Al-Qur'an Surah Fatir Verse 4

Mufti Taqi Usmani

(O Prophet,) if they reject you, (it is not something new, because) many messengers have been rejected before you. It is to Allah that all matters are to be referred.

If you are rejected by them, so too were messengers before you. And to Allah ˹all˺ matters will be returned ˹for judgment˺.

(O Prophet), (there is nothing novel in it) if they cry lies to you; Messengers before you were also cried lies to. To Allah shall all matters be sent back.

And if they deny you, many Noble Messengers were denied before you; and towards Allah only is the return of all matters.

If they cry lies to you (you need not bother because) other Messengers (of God) have already been cried lies to before you. Yet all matters stand referred to Allâh (for His final judgment).

English Literal

And if they deny/falsify you , so messengers from before you had been denied/falsified , to God return the matters/affairs.

And if they deny you, many Noble Messengers were denied before you; and towards Allah only is the return of all matters.

O men! Call to mind the favour of Allah on you; is there any creator besides Allah who gives you sustenance from the heaven and the earth? There is no God but He; whither are you then turned?

Tafsir jalalayn

And if they deny you, O Muhammad (s), with regard to your coming with [the message of] God's Oneness, resurrection, reckoning and punishment, verily [other] messengers before you were denied, in this respect, so be steadfast as they were steadfast; and to God all matters are returned, in the Hereafter, when He will requite the deniers and grant victory to the messengers.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Consolation in the fact that the previous Messengers were denied, and a reminder of the Resurrection

Allah says;

وَإِن يُكَذِّبُوكَ فَقَدْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلٌ مِّن قَبْلِكَ

And if they deny you, so were Messengers denied before you.

Allah says;`Even if these idolators who associate others with Allah disbelieve in you, O Muhammad, and go against the Message of Tawhid that you have brought, you have an example in the Messengers who came before you.'

They also brought a clear Message to their people and told them to worship Allah alone, but their people denied them and went against them.

وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الامُورُ



And to Allah return all matters (for decision).

means, `We will requite them for that in full.'

Then Allah says
