Al-Qasas [28]: 16 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَ رَبِّ اِنِّيْ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِيْ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ فَغَفَرَ لَهٗ ۗاِنَّهٗ هُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ (القصص : ٢٨)

"My Lord!
innī
إِنِّى
Indeed I
ẓalamtu
ظَلَمْتُ
[I] have wronged
nafsī
نَفْسِى
my soul
fa-igh'fir
فَٱغْفِرْ
so forgive
لِى
[for] me"
faghafara
فَغَفَرَ
Then He forgave
lahu
لَهُۥٓۚ
[for] him
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed He
huwa
هُوَ
He (is)
l-ghafūru
ٱلْغَفُورُ
the Oft-Forgiving
l-raḥīmu
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
the Most Merciful

Transliteration:

Qaala Rabbi innee zalamtu nafsee faghfir lee faghafaralah; innahoo Huwal Ghafoorur Raheem (QS. al-Q̈aṣaṣ:16)

English / Sahih Translation:

He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. (QS. Al-Qasas, ayah 16)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

He said, “O my Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me.” So He forgave him. Indeed He is the most Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

He pleaded, “My Lord! I have definitely wronged my soul, so forgive me.” So He forgave him, ˹for˺ He is indeed the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

He said, “My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me,” Then He forgave him, for He is indeed the All-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

Then he prayed: "My Lord! I have indeed inflicted wrong on myself, so do forgive me," wherefore Allah forgave him for He is Ever Forgiving, Most Merciful.

"O Lord," he prayed, "I have done wrong, forgive me." And God forgave him. Verily He is forgiving and kind.

He said (in supplication): "My Lord! Indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me." So He forgave him. Surely He is the One Who is the All-Forgiving, the All-Compassionate (especially toward His believing, repentant servants).

(Moses) said (praying), `My Lord! I have involved myself into trouble, so protect me.´ Thereupon He protected him (from the evil consequences of his act). Verily, He is the Great Protector, the Ever Merciful.

English Literal

He said: "My Lord, that I caused injustice (to) myself, so forgive for me." So He forgave for Him, that He truly is, He is the forgiving, the merciful.

He said, “My Lord! I have indeed wronged my soul * therefore forgive me” – He therefore forgave him; indeed only He is the Oft Forgiving, the Most Merciful. (* By getting angry.)

And he entered into the city at a time when the people thereof were heedless, and he found therein two men fighting; the one of his own sect and the other of his enemies. And he who was of his sect asked his aid against him who was of his enemies. So Moses smote him with his fist and made an end of him. Said he, "This is of the work of Satan, for verily, he is an enemy that manifestly misleads."

He prayed, "Forgive me Lord, for I have sinned against my soul." God forgave him; for He is the Forgiving One, the Merciful.

He said, “My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me.” So He forgave him. He is the Forgiver, the Merciful.

Tafsir jalalayn

He said, remorsefully, `My Lord, I have indeed wronged myself, by killing him, so forgive me!' So He forgave him. Truly He is the Forgiving, the Merciful, that is to say, the One Who has always possessed, and will always possess, these two attributes.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَ

He said, (refers to Musa).

رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي


"My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, so forgive me."

فَغَفَرَ لَهُ

Then He forgave him.

إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ



Verily, He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful
