Al-Qasas [28]: 79 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَخَرَجَ عَلٰى قَوْمِهٖ فِيْ زِيْنَتِهٖ ۗقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ يُرِيْدُوْنَ الْحَيٰوةَ الدُّنْيَا يٰلَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَآ اُوْتِيَ قَارُوْنُۙ اِنَّهٗ لَذُوْ حَظٍّ عَظِيْمٍ (القصص : ٢٨)

So he went forth

(to) Qarun
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed he

حَظٍّ
(of) fortune
ʿaẓīmin
عَظِيمٍ
great"

Transliteration:

Fakharaja 'alaa qawmihee fee zeenatih; qaalal lazeena yureedoonal hayaatad dunyaa yaalaita lanaa misla maaa ootiya Qaaroonu innahoo lazoo hazzin 'azeem (QS. al-Q̈aṣaṣ:79)

English / Sahih Translation:

So he came out before his people in his adornment. Those who desired the worldly life said, "Oh, would that we had like what was given to Qarun. Indeed, he is one of great fortune." (QS. Al-Qasas, ayah 79)

Then (once) he came out before his people in his embellishment. Said those who are desirous of the worldly life, “Would that we had the like of what Qārūn has been given! He is a man of great fortune indeed.”

Then he came out before his people in all his glamour. Those who desired the life of this world wished, “If only we could have something like what Korah has been given. He is truly a man of great fortune!”

Once Korah went forth among his people in full glitter. Those seeking the life of this world said: "Would that we had the like of what Korah has! He truly has a great fortune."

Then he came before his people in all pomp; and those enamoured of this world, said: "Ah would that we had what Qarun has been given! He indeed possesses great good fortune."

He therefore came before his people in his pomp; said those who desired the worldly life, “If only we were to get what Qaroon has been given – he is indeed very fortunate.”

So he emerged before his people in his finery. Those who desired the life of the world said, ‘We wish we had like what Korah has been given! Indeed he is greatly fortunate.’

(Korah) showed off before his people in all his pomp. Those who cared only for the life of this world said: "Ah, if we but had the like of what Korah has been given! Indeed he is one of tremendous good fortune!"

Then (it came to pass one day that) he (- Korah) appeared before his people in all his pomp and show. (Thereupon) those who were desirous of (the provisions and enjoyment of) the life of this world said, `If only we could have the like of all that Korah has been given. He is, truly speaking, the master of a great fortune.´

English Literal

So he got out/emerged on (to) his nation in his decoration/beauty/ornament, those who want the life the present/worldly life said: "Oh, if only for us similar/equal (to) what Qaroon/Korah was given/brought to, that he truly is of great luck/fortune."

Faridul Haque

He therefore came before his people in his pomp; said those who desired the worldly life, “If only we were to get what Qaroon has been given - he is indeed very fortunate.”

Said he, "I have only been given it because of the knowledge which I possess." Knew he not that Allah had destroyed before him many generations of those who were mightier than he in strength and greater in following? But the guilty are not asked immediately concerning their sins.

So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: "Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun (Korah) has been given? Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune."

And seek the abode of the Hereafter by means of what Allah has given thee, and neglect not thy portion of the world, and do good (to others) as Allah has done good to thee, and seek not to make mischief in the land. Surely Allah loves not the mischief-makers.

So he went forth to his people in his finery. Those who desire this world's life said: O would that we had the like of what Qaroun is given; most surely he is possessed of mighty good fortune.

Korah would bedeck himself to show off his wealth. Those who wanted worldly gains would say, "Would that we were given that which Korah has received. He has certainly received a great share."

So he went out in all his finery among his nation, those who desired this life said: 'Would that we had the like of that Korah has been given! He has indeed a mighty fortune'

So, he went forth before his people in his finery. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: "Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun has been given! Verily, he is the owner of a great fortune."

Then he went forth before his people in all his pomp. Those who were eager for the life of this world said, "If only we had the like of Korah's fortune! He really is a very fortunate man,"

And he went out before his people in his splendor. Those who desired the worldly life said, “If only we possessed the likes of what Quaroon was given. He is indeed very fortunate.”

Tafsir jalalayn

So he, Korah, emerged before his people in his finery, with his large retinue [all of them] in procession dressed in gold and silk garments and mounted on adorned horses and mules. Those who desired the life of this world said, `O (y is for drawing attention) would that we had the like of what Korah has been given, this world. Truly he enjoys great fortune', abundant [fortune] in it.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

How Qarun went forth in His Finery, and His People's Comments

Allah tells;

فَخَرَجَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ فِي زِينَتِهِ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنيَا

So, he went forth before his people in his finery. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said;

Allah tells us how Qarun went forth one day before his people with his magnificent regalia; wearing his fine clothes, accompanied by his fine horses, his servants and retinue. When those whose desires and inclinations were for the world saw his adornments and splendor, they wished that they could have the same as he had been given, and said;

يَا لَيْتَ لَنَا مِثْلَ مَا أُوتِيَ قَارُونُ إِنَّهُ لَذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ



Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun has been given! Verily, he is the owner of a great fortune.

meaning, `he is very lucky and has a great share in this world.
