Ali 'Imran [3]: 43 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

يٰمَرْيَمُ اقْنُتِيْ لِرَبِّكِ وَاسْجُدِيْ وَارْكَعِيْ مَعَ الرَّاكِعِيْنَ (آل عمران : ٣)

yāmaryamu
يَٰمَرْيَمُ
"O Maryam!
uq'nutī
ٱقْنُتِى
Be obedient
lirabbiki
لِرَبِّكِ
to your Lord
wa-us'judī
وَٱسْجُدِى
and prostrate
wa-ir'kaʿī
وَٱرْكَعِى
and bow down
maʿa
مَعَ
with
l-rākiʿīna
ٱلرَّٰكِعِينَ
those who bow down"

Transliteration:

Yaa Maryamuq nutee li Rabbiki wasjudee warka'ee ma'ar raaki'een (QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:43)

English / Sahih Translation:

O Mary, be devoutly obedient to your Lord and prostrate and bow with those who bow [in prayer]." (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 43)

O Maryam, stand in devotion to your Lord and prostrate yourself and bow down in Rukū‘ with those who bow.”

Tafsir jalalayn

O Mary, be obedient to your Lord, be compliant before Him, prostrating and bowing with those who bow', that is, pray with those who pray.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

"O Maryam! Submit yourself with obedience (Aqnuti) and prostrate yourself, and bow down along with Ar-Raki`in."

As for Qunut (Aqnuti in the Ayah),

it means to submit with humbleness.

In another Ayah, Allah said,

بَل لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَـوَتِ وَالاٌّرْضِ كُلٌّ لَّهُ قَـنِتُونَ

Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth, and all surrender with obedience (Qanitun) to Him. (2;116)

Allah next said to His Messenger after He mentioned Maryam's story
