Al-Qur'an Surah An-Naml Verse 15
An-Naml [27]: 15 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَلَقَدْ اٰتَيْنَا دَاوٗدَ وَسُلَيْمٰنَ عِلْمًاۗ وَقَالَا الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِيْ فَضَّلَنَا عَلٰى كَثِيْرٍ مِّنْ عِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ (النمل : ٢٧)

- وَلَقَدْ
- And verily
- ātaynā
- ءَاتَيْنَا
- We gave
- dāwūda
- دَاوُۥدَ
- Dawood
- wasulaymāna
- وَسُلَيْمَٰنَ
- and Sulaiman
- ʿil'man
- عِلْمًاۖ
- knowledge
- waqālā
- وَقَالَا
- and they said
- l-ḥamdu
- ٱلْحَمْدُ
- "Praise be
- lillahi
- لِلَّهِ
- to Allah
- alladhī
- ٱلَّذِى
- the One Who
- faḍḍalanā
- فَضَّلَنَا
- has favored us
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- over
- kathīrin
- كَثِيرٍ
- many
- min
- مِّنْ
- of
- ʿibādihi
- عِبَادِهِ
- His servants
- l-mu'minīna
- ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
- the believers"
Transliteration:
Wa laqad aatainaa Daawooda wa sulaimaana 'ilmaa; wa qaalal hamdu lil laahil lazee faddalanaa 'alaa kaseerim min 'ibaadihil mu'mineen(QS. an-Naml:15)
English / Sahih Translation:
And We had certainly given to David and Solomon knowledge, and they said, "Praise [is due] to Allah, who has favored us over many of His believing servants." (QS. An-Naml, ayah 15)

Surely We gave knowledge to Dāwūd and Sulaimān, and they said, “Praise belongs to Allah who made us excel many of His believing servants.

And We had (E) given David and Soliman knowledge, and they (B) said: "The praise/gratitude (is) to God who preferred/favoured us over many from His slaves/worshippers , the believers."

Tafsir jalalayn
And verily We gave David and Solomon, his son, knowledge, of rendering [decisive] judgement between people, and [knowledge] of the speech of birds and of other things, and they said, giving thanks to God, `Praise be to God Who has favoured us, with prophethood and the disposal of jinn, humans and devils [to our service], over many of His believing servants'.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Dawud and Suleiman (peace be upon them), the organization of Suleiman's Troops and His passage through the Valley of the Ants
Here Allah tells us about the great blessings and favors which He bestowed upon two of His servants and Prophets, Dawud (David) and his son Suleiman (Solomon), peace be upon them both, and how they enjoyed happiness in this world and the Hereafter, power and authority in this world, and the position of being Prophets and Messengers.
Allah says;
وَلَقَدْ اتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ عِلْمًا وَقَالَا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي فَضَّلَنَا عَلَى كَثِيرٍ مِّنْ عِبَادِهِ الْمُوْمِنِينَ
And indeed We gave knowledge to Dawud and Suleiman, and they both said;
"All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has preferred us above many of His believing servants!
