Ali 'Imran [3]: 147 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمَا كَانَ قَوْلَهُمْ اِلَّآ اَنْ قَالُوْا رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوْبَنَا وَاِسْرَافَنَا فِيْٓ اَمْرِنَا وَثَبِّتْ اَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ (آل عمران : ٣)

"Our Lord

وَإِسْرَافَنَا
and our excesses
فِىٓ
in
amrinā
أَمْرِنَا
our affairs
wathabbit
وَثَبِّتْ
and make firm
aqdāmanā
أَقْدَامَنَا
our feet
wa-unṣur'nā
وَٱنصُرْنَا
and give us victory
ʿalā
عَلَى
against
l-qawmi
ٱلْقَوْمِ
[the people]
l-kāfirīna
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
the disbelievers"

Transliteration:

Wa maa kaana qawlahum illaa an qaaloo Rabbanagh fir lanaa zunoobanaa wa israafanaa feee amirnaa wa sabbit aqdaamanaa wansurnaa 'alal qawmil kaafireen (QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:147)

English / Sahih Translation:

And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people." (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 147)

They had nothing else to say except that they said: “Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses in our conduct, make firm our feet and help us against the disbelieving people.”

And their saying was not, except that they said: "Our Lord, forgive for us our crimes and our spoilage/wastefulness in our matter/affair, and affix/make our feet firm, and give us victory/aid over the nation, the disbelieving."

All that they said, when their prophet had been killed while they stood their ground and were steadfast, was, `Our Lord, forgive us our sins and our excesses, our overstepping the bounds, in our affairs, a declaration of the fact that what had befallen them was the result of their evil actions and a humbling of their selves, and make firm our feet, with strength for the struggle, and help us against the unbelieving folk'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And Allah loves the patient.

And they said nothing but;"Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and our transgressions, establish our feet firmly, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk."

and this was the statement that they kept repeating.
