Al-Qur'an Surah Ar-Rum Verse 51

Ar-Rum [30]: 51 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلَىِٕنْ اَرْسَلْنَا رِيْحًا فَرَاَوْهُ مُصْفَرًّا لَّظَلُّوْا مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ يَكْفُرُوْنَ (الروم : ٣٠)

wala-in
وَلَئِنْ
But if
arsalnā
أَرْسَلْنَا
We sent
rīḥan
رِيحًا
a wind
fara-awhu
فَرَأَوْهُ
and they see it
muṣ'farran
مُصْفَرًّا
turn yellow
laẓallū
لَّظَلُّوا۟
certainly they continue
min
مِنۢ
after it
baʿdihi
بَعْدِهِۦ
after it
yakfurūna
يَكْفُرُونَ
(in) disbelief

Transliteration:

Wa la'in arsalnaa reehan fara awhu musfarral lazalloo mim ba'dihee yakfuroon (QS. ar-Rūm:51)

English / Sahih Translation:

But if We should send a [bad] wind and they saw [their crops] turned yellow, they would remain thereafter disbelievers. (QS. Ar-Rum, ayah 51)

Should We send a (harmful) wind, and they see it (the tillage) turning yellow, then they will turn ungrateful, even after all the aforesaid (bounties of Allah).

Then if We send a ˹harsh˺ wind which they see withering ˹their˺ crops, they will definitely deny ˹old favours˺ right after.

But if We were to send a wind and then their tilth has become yellow, they would never cease to disbelieve.

If We send a (blighting) wind and they see (the earth) seared autumnal, they would surely become ungrateful.

And if We send a wind and they see their fields yellow because of it, then indeed they would become ungrateful after it.

But if We send forth a scorching wind (against their land) and they see it (being dust-laden) as yellow, they begin, straight after that (joy), to show disbelieving ingratitude (as if God were obliged to always treat them with mercy and it were not God Who provides for them).

And if We send (another kind of blasting) wind and they see it turn yellow (for its having taken the form of punishment) they will even after that continue to disbelieve (for their being engrossed in evil doings).

English Literal

And if (E) We sent a wind/breeze so they saw it yellow/yellowish, they would have continued/remained from after it disbelieving.

Tafsir jalalayn

But if (wa-la-in, the lm is for oaths) We unleash a [different] wind, that damages vegetation, and they see it turn yellow, they would begin (la-zall is the response to the [conditional] oath) after that, that is, after its turning yellow, to disbelieve, to deny the grace of [having been given] rain.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And if We send a wind, and they see it turn yellow -- behold, they then would become unthankful (disbelievers).

وَلَيِنْ أَرْسَلْنَا رِيحًا

And if We send a wind,

means, a wind which dries up the crops which they have tended and cultivated and which have matured, and they see them turn yellow, and start to rot, if this were to happen, they would become ungrateful, i.e., they would deny the previous blessings that they were given.

This is like the Ayah,

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ

Then tell Me about the seed that you sow in the ground. until;

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

Nay, but we are deprived! (56;63-67
