Ali 'Imran [3]: 38 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهٗ ۚ قَالَ رَبِّ هَبْ لِيْ مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۚ اِنَّكَ سَمِيْعُ الدُّعَاۤءِ (آل عمران : ٣)

Transliteration:
Hunaaalika da'aa Zakariyyaa Rabbahoo qaala Rabbi hab lee mil ladunka zurriyyatan taiyibatan innaka samee'ud du'aaa'(QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:38)
English / Sahih Translation:
At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication." (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 38)

Thereupon, Zakariyyā prayed to his Lord. He said: “O my Lord, grant me from Your own (power) a goodly progeny. Verily, You are the One who listens to the prayer.”

English Literal
At that place and time Zachary called his Lord, he said: "My Lord grant/present for me, from at you good descendants, that you are hearing/listening (to) the call/request/prayer."

Surely Allah gives to whom He pleases without measure.

Thereupon Zechariah prayed to his Lord; he said, “My Lord, bestow on me good offspring from Your presence; You are the Hearer of Prayers.”
Tafsir jalalayn
Then, when Zachariah had seen this and realised that the One with power to bring something about in other than its [natural] time, is able to bring about a child in old age, and with those of his family line all deceased, Zachariah prayed to his Lord, when he entered the sanctuary to pray in the middle of the night, saying, `Lord, bestow upon me from You a goodly offspring, a righteous son, verily, You are the Hearer of, [You are] the One Who answers, supplication'.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
The Supplication of Zakariyya, and the Good News of Yahya's Birth
Allah tells;
هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهُ قَالَ
At that time Zakariyya invoked his Lord, saying;
When Zakariyya saw that Allah provided sustenance for Maryam by giving her the fruits of winter in summer and the fruits of summer in winter, he was eager to have a child of his own.
By then, Zakariyya had become an old man, his bones feeble and his head full of gray hair. His wife was an old women who was barren. Yet, he still supplicated to Allah and called Him in secret,
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِن لَّدُنْكَ
O my Lord! Grant me from Ladunka, (from You),
ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً
A good offspring,
meaning, a righteous offspring,
إِنَّكَ سَمِيعُ الدُّعَاء
You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation.
Allah said
