(The Romans)

31

۞ مُنِيْبِيْنَ اِلَيْهِ وَاتَّقُوْهُ وَاَقِيْمُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَلَا تَكُوْنُوْا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَۙ ٣١

munībīna
مُنِيبِينَ
Turning
ilayhi
إِلَيْهِ
to Him
wa-ittaqūhu
وَٱتَّقُوهُ
and fear Him
wa-aqīmū
وَأَقِيمُوا۟
and establish
l-ṣalata
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
the prayer
walā
وَلَا
and (do) not
takūnū
تَكُونُوا۟
be
mina
مِنَ
of
l-mush'rikīna
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
the polytheists
[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allah (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 31)
Tafsir
32

مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ فَرَّقُوْا دِيْنَهُمْ وَكَانُوْا شِيَعًا ۗ كُلُّ حِزْبٍۢ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُوْنَ ٣٢

mina
مِنَ
Of
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
farraqū
فَرَّقُوا۟
divide
dīnahum
دِينَهُمْ
their religion
wakānū
وَكَانُوا۟
and become
shiyaʿan
شِيَعًاۖ
sects
kullu
كُلُّ
each
ḥiz'bin
حِزْبٍۭ
party
bimā
بِمَا
in what
ladayhim
لَدَيْهِمْ
they have
fariḥūna
فَرِحُونَ
rejoicing
[Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 32)
Tafsir
33

وَاِذَا مَسَّ النَّاسَ ضُرٌّ دَعَوْا رَبَّهُمْ مُّنِيْبِيْنَ اِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ اِذَآ اَذَاقَهُمْ مِّنْهُ رَحْمَةً اِذَا فَرِيْقٌ مِّنْهُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُوْنَۙ ٣٣

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when

مَسَّ
touches
l-nāsa
ٱلنَّاسَ
men
ḍurrun
ضُرٌّ
hardship
daʿaw
دَعَوْا۟
they call
rabbahum
رَبَّهُم
their Lord
munībīna
مُّنِيبِينَ
turning
ilayhi
إِلَيْهِ
to Him
thumma
ثُمَّ
Then
idhā
إِذَآ
when
adhāqahum
أَذَاقَهُم
He causes them to taste
min'hu
مِّنْهُ
from Him
raḥmatan
رَحْمَةً
Mercy
idhā
إِذَا
behold!
farīqun
فَرِيقٌ
A party
min'hum
مِّنْهُم
of them
birabbihim
بِرَبِّهِمْ
with their Lord
yush'rikūna
يُشْرِكُونَ
associate partners
And when adversity touches the people, they call upon their Lord, turning in repentance to Him. Then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, at once a party of them associate others with their Lord, (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 33)
Tafsir
34

لِيَكْفُرُوْا بِمَآ اٰتَيْنٰهُمْۗ فَتَمَتَّعُوْاۗ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُوْنَ ٣٤

liyakfurū
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟
So as to deny
bimā
بِمَآ
[in] what
ātaynāhum
ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْۚ
We have granted them
fatamattaʿū
فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟
Then enjoy
fasawfa
فَسَوْفَ
but soon
taʿlamūna
تَعْلَمُونَ
you will know
So that they will deny what We have granted them. Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 34)
Tafsir
35

اَمْ اَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطٰنًا فَهُوَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا كَانُوْا بِهٖ يُشْرِكُوْنَ ٣٥

am
أَمْ
Or
anzalnā
أَنزَلْنَا
have We sent
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
to them
sul'ṭānan
سُلْطَٰنًا
an authority
fahuwa
فَهُوَ
and it
yatakallamu
يَتَكَلَّمُ
speaks
bimā
بِمَا
of what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they were
bihi
بِهِۦ
with Him
yush'rikūna
يُشْرِكُونَ
associating?
Or have We sent down to them an authority [i.e., a proof or scripture], and it speaks of what they have been associating with Him? (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 35)
Tafsir
36

وَاِذَآ اَذَقْنَا النَّاسَ رَحْمَةً فَرِحُوْا بِهَاۗ وَاِنْ تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ ۢبِمَا قَدَّمَتْ اَيْدِيْهِمْ اِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُوْنَ ٣٦

wa-idhā
وَإِذَآ
And when
adhaqnā
أَذَقْنَا
We cause men to taste
l-nāsa
ٱلنَّاسَ
We cause men to taste
raḥmatan
رَحْمَةً
mercy
fariḥū
فَرِحُوا۟
they rejoice
bihā
بِهَاۖ
therein
wa-in
وَإِن
But if
tuṣib'hum
تُصِبْهُمْ
afflicts them
sayyi-atun
سَيِّئَةٌۢ
an evil
bimā
بِمَا
for what
qaddamat
قَدَّمَتْ
have sent forth
aydīhim
أَيْدِيهِمْ
their hands
idhā
إِذَا
behold!
hum
هُمْ
They
yaqnaṭūna
يَقْنَطُونَ
despair
And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 36)
Tafsir
37

اَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَّشَاۤءُ وَيَقْدِرُۗ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُّؤْمِنُوْنَ ٣٧

awalam
أَوَلَمْ
Do not
yaraw
يَرَوْا۟
they see
anna
أَنَّ
that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yabsuṭu
يَبْسُطُ
extends
l-riz'qa
ٱلرِّزْقَ
the provision
liman
لِمَن
for whom
yashāu
يَشَآءُ
He wills
wayaqdiru
وَيَقْدِرُۚ
and straitens (it)
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
فِى
in
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
laāyātin
لَءَايَٰتٍ
surely (are) Signs
liqawmin
لِّقَوْمٍ
for a people
yu'minūna
يُؤْمِنُونَ
who believe
Do they not see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 37)
Tafsir
38

فَاٰتِ ذَا الْقُرْبٰى حَقَّهٗ وَالْمِسْكِيْنَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيْلِۗ ذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِيْنَ يُرِيْدُوْنَ وَجْهَ اللّٰهِ ۖوَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُوْنَ ٣٨

faāti
فَـَٔاتِ
So give
dhā
ذَا
the relative
l-qur'bā
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ
the relative
ḥaqqahu
حَقَّهُۥ
his right
wal-mis'kīna
وَٱلْمِسْكِينَ
and the poor
wa-ib'na
وَٱبْنَ
and the wayfarer
l-sabīli
ٱلسَّبِيلِۚ
and the wayfarer
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
khayrun
خَيْرٌ
(is) best
lilladhīna
لِّلَّذِينَ
for those who
yurīdūna
يُرِيدُونَ
desire
wajha
وَجْهَ
(the) Countenance
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۖ
(of) Allah
wa-ulāika
وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
And those
humu
هُمُ
they
l-muf'liḥūna
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ
(are) the successful ones
So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler. That is best for those who desire the face [i.e., approval] of Allah, and it is they who will be the successful. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 38)
Tafsir
39

وَمَآ اٰتَيْتُمْ مِّنْ رِّبًا لِّيَرْبُوَا۠ فِيْٓ اَمْوَالِ النَّاسِ فَلَا يَرْبُوْا عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ ۚوَمَآ اٰتَيْتُمْ مِّنْ زَكٰوةٍ تُرِيْدُوْنَ وَجْهَ اللّٰهِ فَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُضْعِفُوْنَ ٣٩

wamā
وَمَآ
And what
ātaytum
ءَاتَيْتُم
you give
min
مِّن
for
riban
رِّبًا
usury
liyarbuwā
لِّيَرْبُوَا۟
to increase
فِىٓ
in
amwāli
أَمْوَٰلِ
(the) wealth
l-nāsi
ٱلنَّاسِ
(of) people
falā
فَلَا
not
yarbū
يَرْبُوا۟
(will) increase
ʿinda
عِندَ
with
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۖ
Allah
wamā
وَمَآ
But what
ātaytum
ءَاتَيْتُم
you give
min
مِّن
of
zakatin
زَكَوٰةٍ
zakah
turīdūna
تُرِيدُونَ
desiring
wajha
وَجْهَ
(the) Countenance
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
fa-ulāika
فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
then those
humu
هُمُ
[they]
l-muḍ'ʿifūna
ٱلْمُضْعِفُونَ
(will) get manifold
And whatever you give for interest [i.e., advantage] to increase within the wealth of people will not increase with Allah. But what you give in Zakah, desiring the face [i.e., approval] of Allah – those are the multipliers. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 39)
Tafsir
40

اَللّٰهُ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ رَزَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيْكُمْۗ هَلْ مِنْ شُرَكَاۤىِٕكُمْ مَّنْ يَّفْعَلُ مِنْ ذٰلِكُمْ مِّنْ شَيْءٍۗ سُبْحٰنَهٗ وَتَعٰلٰى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُوْنَ ࣖ ٤٠

al-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
(is) the One Who
khalaqakum
خَلَقَكُمْ
created you
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
razaqakum
رَزَقَكُمْ
He provided (for) you
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
yumītukum
يُمِيتُكُمْ
He will cause you to die
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
yuḥ'yīkum
يُحْيِيكُمْۖ
He will give you life
hal
هَلْ
Is (there)
min
مِن
any
shurakāikum
شُرَكَآئِكُم
(of) your partners
man
مَّن
who
yafʿalu
يَفْعَلُ
does
min
مِن
of
dhālikum
ذَٰلِكُم
that
min
مِّن
any
shayin
شَىْءٍۚ
thing?
sub'ḥānahu
سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ
Glory be to Him
wataʿālā
وَتَعَٰلَىٰ
and exalted is He
ʿammā
عَمَّا
above what
yush'rikūna
يُشْرِكُونَ
they associate
Allah is the one who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, and then will give you life. Are there any of your "partners" who does anything of that? Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 40)
