Surah As-Sajdah - Page: 2

(The Prostration)

11

۞ قُلْ يَتَوَفّٰىكُمْ مَّلَكُ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِيْ وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ثُمَّ اِلٰى رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُوْنَ ࣖ ١١

qul
قُلْ
Say
yatawaffākum
يَتَوَفَّىٰكُم
"Will take your soul
malaku
مَّلَكُ
(the) Angel
l-mawti
ٱلْمَوْتِ
(of) the death
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
the one who
wukkila
وُكِّلَ
has been put in charge
bikum
بِكُمْ
of you
thumma
ثُمَّ
Then
ilā
إِلَىٰ
to
rabbikum
رَبِّكُمْ
your Lord
tur'jaʿūna
تُرْجَعُونَ
you will be returned"
Say, "The angel of death who has been entrusted with you will take you. Then to your Lord you will be returned." (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 11)
Tafsir
12

وَلَوْ تَرٰىٓ اِذِ الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ نَاكِسُوْا رُءُوْسِهِمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْۗ رَبَّنَآ اَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا فَارْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا اِنَّا مُوْقِنُوْنَ ١٢

walaw
وَلَوْ
And if
tarā
تَرَىٰٓ
you (could) see
idhi
إِذِ
when
l-muj'rimūna
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ
the criminals
nākisū
نَاكِسُوا۟
(will) hang
ruūsihim
رُءُوسِهِمْ
their heads
ʿinda
عِندَ
before
rabbihim
رَبِّهِمْ
their Lord
rabbanā
رَبَّنَآ
"Our Lord
abṣarnā
أَبْصَرْنَا
we have seen
wasamiʿ'nā
وَسَمِعْنَا
and we have heard
fa-ir'jiʿ'nā
فَٱرْجِعْنَا
so return us
naʿmal
نَعْمَلْ
we will do
ṣāliḥan
صَٰلِحًا
righteous (deeds)
innā
إِنَّا
Indeed we
mūqinūna
مُوقِنُونَ
(are now) certain"
If you could but see when the criminals are hanging their heads before their Lord, [saying], "Our Lord, we have seen and heard, so return us [to the world]; we will work righteousness. Indeed, we are [now] certain." (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 12)
Tafsir
13

وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَاٰتَيْنَا كُلَّ نَفْسٍ هُدٰىهَا وَلٰكِنْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ مِنِّيْ لَاَمْلَـَٔنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ اَجْمَعِيْنَ ١٣

walaw
وَلَوْ
And if
shi'nā
شِئْنَا
We (had) willed
laātaynā
لَءَاتَيْنَا
surely We (would) have given
kulla
كُلَّ
every
nafsin
نَفْسٍ
soul
hudāhā
هُدَىٰهَا
its guidance
walākin
وَلَٰكِنْ
but
ḥaqqa
حَقَّ
(is) true
l-qawlu
ٱلْقَوْلُ
the Word
minnī
مِنِّى
from Me
la-amla-anna
لَأَمْلَأَنَّ
that I will surely fill"
jahannama
جَهَنَّمَ
Hell
mina
مِنَ
with
l-jinati
ٱلْجِنَّةِ
the jinn
wal-nāsi
وَٱلنَّاسِ
and the men
ajmaʿīna
أَجْمَعِينَ
together
And if We had willed, We could have given every soul its guidance, but the word from Me will come into effect [that] "I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people all together. (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 13)
Tafsir
14

فَذُوْقُوْا بِمَا نَسِيْتُمْ لِقَاۤءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هٰذَاۚ اِنَّا نَسِيْنٰكُمْ وَذُوْقُوْا عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ ١٤

fadhūqū
فَذُوقُوا۟
So taste
bimā
بِمَا
because
nasītum
نَسِيتُمْ
you forgot
liqāa
لِقَآءَ
(the) meeting
yawmikum
يَوْمِكُمْ
(of) this Day of yours
hādhā
هَٰذَآ
(of) this Day of yours
innā
إِنَّا
Indeed, We
nasīnākum
نَسِينَٰكُمْۖ
have forgotten you
wadhūqū
وَذُوقُوا۟
And taste
ʿadhāba
عَذَابَ
(the) punishment
l-khul'di
ٱلْخُلْدِ
(of) eternity
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you used (to)
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
do"
So taste [punishment] because you forgot the meeting of this, your Day; indeed, We have [accordingly] forgotten you. And taste the punishment of eternity for what you used to do." (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 14)
Tafsir
15

اِنَّمَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاٰيٰتِنَا الَّذِيْنَ اِذَا ذُكِّرُوْا بِهَا خَرُّوْا سُجَّدًا وَّسَبَّحُوْا بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُوْنَ ۩ ١٥

innamā
إِنَّمَا
Only
yu'minu
يُؤْمِنُ
believe
biāyātinā
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
in Our Verses
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
idhā
إِذَا
when
dhukkirū
ذُكِّرُوا۟
they are reminded
bihā
بِهَا
of them
kharrū
خَرُّوا۟
fall down
sujjadan
سُجَّدًا
prostrating
wasabbaḥū
وَسَبَّحُوا۟
and glorify
biḥamdi
بِحَمْدِ
(the) praises
rabbihim
رَبِّهِمْ
(of) their Lord
wahum
وَهُمْ
and they
لَا
are not arrogant
yastakbirūna
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ۩
are not arrogant
Only those believe in Our verses who, when they are reminded by them, fall down in prostration and exalt [Allah] with praise of their Lord, and they are not arrogant. (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 15)
Tafsir
16

تَتَجَافٰى جُنُوْبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ يَدْعُوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفًا وَّطَمَعًاۖ وَّمِمَّا رَزَقْنٰهُمْ يُنْفِقُوْنَ ١٦

tatajāfā
تَتَجَافَىٰ
Forsake
junūbuhum
جُنُوبُهُمْ
their sides
ʿani
عَنِ
from
l-maḍājiʿi
ٱلْمَضَاجِعِ
(their) beds;
yadʿūna
يَدْعُونَ
they call
rabbahum
رَبَّهُمْ
their Lord
khawfan
خَوْفًا
(in) fear
waṭamaʿan
وَطَمَعًا
and hope
wamimmā
وَمِمَّا
and out of what
razaqnāhum
رَزَقْنَٰهُمْ
We have provided them
yunfiqūna
يُنفِقُونَ
they spend
Their sides part [i.e., they arise] from [their] beds; they supplicate their Lord in fear and aspiration, and from what We have provided them, they spend. (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 16)
Tafsir
17

فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَّآ اُخْفِيَ لَهُمْ مِّنْ قُرَّةِ اَعْيُنٍۚ جَزَاۤءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ١٧

falā
فَلَا
And not
taʿlamu
تَعْلَمُ
knows
nafsun
نَفْسٌ
a soul
مَّآ
what
ukh'fiya
أُخْفِىَ
is hidden
lahum
لَهُم
for them
min
مِّن
of
qurrati
قُرَّةِ
(the) comfort
aʿyunin
أَعْيُنٍ
(for) the eyes
jazāan
جَزَآءًۢ
(as) a reward
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used (to)
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
do
And no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes [i.e., satisfaction] as reward for what they used to do. (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 17)
Tafsir
18

اَفَمَنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا كَمَنْ كَانَ فَاسِقًاۗ لَا يَسْتَوٗنَ ١٨

afaman
أَفَمَن
Then is one who
kāna
كَانَ
is
mu'minan
مُؤْمِنًا
a believer
kaman
كَمَن
like (him) who
kāna
كَانَ
is
fāsiqan
فَاسِقًاۚ
defiantly disobedient?
لَّا
Not
yastawūna
يَسْتَوُۥنَ
they are equal
Then is one who was a believer like one who was defiantly disobedient? They are not equal. (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 18)
Tafsir
19

اَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ فَلَهُمْ جَنّٰتُ الْمَأْوٰىۖ نُزُلًا ۢبِمَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ١٩

ammā
أَمَّا
As for
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe
waʿamilū
وَعَمِلُوا۟
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
righteous deeds
falahum
فَلَهُمْ
then for them
jannātu
جَنَّٰتُ
(are) Gardens
l-mawā
ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
(of) Refuge
nuzulan
نُزُلًۢا
(as) hospitality
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used (to)
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
do
As for those who believed and did righteous deeds, for them will be the Gardens of Refuge as accommodation for what they used to do. (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 19)
Tafsir
20

وَاَمَّا الَّذِيْنَ فَسَقُوْا فَمَأْوٰىهُمُ النَّارُ كُلَّمَآ اَرَادُوْٓا اَنْ يَّخْرُجُوْا مِنْهَآ اُعِيْدُوْا فِيْهَا وَقِيْلَ لَهُمْ ذُوْقُوْا عَذَابَ النَّارِ الَّذِيْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَ ٢٠

wa-ammā
وَأَمَّا
But as for
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
fasaqū
فَسَقُوا۟
are defiantly disobedient
famawāhumu
فَمَأْوَىٰهُمُ
then their refuge
l-nāru
ٱلنَّارُۖ
(is) the Fire
kullamā
كُلَّمَآ
Every time
arādū
أَرَادُوٓا۟
they wish
an
أَن
to
yakhrujū
يَخْرُجُوا۟
come out
min'hā
مِنْهَآ
from it
uʿīdū
أُعِيدُوا۟
they (will) be returned
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
waqīla
وَقِيلَ
and it (will) be said
lahum
لَهُمْ
to them
dhūqū
ذُوقُوا۟
"Taste
ʿadhāba
عَذَابَ
(the) punishment
l-nāri
ٱلنَّارِ
(of) the Fire
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
which
kuntum
كُنتُم
you used (to)
bihi
بِهِۦ
[in it]
tukadhibūna
تُكَذِّبُونَ
deny"
But as for those who defiantly disobeyed, their refuge is the Fire. Every time they wish to emerge from it, they will be returned to it while it is said to them, "Taste the punishment of the Fire which you used to deny." (QS. [32] As-Sajdah: 20)
