111

لَنْ يَّضُرُّوْكُمْ اِلَّآ اَذًىۗ وَاِنْ يُّقَاتِلُوْكُمْ يُوَلُّوْكُمُ الْاَدْبَارَۗ ثُمَّ لَا يُنْصَرُوْنَ ١١١

lan
لَن
Never
yaḍurrūkum
يَضُرُّوكُمْ
will they harm you
illā
إِلَّآ
except
adhan
أَذًىۖ
a hurt
wa-in
وَإِن
And if
yuqātilūkum
يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ
they fight you
yuwallūkumu
يُوَلُّوكُمُ
they will turn (towards) you
l-adbāra
ٱلْأَدْبَارَ
the backs
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
لَا
not
yunṣarūna
يُنصَرُونَ
they will be helped
They will not harm you except for [some] annoyance. And if they fight you, they will show you their backs [i.e., retreat]; then they will not be aided. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 111)
Tafsir
112

ضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ اَيْنَ مَا ثُقِفُوْٓا اِلَّا بِحَبْلٍ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَحَبْلٍ مِّنَ النَّاسِ وَبَاۤءُوْ بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَسْكَنَةُ ۗ ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا يَكْفُرُوْنَ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ وَيَقْتُلُوْنَ الْاَنْبِۢيَاۤءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّۗ ذٰلِكَ بِمَا عَصَوْا وَّكَانُوْا يَعْتَدُوْنَ ١١٢

ḍuribat
ضُرِبَتْ
Struck
ʿalayhimu
عَلَيْهِمُ
on them
l-dhilatu
ٱلذِّلَّةُ
the humiliation
ayna
أَيْنَ
wherever
مَا
that
thuqifū
ثُقِفُوٓا۟
they are found
illā
إِلَّا
except
biḥablin
بِحَبْلٍ
with a rope
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
waḥablin
وَحَبْلٍ
and a rope
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-nāsi
ٱلنَّاسِ
the people
wabāū
وَبَآءُو
And they incurred
bighaḍabin
بِغَضَبٍ
wrath
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
waḍuribat
وَضُرِبَتْ
and struck
ʿalayhimu
عَلَيْهِمُ
on them
l-maskanatu
ٱلْمَسْكَنَةُۚ
the poverty
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
bi-annahum
بِأَنَّهُمْ
(is) because
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used to
yakfurūna
يَكْفُرُونَ
disbelieve
biāyāti
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
in (the) Verses
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
wayaqtulūna
وَيَقْتُلُونَ
and they killed
l-anbiyāa
ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ
the Prophets
bighayri
بِغَيْرِ
without
ḥaqqin
حَقٍّۚ
right
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
bimā
بِمَا
(is) because
ʿaṣaw
عَصَوا۟
they disobeyed
wakānū
وَّكَانُوا۟
and they used to
yaʿtadūna
يَعْتَدُونَ
transgress
They have been put under humiliation [by Allah] wherever they are overtaken, except for a rope [i.e., covenant] from Allah and a rope [i.e., treaty] from the people [i.e., the Muslims]. And they have drawn upon themselves anger from Allah and have been put under destitution. That is because they disbelieved in [i.e., rejected] the verses of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That is because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 112)

113

۞ لَيْسُوْا سَوَاۤءً ۗ مِنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ اُمَّةٌ قَاۤىِٕمَةٌ يَّتْلُوْنَ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ اٰنَاۤءَ الَّيْلِ وَهُمْ يَسْجُدُوْنَ ١١٣

لَيْسُوا۟
They are not
sawāan
سَوَآءًۗ
(the) same
min
مِّنْ
among
ahli
أَهْلِ
(the) People
l-kitābi
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
(of) the Book
ummatun
أُمَّةٌ
(is) a community
qāimatun
قَآئِمَةٌ
standing
yatlūna
يَتْلُونَ
(and) reciting
āyāti
ءَايَٰتِ
(the) Verses
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ānāa
ءَانَآءَ
(in the) hours
al-layli
ٱلَّيْلِ
(of) the night
wahum
وَهُمْ
and they
yasjudūna
يَسْجُدُونَ
prostrate
They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allah during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer]. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 113)
Tafsir
114

يُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ وَيَأْمُرُوْنَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَيُسَارِعُوْنَ فِى الْخَيْرٰتِۗ وَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيْنَ ١١٤

yu'minūna
يُؤْمِنُونَ
They believe
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
wal-yawmi
وَٱلْيَوْمِ
and the Day
l-ākhiri
ٱلْءَاخِرِ
the Last
wayamurūna
وَيَأْمُرُونَ
and they enjoin
bil-maʿrūfi
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ
[with] the right
wayanhawna
وَيَنْهَوْنَ
and forbid
ʿani
عَنِ
[from]
l-munkari
ٱلْمُنكَرِ
the wrong
wayusāriʿūna
وَيُسَٰرِعُونَ
and they hasten
فِى
in
l-khayrāti
ٱلْخَيْرَٰتِ
the good deeds
wa-ulāika
وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
And those
mina
مِنَ
(are) from
l-ṣāliḥīna
ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
the righteous
They believe in Allah and the Last Day, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and hasten to good deeds. And those are among the righteous. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 114)
Tafsir
115

وَمَا يَفْعَلُوْا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلَنْ يُّكْفَرُوْهُ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ ۢبِالْمُتَّقِيْنَ ١١٥

wamā
وَمَا
And whatever
yafʿalū
يَفْعَلُوا۟
they do
min
مِنْ
of
khayrin
خَيْرٍ
a good
falan
فَلَن
then never
yuk'farūhu
يُكْفَرُوهُۗ
will they be denied it
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌۢ
(is) All-Knowing
bil-mutaqīna
بِٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
of the God-fearing
And whatever good they do – never will it be denied them. And Allah is Knowing of the righteous. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 115)
Tafsir
116

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لَنْ تُغْنِيَ عَنْهُمْ اَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَآ اَوْلَادُهُمْ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ شَيْـًٔا ۗ وَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ اَصْحٰبُ النَّارِ ۚ هُمْ فِيْهَا خٰلِدُوْنَ ١١٦

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
lan
لَن
never
tugh'niya
تُغْنِىَ
will avail
ʿanhum
عَنْهُمْ
[for] them
amwāluhum
أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ
their wealth
walā
وَلَآ
and not
awlāduhum
أَوْلَٰدُهُم
their children
mina
مِّنَ
against
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
shayan
شَيْـًٔاۖ
anything
wa-ulāika
وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
and those
aṣḥābu
أَصْحَٰبُ
(are the) companions
l-nāri
ٱلنَّارِۚ
(of) the Fire
hum
هُمْ
they
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
khālidūna
خَٰلِدُونَ
(will) abide forever
Indeed, those who disbelieve – never will their wealth or their children avail them against Allah at all, and those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 116)
Tafsir
117

مَثَلُ مَا يُنْفِقُوْنَ فِيْ هٰذِهِ الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا كَمَثَلِ رِيْحٍ فِيْهَا صِرٌّ اَصَابَتْ حَرْثَ قَوْمٍ ظَلَمُوْٓا اَنْفُسَهُمْ فَاَهْلَكَتْهُ ۗ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَلٰكِنْ اَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُوْنَ ١١٧

Example
مَا
(of) what
yunfiqūna
يُنفِقُونَ
they spend
فِى
in
hādhihi
هَٰذِهِ
this
l-ḥayati
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
[the] life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
kamathali
كَمَثَلِ
(is) like (the) example
rīḥin
رِيحٍ
(of) a wind
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
ṣirrun
صِرٌّ
(is) frost
aṣābat
أَصَابَتْ
it struck
ḥartha
حَرْثَ
(the) harvest
qawmin
قَوْمٍ
(of) a people
ẓalamū
ظَلَمُوٓا۟
who wronged
anfusahum
أَنفُسَهُمْ
themselves
fa-ahlakathu
فَأَهْلَكَتْهُۚ
then destroyed it
wamā
وَمَا
And not
ẓalamahumu
ظَلَمَهُمُ
(has) wronged them
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
walākin
وَلَٰكِنْ
[and] but
anfusahum
أَنفُسَهُمْ
themselves
yaẓlimūna
يَظْلِمُونَ
they wronged
The example of what they spend in this worldly life is like that of a wind containing frost which strikes the harvest of a people who have wronged themselves [i.e., sinned] and destroys it. And Allah has not wronged them, but they wrong themselves. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 117)
Tafsir
118

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَتَّخِذُوْا بِطَانَةً مِّنْ دُوْنِكُمْ لَا يَأْلُوْنَكُمْ خَبَالًاۗ وَدُّوْا مَا عَنِتُّمْۚ قَدْ بَدَتِ الْبَغْضَاۤءُ مِنْ اَفْوَاهِهِمْۖ وَمَا تُخْفِيْ صُدُوْرُهُمْ اَكْبَرُ ۗ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ الْاٰيٰتِ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْقِلُوْنَ ١١٨

yāayyuhā
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe[d]!
لَا
(Do) not
tattakhidhū
تَتَّخِذُوا۟
take
biṭānatan
بِطَانَةً
(as) intimates
min
مِّن
from
dūnikum
دُونِكُمْ
other than yourselves
لَا
not
yalūnakum
يَأْلُونَكُمْ
they will spare you
khabālan
خَبَالًا
(any) ruin
waddū
وَدُّوا۟
They wish
مَا
what
ʿanittum
عَنِتُّمْ
distresses you
qad
قَدْ
Indeed
badati
بَدَتِ
(has become) apparent
l-baghḍāu
ٱلْبَغْضَآءُ
the hatred
min
مِنْ
from
afwāhihim
أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ
their mouths
wamā
وَمَا
and what
tukh'fī
تُخْفِى
conceals
ṣudūruhum
صُدُورُهُمْ
their breasts
akbaru
أَكْبَرُۚ
(is) greater
qad
قَدْ
Certainly
bayyannā
بَيَّنَّا
We made clear
lakumu
لَكُمُ
for you
l-āyāti
ٱلْءَايَٰتِۖ
the Verses
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you were
taʿqilūna
تَعْقِلُونَ
(to use) reason
O you who have believed, do not take as intimates those other than yourselves [i.e., believers], for they will not spare you [any] ruin. They wish you would have hardship. Hatred has already appeared from their mouths, and what their breasts conceal is greater. We have certainly made clear to you the signs, if you will use reason. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 118)

119

هٰٓاَنْتُمْ اُولَاۤءِ تُحِبُّوْنَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِبُّوْنَكُمْ وَتُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِالْكِتٰبِ كُلِّهٖۚ وَاِذَا لَقُوْكُمْ قَالُوْٓا اٰمَنَّاۖ وَاِذَا خَلَوْا عَضُّوْا عَلَيْكُمُ الْاَنَامِلَ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ ۗ قُلْ مُوْتُوْا بِغَيْظِكُمْ ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلِيْمٌ ۢبِذَاتِ الصُّدُوْرِ ١١٩

hāantum
هَٰٓأَنتُمْ
Lo! You are
ulāi
أُو۟لَآءِ
those
tuḥibbūnahum
تُحِبُّونَهُمْ
you love them
walā
وَلَا
but not
yuḥibbūnakum
يُحِبُّونَكُمْ
they love you
watu'minūna
وَتُؤْمِنُونَ
and you believe
bil-kitābi
بِٱلْكِتَٰبِ
in the Book -
kullihi
كُلِّهِۦ
all of it
wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
laqūkum
لَقُوكُمْ
they meet you
qālū
قَالُوٓا۟
they say
āmannā
ءَامَنَّا
"We believe"
wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
khalaw
خَلَوْا۟
they are alone
ʿaḍḍū
عَضُّوا۟
they bite
ʿalaykumu
عَلَيْكُمُ
at you
l-anāmila
ٱلْأَنَامِلَ
the finger tips
mina
مِنَ
(out) of
l-ghayẓi
ٱلْغَيْظِۚ
[the] rage
qul
قُلْ
Say
mūtū
مُوتُوا۟
Die
bighayẓikum
بِغَيْظِكُمْۗ
in your rage
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌۢ
(is) All-Knowing
bidhāti
بِذَاتِ
of what
l-ṣudūri
ٱلصُّدُورِ
(is in) the breasts"
Here you are loving them but they are not loving you, while you believe in the Scripture – all of it. And when they meet you, they say, "We believe." But when they are alone, they bite their fingertips at you in rage. Say, "Die in your rage. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts." (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 119)

120

اِنْ تَمْسَسْكُمْ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤْهُمْۖ وَاِنْ تُصِبْكُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَّفْرَحُوْا بِهَا ۗ وَاِنْ تَصْبِرُوْا وَتَتَّقُوْا لَا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ مُحِيْطٌ ࣖ ١٢٠

in
إِن
If
tamsaskum
تَمْسَسْكُمْ
touches you
ḥasanatun
حَسَنَةٌ
a good
tasu'hum
تَسُؤْهُمْ
it grieves them
wa-in
وَإِن
and if
tuṣib'kum
تُصِبْكُمْ
strikes you
sayyi-atun
سَيِّئَةٌ
misfortune
yafraḥū
يَفْرَحُوا۟
they rejoice
bihā
بِهَاۖ
at it
wa-in
وَإِن
And if
taṣbirū
تَصْبِرُوا۟
you are patient
watattaqū
وَتَتَّقُوا۟
and fear (Allah)
لَا
not
yaḍurrukum
يَضُرُّكُمْ
will harm you
kayduhum
كَيْدُهُمْ
their plot
shayan
شَيْـًٔاۗ
(in) anything
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
bimā
بِمَا
of what
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
they do
muḥīṭun
مُحِيطٌ
(is) All-Encompassing
If good touches you, it distresses them; but if harm strikes you, they rejoice at it. And if you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allah is encompassing of what they do. (QS. [3] Ali 'Imran: 120)
