respite for a stated Term; when their Term expires, verily Allah has in His sight all His Servants.

If Allah were to take people to task for their deeds, He would not leave any living creature on earth, but He grants them respite to an appointed time. When their appointed time comes to an end, surely Allah fully observes His servants.

If God were to seize men for their doings, not a living being would be left upon the earth. But He gives them respite for a time ordained. When their time is come, surely God will keep (the interest of) His creatures in view.

Ahmed Raza Khan

If Allah were to seize people upon their deeds, He would leave no creature walking on the surface of the earth, but He gives them respite till a fixed term; and when their term comes – so indeed Allah is observing all His bondmen!

Ali Quli Qarai

Were Allah to take humans to task because of what they have earned, He would not leave any living being on its back. But He respites them until a specified time, and when their time comes, [He retributes them in accordance with their works], for Allah has been watching His servants.

Ali Ünal

If God were to take people to task for whatever wrong they commit (and accumulate to their account), He would not leave on earth any living creature. But He grants them respite to a term appointed (by Him). When the end of their term falls, (He treats each as He wills according to his deserts), for surely He sees His servants well.

Amatul Rahman Omar

If Allâh were to take people to task for (every little of) their evil doings He would not leave on the surface of this (earth) a single living creature. But He (out of His all embracing mercy) grants them respite till a stated term. And when their appointed time comes (they come to realise that) Allâh has His servants well under (His) eyes (He deals with them according to the nature of their deeds).

English Literal

And if God punishes/takes the people because (of) what they earned/acquired/won , He would not have left on its back/surface/top from a walker/creeper/crawler , and but He delays them to a named/identified term/time, so if their term/time came, so then God was/is with His worshippers/slaves seeing/knowing/understanding.315

Have they not travelled in the land and seen how was the end of those before them while they were stronger than these in power? And Allah is not such that any thing in the heavens or in the earth should escape Him; surely He is Knowing, Powerful.

Were God to punish people for their deeds immediately, not one creature would have survived on earth. However, He has given them a respite for an appointed time and when their term comes to an end, let it be known that God watches over His servants.

If Allah should take people to task for what they have earned, He would not leave one creature that crawls upon the face (of the earth)! But, He is deferring them to a named time. And when their time comes, indeed, Allah is the Seer of His worshipers.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

And if Allah were to punish men for that which they earned, He would not leave a moving creature on the surface of the earth; but He gives them respite to an appointed term, and when their term comes, then verily, Allah is Ever All-Seer of His servants.

If God were to take men to task for their misdeeds, He would not leave a single living creature on the surface of the earth; but He grants them respite until an appointed time; and when their appointed time comes, then they will know that God is indeed observant of all His servants.

Talal Itani

If God were to punish the people for what they have earned, He would not leave a single living creature on its surface. But He defers them until a stated time. Then, when their time has arrived—God is Observant of His creatures.

Tafsir jalalayn

Were God to take mankind to task for what they have acquired, of acts of disobedience, He would not leave on its surface, that is, the earth's, a single creature, a single living thing moving thereon. But He reprieves them to an appointed term, namely, [to] the Day of Resurrection. And when their term comes -- then truly [they will know that] God is ever Seer of His servants, and so He will requite them according to [the nature of] their deeds, rewarding the believers and punishing the disbelievers. Meccan, except for verse 45, which is Medinese; it consists of 83 verses, revealed after [srat] al-Jinn.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَلَوْ يُوَاخِذُ اللَّهُ النَّاسَ بِمَا كَسَبُوا مَا تَرَكَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا مِن دَابَّةٍ

And if Allah were to punish men for that which they earned, He would not leave a moving creature on the surface of the earth;

meaning, if He were to punish them for all of their sins, He would destroy all the people of the earth and all that they own of livestock and crops.

Sa`id bin Jubayr and As-Suddi commented on the Ayah;
مَا تَرَكَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا مِن دَابَّةٍ
(He would not leave a moving creature on the surface of the earth),

"This means, He would have stopped sending rain to them, and all the animals would have died as a result."

وَلَكِن يُوَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى

but He gives them respite to an appointed term,

means, but He is delaying until the Day of Resurrection, when He will bring them to account and will reward or punish each one according to his deeds;He will reward those who obeyed Him and will punish those who disobeyed Him.

He says;

فَإِذَا جَاء أَجَلُهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِ بَصِيرًا



and when their term comes, then verily, Allah is Ever All-Seer of His servants.
