Luqman [31]: 22 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

۞ وَمَنْ يُّسْلِمْ وَجْهَهٗٓ اِلَى اللّٰهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقٰىۗ وَاِلَى اللّٰهِ عَاقِبَةُ الْاُمُوْرِ (لقمان : ٣١)

waman
وَمَن
And whoever

يُسْلِمْ
submits
wajhahu
وَجْهَهُۥٓ
his face
ilā
إِلَى
to
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
while he
muḥ'sinun
مُحْسِنٌ
(is) a good- doer
faqadi
فَقَدِ
then indeed
is'tamsaka
ٱسْتَمْسَكَ
he has grasped
bil-ʿur'wati
بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ
the handhold
l-wuth'qā
ٱلْوُثْقَىٰۗ
the most trustworthy
wa-ilā
وَإِلَى
And to
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
ʿāqibatu
عَٰقِبَةُ
(is the) end
l-umūri
ٱلْأُمُورِ
(of) the matters

Transliteration:

Wa many yuslim wajha hooo ilal laahi wa huwa muhsinun faqadistamsaka bil'ur watil wusqaa; wa ilal laahi 'aaqibatul umoor (QS. Luq̈mān:22)

English / Sahih Translation:

And whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allah while he is a doer of good – then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters. (QS. Luqman, ayah 22)

And whoever submits his self to Allah and is good in deeds, he in fact holds on to the strongest ring. Towards Allah is the ultimate end of all matters.

Whoever surrenders himself to Allah and lives righteously grasps the most firm handle. The ultimate decision of all matters rests with Allah.

He who turns his face to God in submission and does good, holds fast to a handle that is strong; for the resultance of things rests with God.

Whoever surrenders his heart to Allah and is virtuous, has certainly held fast to the firmest handle, and with Allah lies the outcome of all matters.

(The truth is that) whoever submits his whole being to God and is devoted to doing good, aware that God is seeing him, he has indeed taken hold of the firm, unbreakable handle. With God rests the outcome for all matters.

And he who resigns himself wholly and solely to the will of Allâh and is a doer of good to others has indeed a hold on a support, firm and strong. And the end of all matters rests with Allâh (Who causes their results).

English Literal

And who submits/surrenders his face/front/direction to God, and He is (a) good doer, so (he) had held fast/grasped with the tie/handle the tight/affirmed, and to God (are) the matter`s/affair`s end/turn (result).

Whoever submits his face to Allah and is righteous – so he has indeed grasped the firm knot; and towards Allah only is the culmination of all things.

And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has sent down;" they say, "Nay! We will follow wherein we found our fathers." - What! Even if Satan calls them to the torment of the blaze?

And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allah [i.e. (follows Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism), worships Allah (Alone) with sincere Faith in the (1) Oneness of His Lordship, (2) Oneness of His worship, and (3) Oneness of His Names and Qualities], while he is a Muhsin (good-doer i.e. performs good deeds totally for Allah's sake without any show-off or to gain praise or fame etc. and does them in accordance with the Sunnah of Allah's Messenger Muhammad SAW), then he has grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)]. And to Allah return all matters for decision.

See you not that Allah has made subservient to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and granted to you His favours complete outwardly and inwardly? And among men is he who disputes concerning Allah without knowledge or guidance or a Book giving light.

And whoever submits himself wholly to Allah and he is the doer of good (to others), he indeed has taken hold of the firmest thing upon which one can lay hold; and Allah's is the end of affairs.

And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allah, while he is a Muhsin, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah return all matters for decision.

He who submits himself completely to God, and is a doer of good, has surely grasped a strong handle, for the final outcome of all events rests with God.

Whoever submits himself wholly to God, and is a doer of good, has grasped the most trustworthy handle. With God rests the outcome of all events.

Tafsir jalalayn

And whoever surrenders his purpose to God, that is, [whoever] takes to obeying Him, and is virtuous, a believer in [His] Oneness, has certainly grasped the firmest handle, the stronger end, which is not in danger of being severed, and to God belongs the sequel of all matters, their [ultimate] return.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah says;

وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ

And whosoever submits his face (himself) to Allah,

Allah tells us that whoever submits his face to Allah, i.e., does deeds sincerely for His sake, submits to His commandments and follows His Laws,

وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ

while he is a Muhsin,

i.e., doing what his Lord has commanded and abstaining from what He has forbidden,

فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَى

then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold.

means, he has received a firm promise from Allah that He will not punish him.

وَإِلَى اللَّهِ عَاقِبَةُ الاْإُمُورِ



And to Allah return all matters for decision
