غُلِبَتِ الرُّوْمُۙ ٢

- Have been defeated

- the Romans
The Byzantines have been defeated (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 2)Tafsir
فِيْٓ اَدْنَى الْاَرْضِ وَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُوْنَۙ ٣
- fī
- فِىٓ
- In
- adnā
- أَدْنَى
- (the) nearest
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- land
- wahum
- وَهُم
- But they
- min
- مِّنۢ
- after
- baʿdi
- بَعْدِ
- after
- ghalabihim
- غَلَبِهِمْ
- their defeat
- sayaghlibūna
- سَيَغْلِبُونَ
- will overcome
In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 3)Tafsir
فِيْ بِضْعِ سِنِيْنَ ەۗ لِلّٰهِ الْاَمْرُ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْۢ بَعْدُ ۗوَيَوْمَىِٕذٍ يَّفْرَحُ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَۙ ٤
- fī
- فِى
- Within
- biḍ'ʿi
- بِضْعِ
- a few
- sinīna
- سِنِينَۗ
- years
- lillahi
- لِلَّهِ
- For Allah
- l-amru
- ٱلْأَمْرُ
- (is) the command
- min
- مِن
- before
- qablu
- قَبْلُ
- before
- wamin
- وَمِنۢ
- and after
- baʿdu
- بَعْدُۚ
- and after
- wayawma-idhin
- وَيَوْمَئِذٍ
- And that day
- yafraḥu
- يَفْرَحُ
- will rejoice
- l-mu'minūna
- ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
- the believers
Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command [i.e., decree] before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 4)Tafsir
بِنَصْرِ اللّٰهِ ۗيَنْصُرُ مَنْ يَّشَاۤءُۗ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيْزُ الرَّحِيْمُ ٥
- binaṣri
- بِنَصْرِ
- With (the) help
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۚ
- (of) Allah
- yanṣuru
- يَنصُرُ
- He helps
- man
- مَن
- whom
- yashāu
- يَشَآءُۖ
- He wills
- wahuwa
- وَهُوَ
- And He
- l-ʿazīzu
- ٱلْعَزِيزُ
- (is) the All-Mighty
- l-raḥīmu
- ٱلرَّحِيمُ
- the Most Merciful
In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 5)Tafsir
وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ ۗ لَا يُخْلِفُ اللّٰهُ وَعْدَهٗ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ٦
- waʿda
- وَعْدَ
- (It is the) Promise
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۖ
- (of) Allah
- lā
- لَا
- (Does) not
- yukh'lifu
- يُخْلِفُ
- fail
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- waʿdahu
- وَعْدَهُۥ
- (in) His promise
- walākinna
- وَلَٰكِنَّ
- but
- akthara
- أَكْثَرَ
- most (of)
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- [the] people
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- know
[It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 6)Tafsir
يَعْلَمُوْنَ ظَاهِرًا مِّنَ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَاۖ وَهُمْ عَنِ الْاٰخِرَةِ هُمْ غٰفِلُوْنَ ٧
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- They know
- ẓāhiran
- ظَٰهِرًا
- (the) apparent
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- l-ḥayati
- ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
- the life
- l-dun'yā
- ٱلدُّنْيَا
- (of) the world
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- but they
- ʿani
- عَنِ
- about
- l-ākhirati
- ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
- the Hereafter
- hum
- هُمْ
- [they]
- ghāfilūna
- غَٰفِلُونَ
- (are) heedless
They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 7)Tafsir
اَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُوْا فِيْٓ اَنْفُسِهِمْ ۗ مَا خَلَقَ اللّٰهُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ اِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَاَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّىۗ وَاِنَّ كَثِيْرًا مِّنَ النَّاسِ بِلِقَاۤئِ رَبِّهِمْ لَكٰفِرُوْنَ ٨
- awalam
- أَوَلَمْ
- Do not
- yatafakkarū
- يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟
- they ponder
- fī
- فِىٓ
- within
- anfusihim
- أَنفُسِهِمۗ
- themselves?
- mā
- مَّا
- Not
- khalaqa
- خَلَقَ
- Allah (has) created
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah (has) created
- l-samāwāti
- ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
- the heavens
- wal-arḍa
- وَٱلْأَرْضَ
- and the earth
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and what
- baynahumā
- بَيْنَهُمَآ
- (is) between them
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- bil-ḥaqi
- بِٱلْحَقِّ
- in truth
- wa-ajalin
- وَأَجَلٍ
- and (for) a term
- musamman
- مُّسَمًّىۗ
- appointed
- wa-inna
- وَإِنَّ
- And indeed
- kathīran
- كَثِيرًا
- many
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- the people
- biliqāi
- بِلِقَآئِ
- in (the) meeting
- rabbihim
- رَبِّهِمْ
- (with) their Lord
- lakāfirūna
- لَكَٰفِرُونَ
- surely (are) disbelievers
Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 8)Tafsir
اَوَلَمْ يَسِيْرُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوْا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْۗ كَانُوْٓا اَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَّاَثَارُوا الْاَرْضَ وَعَمَرُوْهَآ اَكْثَرَ مِمَّا عَمَرُوْهَا وَجَاۤءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِۗ فَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلٰكِنْ كَانُوْٓا اَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُوْنَۗ ٩

- Have not
- yasīrū
- يَسِيرُوا۟
- they traveled
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the earth
- fayanẓurū
- فَيَنظُرُوا۟
- and observed
- kayfa
- كَيْفَ
- how
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- ʿāqibatu
- عَٰقِبَةُ
- (the) end
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (of) those
- min
- مِن
- before them?
- qablihim
- قَبْلِهِمْۚ
- before them?
- kānū
- كَانُوٓا۟
- They were
- ashadda
- أَشَدَّ
- mightier
- min'hum
- مِنْهُمْ
- to them
- quwwatan
- قُوَّةً
- (in) strength
- wa-athārū
- وَأَثَارُوا۟
- and they dug
- l-arḍa
- ٱلْأَرْضَ
- the earth
- waʿamarūhā
- وَعَمَرُوهَآ
- and built (on) it
- akthara
- أَكْثَرَ
- more
- mimmā
- مِمَّا
- than what
- ʿamarūhā
- عَمَرُوهَا
- they have built (on) it
- wajāathum
- وَجَآءَتْهُمْ
- And came (to) them
- rusuluhum
- رُسُلُهُم
- their Messengers
- bil-bayināti
- بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِۖ
- with clear proofs
- famā
- فَمَا
- So not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- liyaẓlimahum
- لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ
- to wrong them
- walākin
- وَلَٰكِن
- but
- kānū
- كَانُوٓا۟
- they were
- anfusahum
- أَنفُسَهُمْ
- themselves
- yaẓlimūna
- يَظْلِمُونَ
- (doing) wrong
Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed [or excavated] the earth and built it up more than they [i.e., the Makkans] have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 9)Tafsir
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَاقِبَةَ الَّذِيْنَ اَسَاۤءُوا السُّوْۤاٰىٓ اَنْ كَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَكَانُوْا بِهَا يَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ ࣖ ١٠
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- Then
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- ʿāqibata
- عَٰقِبَةَ
- (the) end
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (of) those who
- asāū
- أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟
- did evil -
- l-sūā
- ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓ
- the evil
- an
- أَن
- because
- kadhabū
- كَذَّبُوا۟
- they denied
- biāyāti
- بِـَٔايَٰتِ
- (the) Signs
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- wakānū
- وَكَانُوا۟
- and were
- bihā
- بِهَا
- of them
- yastahziūna
- يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
- making mockery
Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. (QS. [30] Ar-Rum: 10)Tafsir
