(Sheba)

11

اَنِ اعْمَلْ سٰبِغٰتٍ وَّقَدِّرْ فِى السَّرْدِ وَاعْمَلُوْا صَالِحًاۗ اِنِّيْ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ ١١

ani
أَنِ
That
iʿ'mal
ٱعْمَلْ
make
sābighātin
سَٰبِغَٰتٍ
full coats of mail
waqaddir
وَقَدِّرْ
and measure precisely
فِى
[of]
l-sardi
ٱلسَّرْدِۖ
the links (of armor)
wa-iʿ'malū
وَٱعْمَلُوا۟
and work
ṣāliḥan
صَٰلِحًاۖ
righteousness
innī
إِنِّى
Indeed I Am
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do
baṣīrun
بَصِيرٌ
All-Seer
[Commanding him], "Make full coats of mail and calculate [precisely] the links, and work [all of you] righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Seeing." (QS. [34] Saba: 11)
Tafsir
12

وَلِسُلَيْمٰنَ الرِّيْحَ غُدُوُّهَا شَهْرٌ وَّرَوَاحُهَا شَهْرٌۚ وَاَسَلْنَا لَهٗ عَيْنَ الْقِطْرِۗ وَمِنَ الْجِنِّ مَنْ يَّعْمَلُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ بِاِذْنِ رَبِّهٖۗ وَمَنْ يَّزِغْ مِنْهُمْ عَنْ اَمْرِنَا نُذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ السَّعِيْرِ ١٢

walisulaymāna
وَلِسُلَيْمَٰنَ
And to Sulaiman
l-rīḥa
ٱلرِّيحَ
the wind
ghuduwwuhā
غُدُوُّهَا
its morning course
shahrun
شَهْرٌ
(was) a month
warawāḥuhā
وَرَوَاحُهَا
and its afternoon course
shahrun
شَهْرٌۖ
(was) a month
wa-asalnā
وَأَسَلْنَا
and We caused to flow
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
ʿayna
عَيْنَ
a spring
l-qiṭ'ri
ٱلْقِطْرِۖ
(of) molten copper
wamina
وَمِنَ
And [of]
l-jini
ٱلْجِنِّ
the jinn
man
مَن
who
yaʿmalu
يَعْمَلُ
worked
bayna
بَيْنَ
before him
yadayhi
يَدَيْهِ
before him
bi-idh'ni
بِإِذْنِ
by the permission
rabbihi
رَبِّهِۦۖ
(of) his Lord
waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yazigh
يَزِغْ
deviated
min'hum
مِنْهُمْ
among them
ʿan
عَنْ
from
amrinā
أَمْرِنَا
Our Command
nudhiq'hu
نُذِقْهُ
We will make him taste
min
مِنْ
of
ʿadhābi
عَذَابِ
(the) punishment
l-saʿīri
ٱلسَّعِيرِ
(of) the Blaze
And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind – its morning [journey was that of] a month – and its afternoon [journey was that of] a month, and We made flow for him a spring of [liquid] copper. And among the jinn were those who worked for him by the permission of his Lord. And whoever deviated among them from Our command – We will make him taste of the punishment of the Blaze. (QS. [34] Saba: 12)
Tafsir
13

يَعْمَلُوْنَ لَهٗ مَا يَشَاۤءُ مِنْ مَّحَارِيْبَ وَتَمَاثِيْلَ وَجِفَانٍ كَالْجَوَابِ وَقُدُوْرٍ رّٰسِيٰتٍۗ اِعْمَلُوْٓا اٰلَ دَاوٗدَ شُكْرًا ۗوَقَلِيْلٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِيَ الشَّكُوْرُ ١٣

yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
They worked
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
مَا
what
yashāu
يَشَآءُ
he willed
min
مِن
of
maḥārība
مَّحَٰرِيبَ
elevated chambers
watamāthīla
وَتَمَٰثِيلَ
and statues
wajifānin
وَجِفَانٍ
and bowls
kal-jawābi
كَٱلْجَوَابِ
like reservoirs
waqudūrin
وَقُدُورٍ
and cooking-pots
rāsiyātin
رَّاسِيَٰتٍۚ
fixed
iʿ'malū
ٱعْمَلُوٓا۟
"Work
āla
ءَالَ
O family
dāwūda
دَاوُۥدَ
(of) Dawood!
shuk'ran
شُكْرًاۚ
(in) gratitude"
waqalīlun
وَقَلِيلٌ
But few
min
مِّنْ
of
ʿibādiya
عِبَادِىَ
My slaves
l-shakūru
ٱلشَّكُورُ
(are) grateful
They made for him what he willed of elevated chambers, statues, bowls like reservoirs, and stationary kettles. [We said], "Work, O family of David, in gratitude." And few of My servants are grateful. (QS. [34] Saba: 13)
Tafsir
14

فَلَمَّا قَضَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ الْمَوْتَ مَا دَلَّهُمْ عَلٰى مَوْتِهٖٓ اِلَّا دَاۤبَّةُ الْاَرْضِ تَأْكُلُ مِنْسَاَتَهٗ ۚفَلَمَّا خَرَّ تَبَيَّنَتِ الْجِنُّ اَنْ لَّوْ كَانُوْا يَعْلَمُوْنَ الْغَيْبَ مَا لَبِثُوْا فِى الْعَذَابِ الْمُهِيْنِۗ ١٤

falammā
فَلَمَّا
Then when
qaḍaynā
قَضَيْنَا
We decreed
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
for him
l-mawta
ٱلْمَوْتَ
the death
مَا
not
dallahum
دَلَّهُمْ
indicated to them
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
[on]
mawtihi
مَوْتِهِۦٓ
his death
illā
إِلَّا
except
dābbatu
دَآبَّةُ
a creature
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
(of) the earth
takulu
تَأْكُلُ
eating
minsa-atahu
مِنسَأَتَهُۥۖ
his staff
falammā
فَلَمَّا
But when
kharra
خَرَّ
he fell down
tabayyanati
تَبَيَّنَتِ
became clear
l-jinu
ٱلْجِنُّ
(to) the jinn
an
أَن
that
law
لَّوْ
if
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they had
yaʿlamūna
يَعْلَمُونَ
known
l-ghayba
ٱلْغَيْبَ
the unseen
مَا
not
labithū
لَبِثُوا۟
they (would have) remained
فِى
in
l-ʿadhābi
ٱلْعَذَابِ
the punishment
l-muhīni
ٱلْمُهِينِ
humiliating
And when We decreed for him [i.e., Solomon] death, nothing indicated to them [i.e., the jinn] his death except a creature of the earth eating his staff. But when he fell, it became clear to the jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in humiliating punishment. (QS. [34] Saba: 14)
Tafsir
15

لَقَدْ كَانَ لِسَبَاٍ فِيْ مَسْكَنِهِمْ اٰيَةٌ ۚجَنَّتٰنِ عَنْ يَّمِيْنٍ وَّشِمَالٍ ەۗ كُلُوْا مِنْ رِّزْقِ رَبِّكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوْا لَهٗ ۗبَلْدَةٌ طَيِّبَةٌ وَّرَبٌّ غَفُوْرٌ ١٥

لَقَدْ
Certainly
kāna
كَانَ
(there) was
lisaba-in
لِسَبَإٍ
for Saba
فِى
in
maskanihim
مَسْكَنِهِمْ
their dwelling place
āyatun
ءَايَةٌۖ
a sign:
jannatāni
جَنَّتَانِ
Two gardens
ʿan
عَن
on
yamīnin
يَمِينٍ
(the) right
washimālin
وَشِمَالٍۖ
and (on the) left
kulū
كُلُوا۟
"Eat
min
مِن
from
riz'qi
رِّزْقِ
(the) provision
rabbikum
رَبِّكُمْ
(of) your Lord
wa-ush'kurū
وَٱشْكُرُوا۟
and be grateful
lahu
لَهُۥۚ
to Him
baldatun
بَلْدَةٌ
A land
ṭayyibatun
طَيِّبَةٌ
good
warabbun
وَرَبٌّ
and a Lord
ghafūrun
غَفُورٌ
Oft-Forgiving"
There was for [the tribe of] Saba' in their dwelling place a sign: two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord." (QS. [34] Saba: 15)
Tafsir
16

فَاَعْرَضُوْا فَاَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَيْلَ الْعَرِمِ وَبَدَّلْنٰهُمْ بِجَنَّتَيْهِمْ جَنَّتَيْنِ ذَوَاتَيْ اُكُلٍ خَمْطٍ وَّاَثْلٍ وَّشَيْءٍ مِّنْ سِدْرٍ قَلِيْلٍ ١٦

fa-aʿraḍū
فَأَعْرَضُوا۟
But they turned away
fa-arsalnā
فَأَرْسَلْنَا
so We sent
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
upon them
sayla
سَيْلَ
(the) flood
l-ʿarimi
ٱلْعَرِمِ
(of) the dam
wabaddalnāhum
وَبَدَّلْنَٰهُم
and We changed for them
bijannatayhim
بِجَنَّتَيْهِمْ
their two gardens
jannatayni
جَنَّتَيْنِ
(with) two gardens
dhawātay
ذَوَاتَىْ
producing fruit
ukulin
أُكُلٍ
producing fruit
khamṭin
خَمْطٍ
bitter
wa-athlin
وَأَثْلٍ
and tamarisks
washayin
وَشَىْءٍ
and (some)thing
min
مِّن
of
sid'rin
سِدْرٍ
lote trees
qalīlin
قَلِيلٍ
few
But they turned away [refusing], so We sent upon them the flood of the dam, and We replaced their two [fields of] gardens with gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks and something of sparse lote trees. (QS. [34] Saba: 16)
Tafsir
17

ذٰلِكَ جَزَيْنٰهُمْ بِمَا كَفَرُوْاۗ وَهَلْ نُجٰزِيْٓ اِلَّا الْكَفُوْرَ ١٧

dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
jazaynāhum
جَزَيْنَٰهُم
We recompensed them
bimā
بِمَا
because
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟ۖ
they disbelieved
wahal
وَهَلْ
And not
nujāzī
نُجَٰزِىٓ
We recompense
illā
إِلَّا
except
l-kafūra
ٱلْكَفُورَ
the ungrateful
[By] that We repaid them because they disbelieved. And do We [thus] repay except the ungrateful? (QS. [34] Saba: 17)
Tafsir
18

وَجَعَلْنَا بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْقُرَى الَّتِيْ بٰرَكْنَا فِيْهَا قُرًى ظَاهِرَةً وَّقَدَّرْنَا فِيْهَا السَّيْرَۗ سِيْرُوْا فِيْهَا لَيَالِيَ وَاَيَّامًا اٰمِنِيْنَ ١٨

wajaʿalnā
وَجَعَلْنَا
And We made
baynahum
بَيْنَهُمْ
between them
wabayna
وَبَيْنَ
and between
l-qurā
ٱلْقُرَى
the towns
allatī
ٱلَّتِى
which
bāraknā
بَٰرَكْنَا
We had blessed
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
quran
قُرًى
towns
ẓāhiratan
ظَٰهِرَةً
visible
waqaddarnā
وَقَدَّرْنَا
And We determined
fīhā
فِيهَا
between them
l-sayra
ٱلسَّيْرَۖ
the journey
sīrū
سِيرُوا۟
"Travel
fīhā
فِيهَا
between them
layāliya
لَيَالِىَ
(by) night
wa-ayyāman
وَأَيَّامًا
and (by) day
āminīna
ءَامِنِينَ
safely"
And We placed between them and the cities which We had blessed [many] visible cities. And We determined between them the [distances of] journey, [saying], "Travel between them by night or by day in safety." (QS. [34] Saba: 18)
Tafsir
19

فَقَالُوْا رَبَّنَا بٰعِدْ بَيْنَ اَسْفَارِنَا وَظَلَمُوْٓا اَنْفُسَهُمْ فَجَعَلْنٰهُمْ اَحَادِيْثَ وَمَزَّقْنٰهُمْ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقٍۗ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُوْرٍ ١٩

faqālū
فَقَالُوا۟
But they said
rabbanā
رَبَّنَا
"Our Lord
bāʿid
بَٰعِدْ
lengthen (the distance)
bayna
بَيْنَ
between
asfārinā
أَسْفَارِنَا
our journeys"
waẓalamū
وَظَلَمُوٓا۟
And they wronged
anfusahum
أَنفُسَهُمْ
themselves
fajaʿalnāhum
فَجَعَلْنَٰهُمْ
so We made them
aḥādītha
أَحَادِيثَ
narrations
wamazzaqnāhum
وَمَزَّقْنَٰهُمْ
and We dispersed them
kulla
كُلَّ
(in) a total
mumazzaqin
مُمَزَّقٍۚ
dispersion
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
فِى
in
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
laāyātin
لَءَايَٰتٍ
surely (are) Signs
likulli
لِّكُلِّ
for everyone
ṣabbārin
صَبَّارٍ
patient
shakūrin
شَكُورٍ
(and) grateful
But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys," and wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and dispersed them in total dispersion. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful. (QS. [34] Saba: 19)
Tafsir
20

وَلَقَدْ صَدَّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ اِبْلِيْسُ ظَنَّهٗ فَاتَّبَعُوْهُ اِلَّا فَرِيْقًا مِّنَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ ٢٠

walaqad
وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
ṣaddaqa
صَدَّقَ
found true
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
about them
ib'līsu
إِبْلِيسُ
Iblis
ẓannahu
ظَنَّهُۥ
his assumption
fa-ittabaʿūhu
فَٱتَّبَعُوهُ
so they followed him
illā
إِلَّا
except
farīqan
فَرِيقًا
a group
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-mu'minīna
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
the believers
And Iblees had already confirmed through them his assumption, so they followed him, except for a party of believers. (QS. [34] Saba: 20)
