Al-Qur'an Surah An-Naml Verse 32

An-Naml [27]: 32 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَتْ يٰٓاَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُا اَفْتُوْنِيْ فِيْٓ اَمْرِيْۚ مَا كُنْتُ قَاطِعَةً اَمْرًا حَتّٰى تَشْهَدُوْنِ (النمل : ٢٧)

She said

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا

ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟
chiefs!
aftūnī
أَفْتُونِى
Advise me
فِىٓ
in
amrī
أَمْرِى
my affair
مَا
Not
kuntu
كُنتُ
I would be
qāṭiʿatan
قَاطِعَةً
the one to decide
amran
أَمْرًا
any matter
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
tashhadūni
تَشْهَدُونِ
you are present with me"

Transliteration:

Qaalat yaaa aiyuhal mala'u aftoonee fee amree maa kuntu qaati'atan amran hattaa tashhhaddon (QS. an-Naml:32)

English / Sahih Translation:

She said, "O eminent ones, advise me in my affair. I would not decide a matter until you witness [for] me." (QS. An-Naml, ayah 32)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

She said, “O chieftains, advise me in the matter I have (before me). I am not the one who decides a matter absolutely unless you are present with me.”

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

She said, “O chiefs! Advise me in this matter of mine, for I would never make any decision without you.”

Ruwwad Translation Center

She said, “O chiefs, advice me in this matter of mine, for I would make no decision without your consent.”

She said, 'O Council, pronounce to me concerning my affair; I am not used to decide an affair until you bear me witness.'

She said, ‘Counsellors, give me your counsel in the matter I now face: I only ever decide on matters in your presence.’

She said: O chiefs! counsel me in my affair. I am wont not to resolve on any affair until ye are present with me.

She said; "Ye chiefs! advise me in (this) my affair; no affair have I decided except in your presence."

(After reading the letter) the Queen said: "Nobles, let me have your counsel in this matter for I make no firm decision without you."

." Advise me, O nobles," she said "in this matter. I do not decide any thing until you concur."

She said, “O chieftains, advise me in this matter of mine; I do not give a final decision until you are present with me.”

She said, ‘O [members of the] elite! Give me your opinion concerning my matter. I do not decide any matter until you are present.’

"O you nobles! Let me have your counsel in this matter. (You know well that) I never conclude a decision on a matter unless you are present with me."

She said, `Chieftains! give me your sound and mature advice in the matter which confronts me, (for) I decide no important matter except when you are present with me (to advise).´

English Literal

She said: "You, you the nobles/assembly , give me your opinion in my matter/affair/order/command, I was not deciding a matter/affair/order/command until you witness/testify."

She said, “O chieftains, advise me in this matter of mine; I do not give a final decision until you are present with me.”

"Exalt not yourself against me, but come to me as those who Surrender (unto Allah i.e. as a Muslim)"

She said: "O chiefs! Advise me in case of mine. I decide no case till you are present with me."

Now advise me in this, Counsellors. I never decide any affair till I have conferred with you."

Talal Itani

She said, “O counselors, advise me in this matter of mine. I never make a decision unless you are present.”

Tafsir jalalayn

She said, `O [members of the] council, give me an opinion (read y ayyuh'l-mala'u aftn, pronouncing both hamzas, or by not pronouncing the second and changing it into a ww), in other words, guide me, in this matter of mine. I never decide on a matter, I never conclude it, until you are present'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Bilqis consults with Her Chiefs

Allah tells;

قَالَتْ

She said;

When she read Suleiman's letter to them and consulted with them about this news, then she said;

يَا أَيُّهَا المَلَاُ أَفْتُونِي فِي أَمْرِي مَا كُنتُ قَاطِعَةً أَمْرًا حَتَّى تَشْهَدُونِ



"O chiefs! Advise me in (this) case of mine. I decide no case till you are present with me."

meaning, `until you come together and offer me your advice.
