Al-Qur'an Surah An-Naml Verse 34

An-Naml [27]: 34 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَتْ اِنَّ الْمُلُوْكَ اِذَا دَخَلُوْا قَرْيَةً اَفْسَدُوْهَا وَجَعَلُوْٓا اَعِزَّةَ اَهْلِهَآ اَذِلَّةً ۚوَكَذٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُوْنَ (النمل : ٢٧)

قَالَتْ
She said
inna
إِنَّ
"Indeed
l-mulūka
ٱلْمُلُوكَ
the kings
idhā
إِذَا
when
dakhalū
دَخَلُوا۟
they enter
qaryatan
قَرْيَةً
a town
afsadūhā
أَفْسَدُوهَا
they ruin it
wajaʿalū
وَجَعَلُوٓا۟
and make
aʿizzata
أَعِزَّةَ
(the) most honorable
ahlihā
أَهْلِهَآ
(of) its people
adhillatan
أَذِلَّةًۖ
(the) lowest
wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
yafʿalūna
يَفْعَلُونَ
they do

Transliteration:

Qaalat innal mulooka izaa dakhaloo qaryatan afsadoohaa wa ja'alooo a'izzata ahlihaaa azillah; wa kazaalika yaf'aloon (QS. an-Naml:34)

English / Sahih Translation:

She said, "Indeed kings – when they enter a city, they ruin it and render the honored of its people humbled. And thus do they do. (QS. An-Naml, ayah 34)

She said, “In fact when the kings enter a town, they put it to disorder, and put its honorable citizens to disgrace, and this is how they normally do.

The Queen said: "When the kings enter a country they cause corruption in it and abase those of its people who are held in honour. This is what they are wont to do.

She said: "Surely when kings enter a city they destroy it and despoil the honour of its nobility. So will they do (to us).

English Literal

She said: "That truly the kings if they entered a village/urban city they corrupted it and they made/put its more dignified/honoured people , humiliated/disgraced , and as/like that they make/do ."

Tafsir jalalayn

She said, `Indeed kings, when they enter a town, ruin it, with destruction, and reduce the mightiest of its inhabitants to the most abased. That is what they too will do, namely, the senders of this letter.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَتْ

She said;

Ibn Abbas said;

"Bilqis said;

إِنَّ الْمُلُوكَ إِذَا دَخَلُوا قَرْيَةً أَفْسَدُوهَا وَجَعَلُوا أَعِزَّةَ أَهْلِهَا أَذِلَّةً

Verily, kings, when they enter a town, they destroy it and make the most honorable amongst its people the lowest.

And Allah said;

وَكَذَلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ



And thus they do.

Then she resorted to peaceful means, seeking a truce and trying to placate Suleiman, and said;

وَإِنِّي مُرْسِلَةٌ إِلَيْهِم بِهَدِيَّةٍ فَنَاظِرَةٌ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ الْمُرْسَلُونَ
