Al-Qur'an Surah Ar-Rum Verse 31

Ar-Rum [30]: 31 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

۞ مُنِيْبِيْنَ اِلَيْهِ وَاتَّقُوْهُ وَاَقِيْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَلَا تَكُوْنُوْا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَۙ (الروم : ٣٠)

the polytheists

Transliteration:

Muneebeena ilaihi wattaqoohu wa aqeemus Salaata wa laa takoonoo minal mushrikeen (QS. ar-Rūm:31)

English / Sahih Translation:

[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allah (QS. Ar-Rum, ayah 31)

(Set your face to the Faith) turning totally towards Him, and fear Him, and establish Salāh, and do not be among those who associate partners with Allah

˹O believers!˺ Always turn to Him ˹in repentance˺, be mindful of Him, and establish prayers. And do not be polytheists—

(Believers! you should all be attentive to Him) turning to Him (in repentance), and take Him as (your) shield (for protection) and observe Prayer and be not of those who associate partners (with Him) -

English Literal

Returning to God/repenting/obeying to Him, and fear and obey Him, and keep up/start the prayers, and do not be from the sharers/takers of partners (with God).

Inclining towards Him - and fear Him, and keep the prayer established, and never be of the polytheists.

Then set your purpose for religion as a man upright by nature - the nature made by Allah in which He has made men; there is no altering (the laws of) Allah´s creation; that is the right religion, but most people do not know -

(Always) Turning in repentance to Him (only), and be afraid and dutiful to Him; and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and be not of Al-Mushrikun (the disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, polytheists, idolaters, etc.).

Tafsir jalalayn

turning, referring, to Him, exalted be He, concerning what He has commanded and what He has forbidden (munbna, `turning' is a circumstantial qualifier referring to the subject [of the verb] aqim, `set up', in other words [addressing the third plural person] aqm, `set up') and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be among the idolaters,

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

مُنِيبِينَ إِلَيْهِ

turning in repentance to Him,

Ibn Zayd and Ibn Jurayj said,

"This means, returning to Him."

وَاتَّقُوهُ

and have Taqwa of Him;

means, fear Him and remember that He is always watching.

وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَأةَ

and perform the Salah,

which is the greatest act of worship.

وَلَا تَكُونُوا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ



and be not of the idolators.

Be of those who single out Allah, devoting their worship sincerely for Him alone, not anyone or anything other than Him.

Ibn Jarir recorded that Yazid bin Abi Maryam said;

"Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, passed by Mu`adh bin Jabal and asked, `What is the foundation of this Ummah?'

Mu`adh said, `Three things, and they are the things that will bring salvation;
Al-Ikhlas (doing a deed for Allah alone), which is the Fitrah with which Allah created mankind;
Salah, which is the thing that tells a believer apart from a disbeliever;

and obedience, which is protection.'

Umar said;`You have spoken the truth.
Splitting into Sects and the Saved Sect

His saying;

مِنَ الَّذِينَ فَرَّقُوا دِينَهُمْ وَكَانُوا شِيَعًا كُلُّ حِزْبٍ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ
