Al-Qasas [28]: 73 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمِنْ رَّحْمَتِهٖ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لِتَسْكُنُوْا فِيْهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوْا مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُوْنَ (القصص : ٢٨)

wamin
وَمِن
And from
raḥmatihi
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ
His Mercy
jaʿala
جَعَلَ
He made
lakumu
لَكُمُ
for you
al-layla
ٱلَّيْلَ
the night
wal-nahāra
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
and the day
litaskunū
لِتَسْكُنُوا۟
that you may rest
fīhi
فِيهِ
therein
walitabtaghū
وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟
and that you may seek
min
مِن
from
faḍlihi
فَضْلِهِۦ
His Bounty
walaʿallakum
وَلَعَلَّكُمْ
and so that you may
tashkurūna
تَشْكُرُونَ
be grateful

Transliteration:

Wa mir rahmatihee ja'ala lakumul laila wannahaara litaskunoo feehi wa litabtaghoo min fadlihee wa la'allakum tashkuroon (QS. al-Q̈aṣaṣ:73)

English / Sahih Translation:

And out of His mercy He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and [by day] seek from His bounty and [that] perhaps you will be grateful. (QS. Al-Qasas, ayah 73)

And it is out of His mercy that He has made day and night for you, so that you may have rest in it, and so that you may search for His grace, and so that you may be grateful.

English Literal

And from His mercy, He made/put for you the night and the daytime, to be tranquil/settled in it, and to wish/desire from His grace/favour/blessing, and maybe/perhaps you thank/be grateful.

Tafsir jalalayn

And of His mercy, exalted be He, He has made for you night and day, that you may rest therein, in the night, and that you may seek, in the day, of His bounty, to earn [your livelihood], that perhaps you might give thanks', for the grace [of God] during both of these [times].

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمِن رَّحْمَتِهِ

Will you not then see, It is out of His mercy, (towards you),

جَعَلَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ

that He has made for you the night and the day,

i.e. He created both,

لِتَسْكُنُوا فِيهِ

that you may rest therein, (during the night),

وَلِتَبْتَغُوا مِن فَضْلِهِ

and that you may seek of His bounty,

during the day, by traveling, moving about and working.

وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ



and in order that you may be grateful.

So that you may give thanks to Allah by performing all kinds of acts of worship at night and during the day. Whoever misses something during the night can make it up during the day, and vice versa.

This is like the Ayah,

وَهُوَ الَّذِى جَعَلَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً لِّمَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يَذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُوراً

And He it is Who has put the night and the day in succession, for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude. (25;62)
