Al-Qur'an Surah Ali 'Imran Verse 85

Ali 'Imran [3]: 85 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمَنْ يَّبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْاِسْلَامِ دِيْنًا فَلَنْ يُّقْبَلَ مِنْهُۚ وَهُوَ فِى الْاٰخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخٰسِرِيْنَ (آل عمران : ٣)

waman
وَمَن: And whoever

yabtaghi
يَبْتَغِ: seeks

ghayra
غَيْرَ: other than

l-is'lāmi
ٱلْإِسْلَٰمِ: [the] Islam

dīnan
دِينًا: (as) religion

falan
فَلَن: then never

yuq'bala
يُقْبَلَ: will be accepted

min'hu
مِنْهُ: from him

wahuwa
وَهُوَ: and he

fī
فِى: in

l-ākhirati
ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ: the Hereafter

mina
مِنَ: (will be) from

l-khāsirīna
ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ: the losers

Transliteration:

Wa mai yabtaghi ghairal Islaami deenan falany yuqbala minhu wa huwa fil Aakhirati minal khaasireen (QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:85)

English / Sahih Translation:

And whoever desires other than IsLam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers. (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 85)

Whoever seeks a faith other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

English Literal

And who desires/wishes other than the Islam/submission/surrender (as) a religion, so (it) will never/not be accepted from him, and he (is) in the end from the losers.

Tafsir jalalayn

The following was revealed regarding those who apostatized and became disbelievers; Whoever desires a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted from him and in the Hereafter he shall be among the losers, because he will end up in the Fire, made everlasting for him.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الاِسْلَمِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him,

whoever seeks other than what Allah has legislated, it will not be accepted from him.

وَهُوَ فِي الاخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.

As the Prophet said in an authentic Hadith,

مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلً لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرُنَا فَهُوَ رَد

Whoever commits an action that does not conform to our matter (religion) then it is rejected
