Al-Qur'an Surah Ar-Rum Verse 43

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Then set your face to the straight Faith before the arrival of a day that will never be repulsed by Allah. On that Day the people will be split apart.

So be steadfast in the Upright Faith ˹O Prophet˺, before the coming of a Day from Allah that cannot be averted. On that Day the people will be divided:

So pay your whole-hearted attention to (the cause of) the right and perfect faith before there comes from Allâh the day for which there will be no averting. On that day they (- the believers and disbelievers) shall split up (into different groups).

English Literal

So keep up your face/front/direction to the religion, the straight/valuable , from before that a day/time comes, (there is) no return to it from God, (on) that day they declare openly/separate .

So devote yourself to the upright religion, before there comes from God a Day that cannot be averted. On that Day, they will be shocked.

Tafsir jalalayn

So set your purpose for the upright religion, the religion of Islam, before there comes the inevitable day from God, namely, the Day of Resurrection. On that day they shall be sundered (yassadda`na; the original t' [yatasadda`na] has been assimilated with the sd), that is, they will be split [into separate groups] after the Reckoning [destined] for Paradise or the Fire.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

The Command to follow the Straight Path before the Day of Resurrection

Here Allah commands His servants to hasten to obedience to Him and to hasten to do good deeds.

فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ الْقَيِّمِ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ يَوْمٌ لاَّ مَرَدَّ لَهُ مِنَ اللَّهِ

So, set you your face to the straight and right religion, before there comes from Allah a Day which none can avert.

The Day of Resurrection, for when Allah wants it to happen, no one will be able to avert it.

يَوْمَيِذٍ يَصَّدَّعُونَ



On that Day men shall be divided.

means, they will be separated, with one group in Paradise and another in Hell.

Allah says;

مَن كَفَرَ فَعَلَيْهِ كُفْرُهُ وَمَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَِنفُسِهِمْ يَمْهَدُونَ
