Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Ahzab Verse 22
Al-Ahzab [33]: 22 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَلَمَّا رَاَ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ الْاَحْزَابَۙ قَالُوْا هٰذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا اللّٰهُ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ وَصَدَقَ اللّٰهُ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ ۖوَمَا زَادَهُمْ اِلَّآ اِيْمَانًا وَّتَسْلِيْمًاۗ (الأحزاب : ٣٣)

Transliteration:
Wa lammaa ra al mu'minoonal Ahzaaba qaaloo haaza maa wa'adanal laahu wa Rasooluh; wa maa zaadahum illaaa eemaananw wa tasleemaa(QS. al-ʾAḥzāb:22)
English / Sahih Translation:
And when the believers saw the companies, they said, "This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us, and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth." And it increased them only in faith and acceptance. (QS. Al-Ahzab, ayah 22)

When the believers saw the coalition forces, they said, “This is what Allah and His messenger had promised to us, and Allah and His messenger had told the truth.” It only improved them further in faith and submission.

When the believers saw the enemy alliance, they said, “This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us. The promise of Allah and His Messenger has come true.” And this only increased them in faith and submission.

And as soon as the believers saw (the troops of) the confederates they said, `This is what Allâh and His Messenger promised us (about the defeat and discomfiture of the hosts of disbelievers and eventual victory of Islam); and Allâh and His Messenger spoke the truth. English Literal
And when the believers saw/understood the groups/parties, they said: "That (is) what God promised us and His messenger, and God was/is truthful and His messenger." And (it) did not increase them except belief and submission/surrender.

And when the Muslims saw the armies, they said, “This is what Allah and His Noble Messenger promised us, and Allah and His Noble Messenger have spoken the truth”; and it did not increase anything for them but faith and acceptance of Allah’s will.

Tafsir jalalayn
And when the believers saw the confederates, of disbelievers, they said, `This is what God and His Messenger promised us, in the way of trial and [assistance to] victory, and God and His Messenger were truthful', about the promise. And that only increased them in faith, in belief in God's promise, and submission, to His command.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَلَمَّا رَأَى الْمُوْمِنُونَ الاَْحْزَابَ قَالُوا هَذَا مَا وَعَدَنَا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَصَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
And when the believers saw the Confederates, they said;"This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us; and Allah and His Messenger had spoken the truth."
Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, and Qatadah said;
"They mean what Allah said in Surah Al-Baqarah;
أَمْ حَسِبْتُمْ أَن تَدْخُلُواْ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِكُم مَّثَلُ الَّذِينَ خَلَوْاْ مِن قَبْلِكُم مَّسَّتْهُمُ الْبَأْسَأءُ وَالضَّرَّاءُ وَزُلْزِلُواْ حَتَّى يَقُولَ الرَّسُولُ وَالَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُ مَتَى نَصْرُ اللَّهِ أَلَا إِنَّ نَصْرَ اللَّهِ قَرِيبٌ
Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you!
They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the help of Allah!"
Yes! Certainly, the help of Allah is near! (2;214)
meaning, `this is the trial and test that Allah and His Messenger promised us would be followed by the help and victory of Allah that is near.'
Allah says;
وَصَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
(and Allah and His Messenger had spoken the truth).
وَمَا زَادَهُمْ إِلاَّ إِيمَانًا وَتَسْلِيمًا
And it only added to their faith and to their submissiveness.
This indicates that faith can increase and strengthen in accordance with people's circumstances, as the majority of scholars stated;faith can increase and decrease.
We have stated this at the beginning of our commentary on Al-Bukhari, praise be to Allah.
وَمَا زَادَهُمْ
(And it only added) means, at that time of stress and difficulty.
إِلاَّ إِيمَانًا
(to their faith) in Allah,
وَتَسْلِيمًا
(and to their submissiveness). means their submission to His commands and their obedience to His Messenger
