Al-Qur'an Surah Ar-Rum Verse 18

Ar-Rum [30]: 18 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَعَشِيًّا وَّحِيْنَ تُظْهِرُوْنَ (الروم : ٣٠)

walahu
وَلَهُ
And for Him
l-ḥamdu
ٱلْحَمْدُ
(are) all praises
فِى
in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the earth
waʿashiyyan
وَعَشِيًّا
and (at) night
waḥīna
وَحِينَ
and when
tuẓ'hirūna
تُظْهِرُونَ
you are at noon

Transliteration:

Wa lahul hamdu fis samaawaati wal ardi wa 'ashiyyanw wa heena tuzhiroon (QS. ar-Rūm:18)

English / Sahih Translation:

And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon. (QS. Ar-Rum, ayah 18)

And to Him be praise in the heavens and the earth, and in the afternoon and when you enter the time of àuhr (soon after the decline of the sun towards West).

Tafsir jalalayn

And to Him belongs [all] praise in the heavens and the earth -- a parenthetical statement, in other words, the inhabitants in both of these [realms] praise Him -- and as the sun declines (wa-`ashiyyan is a supplement to hna, `when' [of the previous verse]), in which comes the afternoon prayer (`asr), and when you enter noontime, in which comes the midday prayer (zuhr).

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالاَْرْضِ

And His is all the praise in the heavens and the earth;

meaning, He is the One who is to be praised for what He has created in the heavens and on earth.

Then Allah says;

وَعَشِيًّا وَحِينَ تُظْهِرُونَ



and in `Ashiyya and when Tuzhirun. --

the `Ashiyy is the time when the darkness is most intense, and Izhar is the brightest point of the day.

Glory be to the One Who created both of them, the Cleaver of the daybreak and the One Who makes night a time of rest.

Allah says;

وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّـهَا

وَالَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَـهَا

By the day as it shows up its brightness. By the night as it conceals it. (91;3-4)

وَالَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى

وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّى

By the night as it envelops. By the day as it appears in brightness. (92;1-2)

وَالضُّحَى

وَالَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَى

By the forenoon (after sunrise). By the night when it darkens. (93;1-2)
