Ali 'Imran [3]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوْبَنَا بَعْدَ اِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً ۚاِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ (آل عمران : ٣)

Transliteration:

Rabbanaa laa tuzigh quloobanaa ba'da iz hadaitanaa wa hab lanaa mil ladunka rahmah; innaka antal Wahhaab (QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:8)

English / Sahih Translation:

[Who say], "Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower. (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 8)

“Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate from the right path after You have given us guidance, and bestow upon us mercy from Your own. Surely, You, and You alone, are the One who bestows in abundance.

Tafsir jalalayn

Our Lord, do not cause our hearts to deviate, do not cause them to incline away from the truth, in [their] desire to interpret it, such as is inappropriate for us -- as You caused the hearts of those [others] to deviate -- after You have guided us, [after] You have shown us the way to it; and give us mercy from You, as a strengthening; You are the Bestower.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا

Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us.

meaning, "Do not deviate our hearts from the guidance after You allowed them to acquire it. Do not make us like those who have wickedness in their hearts, those who follow the Mutashabih in the Qur'an. Rather, make us remain firmly on Your straight path and true religion."

وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ

And grant us from Ladunka,

meaning, from You,

رَحْمَةً

Mercy,

with which You make our hearts firm, and increase in our Faith and certainty,

إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ



Truly, You are the Bestower.

Ibn Abi Hatim and Ibn Jarir recorded that Umm Salamah said that the Prophet used to supplicate,

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِك

O You Who changes the hearts, make my heart firm on Your religion
