Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Qasas Verse 9

Al-Qasas [28]: 9 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَقَالَتِ امْرَاَتُ فِرْعَوْنَ قُرَّتُ عَيْنٍ لِّيْ وَلَكَۗ لَا تَقْتُلُوْهُ ۖعَسٰٓى اَنْ يَّنْفَعَنَآ اَوْ نَتَّخِذَهٗ وَلَدًا وَّهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُوْنَ (القصص : ٢٨)

waqālati
وَقَالَتِ
And said
im'ra-atu
ٱمْرَأَتُ
(the) wife
fir'ʿawna
فِرْعَوْنَ
(of) Firaun
qurratu
قُرَّتُ
"A comfort
ʿaynin
عَيْنٍ
(of the) eye
لِّى
for me
walaka
وَلَكَۖ
and for you;
لَا
(Do) not
taqtulūhu
تَقْتُلُوهُ
kill him;
ʿasā
عَسَىٰٓ
perhaps
an
أَن
(that)
yanfaʿanā
يَنفَعَنَآ
he may benefit us
aw
أَوْ
or
nattakhidhahu
نَتَّخِذَهُۥ
we may take him
waladan
وَلَدًا
(as) a son"
wahum
وَهُمْ
And they
لَا
(did) not
yashʿurūna
يَشْعُرُونَ
perceive

Transliteration:

Wa qaalatim ra atu Fir'awna qurratu 'aynil lee wa lak; laa taqtuloohu 'asaaa aiyanfa'anaa aw nattakhizahoo waladanw wa hum laa yash'uroon (QS. al-Q̈aṣaṣ:9)

English / Sahih Translation:

And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye [i.e., pleasure] for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not. (QS. Al-Qasas, ayah 9)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

And the wife of Pharaoh said, (to Pharaoh about Mūsā), “He may be a delight of eye for me and you. Do not kill him. It is hoped that he will be of benefit to us, or we will adopt him as a son.” And they were not aware (of what was going to happen).

Pharaoh’s wife said ˹to him˺, “˹This baby is˺ a source of joy for me and you. Do not kill him. Perhaps he may be useful to us or we may adopt him as a son.” They were unaware ˹of what was to come˺.

Pharaoh’s wife said, “He is a source of joy for me and you. Do not kill him; he will probably benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son.” They were unaware [of the consequences].

and Pharaoh’s wife said, ‘Here is a joy to behold for me and for you! Do not kill him: he may be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son.’ They did not realize what they were doing.

The wife of Pharaoh said; "(Here is) joy of the eye, for me and for thee; slay him not. It may be that he will be use to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not (what they were doing)!

The wife of Pharaoh said: "Here is a delight of the eye to me and to you. Do not kill him. Maybe he will prove useful for us, or we may adopt him as a son." They were unaware of the end of it all.

The Pharaoh's wife said: "He will be a comfort to me and to you. Do not kill him. He may well be of some advantage to us, or we may adopt him as a son." They were not aware (of what the future held in store).

And Firaun’s wife said, “This child is the comfort of my eyes and yours*; do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as our son” – and they were unaware. (Had Firaun also said the same, Allah would have granted him faith.)

Pharaoh’s wife said [to him], ‘[This infant will be] a [source of] comfort to me and to you. Do not kill him. Maybe he will benefit us, or we will adopt him as a son.’ But they were not aware.

The Pharaoh’s wife said (to him): "(Here is a child that will be) a means of happiness for me and for you. Do not kill him. Maybe he will prove useful for us, or we may adopt him as a son." They were unaware (of how the events were being prepared and how their outcome would turn to be in the end).

And a woman of (the family of) Pharaoh said, `(This child will be) a (source of) joy and comfort to my and your eyes. Do not kill him, he may (prove to) be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.´ And they did not perceive (Our purpose).

English Literal

And Pharaoh`s woman (wife) said: "An eye`s delight/pleasure for me and for you, do not kill him, maybe/perhaps that he benefits us, or we take/receive him (as) a child (son): "And they do not feel/know/sense .

Faridul Haque

And Firaun’s wife said, “This child is the comfort of my eyes and yours *; do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as our son” - and they were unaware. (Had Firaun also said the same, Allah would have granted him faith.)

And Pharaoh´s family picked him up that he might become for them a foe and a grief; for verily, Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts were ever sinners.

And the wife of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceive not (the result of that).

And We revealed to Moses’ mother, saying: Give him suck; then when thou fearest for him, cast him into the river and fear not, nor grieve; surely We shall bring him back to thee and make him one the messengers.

The Pharaoh's wife said, "He, (Moses), is the delight of our eyes. Do not kill him. Perhaps he will benefit us or we may adopt him." They were unaware of the future.

Pharaoh's wife said to him: 'He will be a comfort to me and you. Do not slay him, perhaps he may benefit us, or we will take him for our son' But they were unaware.

And the wife of Fir`awn said: "A comfort of the eye for me and for you. Kill him not, perhaps he may be of benefit to us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not.

Wahiduddin Khan

and Pharaoh's wife said, "He will be a joy to the eye for me and you! Do not slay him: he may well be of use to us, or we may adopt him as a son." They did not realize what they were doing.

Talal Itani

Pharaoh’s wife said, “An eye's delight for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.” But they did not foresee.

Tafsir jalalayn

And Pharaoh's wife said, after he and his aids had resolved to slay him; he is, `A joyous sight for me and you. Do not slay him. Perhaps he will be of benefit to us, or we will adopt him as a son', and so they obeyed her [wish]. And they were not aware, of the sequel to their affair with him.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَقَالَتِ امْرَأَتُ فِرْعَوْنَ قُرَّتُ عَيْنٍ لِّي وَلَكَ

And the wife of Fir`awn said;"A comfort of the eye for me and for you..."

means, when Fir`awn saw him, he wanted to kill him, fearing that he was one of the Children of Israel. But his wife Asiyah bint Muzahim came to the child's defence and tried to endear him to Fir`awn, saying,
قُرَّتُ عَيْنٍ لِّي وَلَكَ
(A comfort of the eye for me and for you).

Fir`awn said;"For you he may be, but not for me."

And this was indeed the case;Allah guided her because of him, and destroyed him at his hands.

لَاا تَقْتُلُوهُ

Kill him not,

عَسَى أَن يَنفَعَنَا

perhaps he may be of benefit to us,

This is indeed what happened in her case, for Allah guided her through him and caused her to dwell in Paradise because of him.

أَوْ نَتَّخِذَهُ وَلَدًا

or we may adopt him as a son.

She wanted to take him and adopt him as a son, because she had no children from Fir`awn.

وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ



And they perceived not.

means, they did not know what Allah planned for them when they picked him up, by His great wisdom and definitive proof
