Al-Qur'an Surah As-Sajdah Verse 9

As-Sajdah [32]: 9 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ثُمَّ سَوّٰىهُ وَنَفَخَ فِيْهِ مِنْ رُّوْحِهٖ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْاَبْصَارَ وَالْاَفْـِٕدَةَۗ قَلِيْلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُوْنَ (السجدة : ٣٢)

and the sight
wal-afidata
وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَۚ
and feelings;
qalīlan
قَلِيلًا
little
مَّا
[what]
tashkurūna
تَشْكُرُونَ
thanks you give

Transliteration:

Thumma sawwaahu wa nafakha feehi mir roohihih; wa ja'ala lakumus sam'a wal-absaara wal-af'idah; taqaleelam maa tashkuroon (QS. as-Sajdah:9)

English / Sahih Translation:

Then He proportioned him and breathed into him from His [created] soul and made for you hearing and vision and hearts [i.e., intellect]; little are you grateful. (QS. As-Sajdah, ayah 9)

Then He gave him a proportioned shape, and breathed into him of His spirit. And He granted you the (power of) hearing and the eyes and the hearts. Little you give thanks.

then He fashioned them and had a spirit of His Own ˹creation˺ breathed into them. And He gave you hearing, sight, and intellect. ˹Yet˺ you hardly give any thanks.

Then He endowed him with perfect faculties (of head and heart in accordance with what he is meant to be) and breathed into him of His spirit (thus made him the recipient of the Divine word). And He has given you hearing, eyes and hearts. Yet little are the thanks you give.

English Literal

Then He straightened Him, and He blew in Him from His Soul/Spirit , and He made/put for you the hearing/listening, and the eye sights/knowledge, and the hearts , little (is) what you thank/be grateful.

Then made him proper and blew into him a spirit from Him, and bestowed ears and eyes and hearts to you; very little thanks do you offer!

Then He made his progeny of an extract, of a fluid held in low esteem.

Then He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him the soul; and He gave you hearing, sight and the sense of deduction. Little is the thanks you give!

Wahiduddin Khan

Then He moulded him; He breathed His Spirit into him; He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts. How seldom you are grateful!

Talal Itani

Then He proportioned him, and breathed into him of His Spirit. Then He gave you the hearing, and the eyesight, and the brains—but rarely do you give thanks.

Tafsir jalalayn

then He proportioned him, that is to say, He created Adam, and breathed into him of His spirit, in other words, He made him a living sensory being after having been an inanimate thing. And He made for you, in other words, for [you] his descendants, hearing, meaning, ears, and sight and hearts. Little thanks do you give (m here is extra, emphasising the `littleness' [of the thanks]).

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

ثُمَّ سَوَّاهُ

Then He fashioned him in due proportion,

means, when He created Adam from clay, He created him and gave him shape and made him upright.

وَنَفَخَ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِهِ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالاَْبْصَارَ وَالاَْفْيِدَةَ

and breathed into him the soul; and He gave you hearing, sight and the sense of deduction.

means, reason.

قَلِيلً مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ



Little is the thanks you give!

means, for these strengths with which Allah has provided you; the one who is truly blessed is the one who uses them to worship and obey his Lord, may He be exalted and glorified
