(The Stories)

21

فَخَرَجَ مِنْهَا خَاۤىِٕفًا يَّتَرَقَّبُ ۖقَالَ رَبِّ نَجِّنِيْ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ ࣖ ٢١

fakharaja
فَخَرَجَ
So he left
min'hā
مِنْهَا
from it
khāifan
خَآئِفًا
fearing
yataraqqabu
يَتَرَقَّبُۖ
(and) vigilant
qāla
قَالَ
He said
rabbi
رَبِّ
"My Lord!
najjinī
نَجِّنِى
Save me
mina
مِنَ
from
l-qawmi
ٱلْقَوْمِ
the people -
l-ẓālimīna
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers"
So he left it, fearful and anticipating [apprehension]. He said, "My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 21)
Tafsir
22

وَلَمَّا تَوَجَّهَ تِلْقَاۤءَ مَدْيَنَ قَالَ عَسٰى رَبِّيْٓ اَنْ يَّهْدِيَنِيْ سَوَاۤءَ السَّبِيْلِ ٢٢

walammā
وَلَمَّا
And when
tawajjaha
تَوَجَّهَ
he turned his face
til'qāa
تِلْقَآءَ
towards
madyana
مَدْيَنَ
Madyan
qāla
قَالَ
he said
ʿasā
عَسَىٰ
"Perhaps
rabbī
رَبِّىٓ
my Lord
an
أَن
[that]
yahdiyanī
يَهْدِيَنِى
will guide me
sawāa
سَوَآءَ
(to the) sound
l-sabīli
ٱلسَّبِيلِ
way"
And when he directed himself toward Madyan, he said, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 22)
Tafsir
23

وَلَمَّا وَرَدَ مَاۤءَ مَدْيَنَ وَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ اُمَّةً مِّنَ النَّاسِ يَسْقُوْنَ ەۖ وَوَجَدَ مِنْ دُوْنِهِمُ امْرَاَتَيْنِ تَذُوْدٰنِۚ قَالَ مَا خَطْبُكُمَا ۗقَالَتَا لَا نَسْقِيْ حَتّٰى يُصْدِرَ الرِّعَاۤءُ وَاَبُوْنَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيْرٌ ٢٣

And when

he came

مَآءَ
(to the) water
madyana
مَدْيَنَ
(of) Madyan
wajada
وَجَدَ
he found
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
on it
ummatan
أُمَّةً
a group
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-nāsi
ٱلنَّاسِ
men
yasqūna
يَسْقُونَ
watering
wawajada
وَوَجَدَ
and he found
min
مِن
besides them
dūnihimu
دُونِهِمُ
besides them
im'ra-atayni
ٱمْرَأَتَيْنِ
two women
tadhūdāni
تَذُودَانِۖ
keeping back
qāla
قَالَ
He said
مَا
"What
khaṭbukumā
خَطْبُكُمَاۖ
(is the) matter with both of you?"
qālatā
قَالَتَا
They said
لَا
"We cannot water
nasqī
نَسْقِى
"We cannot water
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
yuṣ'dira
يُصْدِرَ
take away
l-riʿāu
ٱلرِّعَآءُۖ
the shepherds
wa-abūnā
وَأَبُونَا
and our father
shaykhun
شَيْخٌ
(is) a very old man"
kabīrun
كَبِيرٌ
(is) a very old man"
And when he came to the water [i.e., well] of Madyan, he found there a crowd of people watering [their flocks], and he found aside from them two women holding back [their flocks]. He said, "What is your circumstance?" They said, "We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 23)
Tafsir
24

فَسَقٰى لَهُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَلّٰىٓ اِلَى الظِّلِّ فَقَالَ رَبِّ اِنِّيْ لِمَآ اَنْزَلْتَ اِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيْرٌ ٢٤

fasaqā
فَسَقَىٰ
So he watered
lahumā
لَهُمَا
for them
thumma
ثُمَّ
Then
tawallā
تَوَلَّىٰٓ
he turned back
ilā
إِلَى
to
l-ẓili
ٱلظِّلِّ
the shade
faqāla
فَقَالَ
and said
rabbi
رَبِّ
"My Lord!
innī
إِنِّى
Indeed I am
limā
لِمَآ
of whatever
anzalta
أَنزَلْتَ
You send
ilayya
إِلَىَّ
to me
min
مِنْ
of
khayrin
خَيْرٍ
good
faqīrun
فَقِيرٌ
(in) need"
So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 24)
Tafsir
25

فَجَاۤءَتْهُ اِحْدٰىهُمَا تَمْشِيْ عَلَى اسْتِحْيَاۤءٍ ۖقَالَتْ اِنَّ اَبِيْ يَدْعُوْكَ لِيَجْزِيَكَ اَجْرَ مَا سَقَيْتَ لَنَاۗ فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَهٗ وَقَصَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَصَصَۙ قَالَ لَا تَخَفْۗ نَجَوْتَ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظّٰلِمِيْنَ ٢٥

فَجَآءَتْهُ
Then came to him
iḥ'dāhumā
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا
one of the two women
tamshī
تَمْشِى
walking
ʿalā
عَلَى
with
is'tiḥ'yāin
ٱسْتِحْيَآءٍ
shyness
qālat
قَالَتْ
She said
inna
إِنَّ
"Indeed
abī
أَبِى
my father
yadʿūka
يَدْعُوكَ
calls you
liyajziyaka
لِيَجْزِيَكَ
that he may reward you
ajra
أَجْرَ
(the) reward
مَا
(for) what
saqayta
سَقَيْتَ
you watered
lanā
لَنَاۚ
for us"
falammā
فَلَمَّا
So when
jāahu
جَآءَهُۥ
he came to him
waqaṣṣa
وَقَصَّ
and narrated
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
to him
l-qaṣaṣa
ٱلْقَصَصَ
the story
qāla
قَالَ
he said
لَا
"(Do) not
takhaf
تَخَفْۖ
fear
najawta
نَجَوْتَ
You have escaped
mina
مِنَ
from
l-qawmi
ٱلْقَوْمِ
the people -
l-ẓālimīna
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers"
Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, "Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us." So when he came to him and related to him the story, he said, "Fear not. You have escaped from the wrongdoing people." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 25)
Tafsir
26

قَالَتْ اِحْدٰىهُمَا يٰٓاَبَتِ اسْتَأْجِرْهُ ۖاِنَّ خَيْرَ مَنِ اسْتَأْجَرْتَ الْقَوِيُّ الْاَمِيْنُ ٢٦

qālat
قَالَتْ
Said
iḥ'dāhumā
إِحْدَىٰهُمَا
one of them
yāabati
يَٰٓأَبَتِ
"O my father!
is'tajir'hu
ٱسْتَـْٔجِرْهُۖ
Hire him
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
khayra
خَيْرَ
(the) best
mani
مَنِ
whom
is'tajarta
ٱسْتَـْٔجَرْتَ
you (can) hire
l-qawiyu
ٱلْقَوِىُّ
(is) the strong
l-amīnu
ٱلْأَمِينُ
the trustworthy"
One of the women said, "O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 26)
Tafsir
27

قَالَ اِنِّيْٓ اُرِيْدُ اَنْ اُنْكِحَكَ اِحْدَى ابْنَتَيَّ هٰتَيْنِ عَلٰٓى اَنْ تَأْجُرَنِيْ ثَمٰنِيَ حِجَجٍۚ فَاِنْ اَتْمَمْتَ عَشْرًا فَمِنْ عِنْدِكَۚ وَمَآ اُرِيْدُ اَنْ اَشُقَّ عَلَيْكَۗ سَتَجِدُنِيْٓ اِنْ شَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيْنَ ٢٧

قَالَ
He said
innī
إِنِّىٓ
"Indeed, I
urīdu
أُرِيدُ
[I] wish
an
أَنْ
to
unkiḥaka
أُنكِحَكَ
marry you to
iḥ'dā
إِحْدَى
one
ib'natayya
ٱبْنَتَىَّ
(of) my daughters
hātayni
هَٰتَيْنِ
(of) these two
ʿalā
عَلَىٰٓ
on
an
أَن
that
tajuranī
تَأْجُرَنِى
you serve me
thamāniya
ثَمَٰنِىَ
(for) eight
ḥijajin
حِجَجٍۖ
years
fa-in
فَإِنْ
but if
atmamta
أَتْمَمْتَ
you complete
ʿashran
عَشْرًا
ten
famin
فَمِنْ
then from
ʿindika
عِندِكَۖ
you
wamā
وَمَآ
And not
urīdu
أُرِيدُ
I wish
an
أَنْ
to
ashuqqa
أَشُقَّ
make it difficult
ʿalayka
عَلَيْكَۚ
for you
satajidunī
سَتَجِدُنِىٓ
You will find me
in
إِن
if
shāa
شَآءَ
Allah wills
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah wills
mina
مِنَ
of
l-ṣāliḥīna
ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
the righteous"
He said, "Indeed, I wish to wed you one of these, my two daughters, on [the condition] that you serve me for eight years; but if you complete ten, it will be [as a favor] from you. And I do not wish to put you in difficulty. You will find me, if Allah wills, from among the righteous." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 27)
Tafsir
28

قَالَ ذٰلِكَ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَكَۗ اَيَّمَا الْاَجَلَيْنِ قَضَيْتُ فَلَا عُدْوَانَ عَلَيَّۗ وَاللّٰهُ عَلٰى مَا نَقُوْلُ وَكِيْلٌ ࣖ ٢٨

qāla
قَالَ
He said
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
"That
baynī
بَيْنِى
(is) between me
wabaynaka
وَبَيْنَكَۖ
and between you
ayyamā
أَيَّمَا
Whichever
l-ajalayni
ٱلْأَجَلَيْنِ
(of) the two terms
qaḍaytu
قَضَيْتُ
I complete
falā
فَلَا
then no
ʿud'wāna
عُدْوَٰنَ
injustice
ʿalayya
عَلَىَّۖ
to me
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
and Allah
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
مَا
what
naqūlu
نَقُولُ
we say
wakīlun
وَكِيلٌ
(is) a Witness"
[Moses] said, "That is [established] between me and you. Whichever of the two terms I complete – there is no injustice to me, and Allah, over what we say, is Witness." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 28)
Tafsir
29

۞ فَلَمَّا قَضٰى مُوْسَى الْاَجَلَ وَسَارَ بِاَهْلِهٖٓ اٰنَسَ مِنْ جَانِبِ الطُّوْرِ نَارًاۗ قَالَ لِاَهْلِهِ امْكُثُوْٓا اِنِّيْٓ اٰنَسْتُ نَارًا لَّعَلِّيْٓ اٰتِيْكُمْ مِّنْهَا بِخَبَرٍ اَوْ جَذْوَةٍ مِّنَ النَّارِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَصْطَلُوْنَ ٢٩

falammā
فَلَمَّا
Then when
qaḍā
قَضَىٰ
Musa fulfilled
mūsā
مُوسَى
Musa fulfilled
l-ajala
ٱلْأَجَلَ
the term
wasāra
وَسَارَ
and was traveling
bi-ahlihi
بِأَهْلِهِۦٓ
with his family
ānasa
ءَانَسَ
he saw
min
مِن
in
jānibi
جَانِبِ
(the) direction
l-ṭūri
ٱلطُّورِ
(of) Mount Tur
nāran
نَارًا
a fire
qāla
قَالَ
He said
li-ahlihi
لِأَهْلِهِ
to his family
um'kuthū
ٱمْكُثُوٓا۟
"Stay here
innī
إِنِّىٓ
indeed, I
ānastu
ءَانَسْتُ
[I] perceive
nāran
نَارًا
a fire
laʿallī
لَّعَلِّىٓ
Perhaps
ātīkum
ءَاتِيكُم
I will bring you
min'hā
مِّنْهَا
from there
bikhabarin
بِخَبَرٍ
some information
aw
أَوْ
or
jadhwatin
جَذْوَةٍ
a burning wood
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-nāri
ٱلنَّارِ
the fire
laʿallakum
لَعَلَّكُمْ
so that you may
taṣṭalūna
تَصْطَلُونَ
warm yourselves"
And when Moses had completed the term and was traveling with his family, he perceived from the direction of the mount a fire. He said to his family, "Stay here; indeed, I have perceived a fire. Perhaps I will bring you from there [some] information or burning wood from the fire that you may warm yourselves." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 29)
Tafsir
30

فَلَمَّآ اَتٰىهَا نُوْدِيَ مِنْ شَاطِئِ الْوَادِ الْاَيْمَنِ فِى الْبُقْعَةِ الْمُبٰرَكَةِ مِنَ الشَّجَرَةِ اَنْ يّٰمُوْسٰٓى اِنِّيْٓ اَنَا اللّٰهُ رَبُّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ ۙ ٣٠

falammā
فَلَمَّآ
But when
atāhā
أَتَىٰهَا
he came (to) it
nūdiya
نُودِىَ
he was called
min
مِن
from
shāṭi-i
شَٰطِئِ
(the) side
l-wādi
ٱلْوَادِ
(of) the valley -
l-aymani
ٱلْأَيْمَنِ
the right
فِى
in
l-buq'ʿati
ٱلْبُقْعَةِ
the place even
l-mubārakati
ٱلْمُبَٰرَكَةِ
blessed
mina
مِنَ
from
l-shajarati
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ
the tree
an
أَن
that
yāmūsā
يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ
"O Musa!
innī
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed
anā
أَنَا
I Am
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
rabbu
رَبُّ
(the) Lord
l-ʿālamīna
ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
(of) the worlds
But when he came to it, he was called from the right side of the valley in a blessed spot – from the tree, "O Moses, indeed I am Allah, Lord of the worlds." (QS. [28] Al-Qasas: 30)
