Al-Qur'an Surah Al-'Ankabut Verse 39
Al-'Ankabut [29]: 39 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَقَارُوْنَ وَفِرْعَوْنَ وَهَامٰنَۗ وَلَقَدْ جَاۤءَهُمْ مُّوْسٰى بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ وَمَا كَانُوْا سَابِقِيْنَ ۚ (العنكبوت : ٢٩)
- waqārūna
- وَقَٰرُونَ
- And Qarun
- wafir'ʿawna
- وَفِرْعَوْنَ
- and Firaun
- wahāmāna
- وَهَٰمَٰنَۖ
- and Haman
- walaqad
- وَلَقَدْ
- And certainly
- jāahum
- جَآءَهُم
- came to them
- mūsā
- مُّوسَىٰ
- Musa
- bil-bayināti
- بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
- with clear evidences
- fa-is'takbarū
- فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟
- but they were arrogant
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the earth
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟
- they could
- sābiqīna
- سَٰبِقِينَ
- outstrip Us
Transliteration:
Wa Qaaroona wa Fir'awna wa haamaana wa laqad jaaa'ahum Moosa bilbaiyinaati fastakbaroo fil ardi wa maa kaanoo saabiqeen(QS. al-ʿAnkabūt:39)
English / Sahih Translation:
And [We destroyed] Qarun and Pharaoh and Haman. And Moses had already come to them with clear evidences, and they were arrogant in the land, but they were not outrunners [of Our punishment]. (QS. Al-'Ankabut, ayah 39)

And Qaroon/Korah , and Pharaoh and Haman , and had come to them Moses with the evidences, so they became arrogant in the earth/Planet Earth, and they were not racing/surpassing/preceding.

And, We destroyed, Korah, and Pharaoh, and Hmn! And verily Moses brought them, beforehand, clear signs, manifest proofs, but they acted arrogantly in the land; and they could not thwart Us, they could not elude Our chastisement.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
And `Ad and Thamud! And indeed (their destruction) is clearly apparent to you from their (ruined) dwellings. Shaytan made their deeds fair seeming to them, and turned them away from the path, though they were intelligent.

And indeed Musa came to them with clear Ayat, but they were arrogant in the land, yet they could not outstrip Us.
Allah tells us about these nations who disbelieved in their Messengers, and how He destroyed them and sent various kinds of punishments and vengeance upon them.
`Ad, the people of Hud, peace be upon him, used to live in the Ahqaf (curved sand-hills), near Hadramawt, in the Yemen.
Thamud, the people of Salih, lived in Al-Hijr, near Wadi Al-Qura. The Arabs used to know their dwelling place very well, and they often used to pass by it.
Qarun was the owner of great wealth and had the keys to immense treasures.
Fir`awn, the king of Egypt at the time of Musa, and his minister Haman were two Coptics who disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger, peace be upon him.
