Al-Qur'an Surah Ali 'Imran Verse 50
Ali 'Imran [3]: 50 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ مِنَ التَّوْرٰىةِ وَلِاُحِلَّ لَكُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِيْ حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَجِئْتُكُمْ بِاٰيَةٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّكُمْۗ فَاتَّقُوا اللّٰهَ وَاَطِيْعُوْنِ (آل عمران : ٣)

- وَمُصَدِّقًا
- And confirming
- limā
- لِّمَا
- that which
- bayna
- بَيْنَ
- (was)
- yadayya
- يَدَىَّ
- before me
- mina
- مِنَ
- of
- l-tawrāti
- ٱلتَّوْرَىٰةِ
- the Taurat
- wali-uḥilla
- وَلِأُحِلَّ
- and so that I make lawful
- lakum
- لَكُم
- for you
- baʿḍa
- بَعْضَ
- some
- alladhī
- ٱلَّذِى
- (of) that which
- ḥurrima
- حُرِّمَ
- was forbidden
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُمْۚ
- to you
- waji'tukum
- وَجِئْتُكُم
- And I (have) come to you
- biāyatin
- بِـَٔايَةٍ
- with a sign
- min
- مِّن
- from
- rabbikum
- رَّبِّكُمْ
- your Lord
- fa-ittaqū
- فَٱتَّقُوا۟
- So fear
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- wa-aṭīʿūni
- وَأَطِيعُونِ
- and obey me
Transliteration:
Wa musaddiqal limaa baina yadaiya minat Tawraati wa liuhilla lakum ba'dal lazee hurrima 'alaikum; wa ji'tukum bi Aayatim mir Rabbikum fattaqul laaha wa atee'oon(QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:50)
English / Sahih Translation:
And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me. (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 50)

(I have come to you) confirming that (book) which is (sent down) prior to me, that is, the Torah, and to make permissible for you some of what was prohibited to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. So, fear Allah and obey me.

And confirming to what (is) between my hands from the Torah and to permit/allow for you some (of) what was forbidden on you, and I came to you with a sign/evidence from your Lord, so fear and obey God and obey me.36

And (make him) a messenger to the Children of Israel (saying): I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I determine for you out of dust the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird with Allah’s permission, and I heal the blind and the leprous, and bring the dead to life with Allah’s permission; and I inform you of what you should eat and what you should store in your houses. Surely there is a sign in this for you, if you are believers.

Tafsir jalalayn
Likewise, I have come to you, confirming that which was before me of the Torah, and to make lawful for you some of that which was forbidden to you, in it. Thus he made lawful for them fish and birds which had no spikes; it is also said that he made it all lawful for them, so that ba`d, `some', means, kull, `all'). I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, He has repeated it for emphasis and to expand upon it; so fear God, and obey me, in what I command you of affirming God's Oneness and being obedient to Him.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَمُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ مِنَ التَّوْرَاةِ
If you believe. And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Tawrah,
affirming the Tawrah and upholding it,
وَلاُِحِلَّ لَكُم بَعْضَ الَّذِي حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ
and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you.
This part of the Ayah indicates that `Isa abrogated some of the Laws of the Tawrah and informed the Jews of the truth regarding some issues that they used to dispute about.
In another Ayah;
وَلاُبَيِّنَ لَكُم بَعْضَ الَّذِى تَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ
And in order to make clear to you some of the (points) in which you differ. (43;63)
`Isa said next,
وَجِيْتُكُم بِأيَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ
And I have come to you with a proof from your Lord.
"Containing affirmation and evidence to the truth of what I am conveying to you."
فَاتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
