Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Ahzab Verse 8

Al-Ahzab [33]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

لِّيَسْـَٔلَ الصّٰدِقِيْنَ عَنْ صِدْقِهِمْ ۚوَاَعَدَّ لِلْكٰفِرِيْنَ عَذَابًا اَلِيْمًا ࣖ (الأحزاب : ٣٣)

liyasala
لِّيَسْـَٔلَ
That He may ask
l-ṣādiqīna
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
the truthful
ʿan
عَن
about
ṣid'qihim
صِدْقِهِمْۚ
their truth
wa-aʿadda
وَأَعَدَّ
And He has prepared
lil'kāfirīna
لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ
for the disbelievers
ʿadhāban
عَذَابًا
a punishment
alīman
أَلِيمًا
painful

Transliteration:

Liyas'alas saadiqeena 'an sidqihim; wa a'adda lilkaa fireena 'azaaban aleemaa (QS. al-ʾAḥzāb:8)

English / Sahih Translation:

That He may question the truthful about their truth. And He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment. (QS. Al-Ahzab, ayah 8)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

so that He (Allah) may ask the truthful ones about their truth. And He has prepared a painful punishment for the disbelievers.

(It was) so that God may ask the truthful of their sincerity. As for the infidels, He has prepared a painful punishment for them.

(The Lord did it) so that He may let the truthful give expression to their truthfulness (-whether they were true to their covenant). And (whereas He will reward the true believers); He has in store a woeful punishment for the disbelievers.

English Literal

(It is for God) to ask/question the truthful about their truthfulness, and He prepared to the disbelievers a painful torture.

That He may ask the sincere about their sincerity. He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment.

Tafsir jalalayn

that He, God, may question the truthful about their truthfulness, in delivering the Message, as a way thereby to [justifiably] reproach the disbelievers; and He, exalted be He, has prepared for those who disbelieve, in them, a painful chastisement (`adhban alman is a supplement to akhadhn, `We took').

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

لِيَسْأَلَ الصَّادِقِينَ عَن صِدْقِهِمْ

That He may ask the truthful about their truth.

Mujahid said;

"This refers to, those who convey the Message from the Messengers."

وَأَعَدَّ لِلْكَافِرِينَ

And He has prepared for the disbelievers. i.e., among their nations,

عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا



a painful torment.

i.e., agonizing.

We bear witness that the Messengers did indeed convey the Message of their Lord and advised their nations, and that they clearly showed them the truth in which there is no confusion, doubt or ambiguity, even though they were rejected by the ignorant, stubborn and rebellious wrongdoers. What the Messengers brought is the truth, and whoever opposes them is misguided. As the people of Paradise will say;

لَقَدْ جَأءَتْ رُسُلُ رَبِّنَا بِالْحَقِّ

Indeed, the Messengers of our Lord did come with the truth. (7;43
