اَلَّا تَعْلُوْا عَلَيَّ وَأْتُوْنِيْ مُسْلِمِيْنَ ࣖ ٣١
- allā

- تَعْلُوا۟
- exalt yourselves
- ʿalayya
- عَلَىَّ
- against me
- watūnī
- وَأْتُونِى
- but come to me
- mus'limīna
- مُسْلِمِينَ
- (in) submission'"
Be not haughty with me but come to me in submission [as Muslims].'" (QS. [27] An-Naml: 31)Tafsir
قَالَتْ يٰٓاَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُا اَفْتُوْنِيْ فِيْٓ اَمْرِيْۚ مَا كُنْتُ قَاطِعَةً اَمْرًا حَتّٰى تَشْهَدُوْنِ ٣٢

- She said

- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- "O
- l-mala-u
- ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟
- chiefs!
- aftūnī
- أَفْتُونِى
- Advise me
- fī
- فِىٓ
- in
- amrī
- أَمْرِى
- my affair
- mā
- مَا
- Not
- kuntu
- كُنتُ
- I would be
- qāṭiʿatan
- قَاطِعَةً
- the one to decide
- amran
- أَمْرًا
- any matter
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- until
- tashhadūni
- تَشْهَدُونِ
- you are present with me"
She said, "O eminent ones, advise me in my affair. I would not decide a matter until you witness [for] me." (QS. [27] An-Naml: 32)Tafsir
قَالُوْا نَحْنُ اُولُوْا قُوَّةٍ وَّاُولُوْا بَأْسٍ شَدِيْدٍ ەۙ وَّالْاَمْرُ اِلَيْكِ فَانْظُرِيْ مَاذَا تَأْمُرِيْنَ ٣٣

- They said

- نَحْنُ
- "We
- ulū
- أُو۟لُوا۟
- (are) possessors
- quwwatin
- قُوَّةٍ
- (of) strength
- wa-ulū
- وَأُو۟لُوا۟
- and possessors
- basin
- بَأْسٍ
- (of) might
- shadīdin
- شَدِيدٍ
- great
- wal-amru
- وَٱلْأَمْرُ
- and the command
- ilayki
- إِلَيْكِ
- (is) up to you
- fa-unẓurī
- فَٱنظُرِى
- so look
- mādhā
- مَاذَا
- what
- tamurīna
- تَأْمُرِينَ
- you will command"
They said, "We are men of strength and of great military might, but the command is yours, so see what you will command." (QS. [27] An-Naml: 33)Tafsir
قَالَتْ اِنَّ الْمُلُوْكَ اِذَا دَخَلُوْا قَرْيَةً اَفْسَدُوْهَا وَجَعَلُوْٓا اَعِزَّةَ اَهْلِهَآ اَذِلَّةً ۚوَكَذٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُوْنَ ٣٤

- إِنَّ
- "Indeed
- l-mulūka
- ٱلْمُلُوكَ
- the kings
- idhā
- إِذَا
- when
- dakhalū
- دَخَلُوا۟
- they enter
- qaryatan
- قَرْيَةً
- a town
- afsadūhā
- أَفْسَدُوهَا
- they ruin it
- wajaʿalū
- وَجَعَلُوٓا۟
- and make
- aʿizzata
- أَعِزَّةَ
- (the) most honorable
- ahlihā
- أَهْلِهَآ
- (of) its people
- adhillatan
- أَذِلَّةًۖ
- (the) lowest
- wakadhālika
- وَكَذَٰلِكَ
- And thus
- yafʿalūna
- يَفْعَلُونَ
- they do
She said, "Indeed kings – when they enter a city, they ruin it and render the honored of its people humbled. And thus do they do. (QS. [27] An-Naml: 34)Tafsir
وَاِنِّيْ مُرْسِلَةٌ اِلَيْهِمْ بِهَدِيَّةٍ فَنٰظِرَةٌ ۢبِمَ يَرْجِعُ الْمُرْسَلُوْنَ ٣٥
- wa-innī
- وَإِنِّى
- But indeed I am
- mur'silatun
- مُرْسِلَةٌ
- going to send
- ilayhim
- إِلَيْهِم
- to them
- bihadiyyatin
- بِهَدِيَّةٍ
- a gift
- fanāẓiratun
- فَنَاظِرَةٌۢ
- and see
- bima
- بِمَ
- with what
- yarjiʿu
- يَرْجِعُ
- return
- l-mur'salūna
- ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ
- the messengers"
But indeed, I will send to them a gift and see with what [reply] the messengers will return." (QS. [27] An-Naml: 35)Tafsir
فَلَمَّا جَاۤءَ سُلَيْمٰنَ قَالَ اَتُمِدُّوْنَنِ بِمَالٍ فَمَآ اٰتٰىنِ َۧ اللّٰهُ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّآ اٰتٰىكُمْۚ بَلْ اَنْتُمْ بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ تَفْرَحُوْنَ ٣٦

- فَلَمَّا
- So when

- جَآءَ
- came
- sulaymāna
- سُلَيْمَٰنَ
- (to) Sulaiman
- qāla
- قَالَ
- he said
- atumiddūnani
- أَتُمِدُّونَنِ
- "Will you provide me
- bimālin
- بِمَالٍ
- with wealth?
- famā
- فَمَآ
- But what
- ātāniya
- ءَاتَىٰنِۦَ
- Allah has given me
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah has given me
- khayrun
- خَيْرٌ
- (is) better
- mimmā
- مِّمَّآ
- than what
- ātākum
- ءَاتَىٰكُم
- He has given you
- bal
- بَلْ
- Nay
- antum
- أَنتُم
- you
- bihadiyyatikum
- بِهَدِيَّتِكُمْ
- in your gift
- tafraḥūna
- تَفْرَحُونَ
- rejoice
So when they came to Solomon, he said, "Do you provide me with wealth? But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you. Rather, it is you who rejoice in your gift. (QS. [27] An-Naml: 36)Tafsir
اِرْجِعْ اِلَيْهِمْ فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُمْ بِجُنُوْدٍ لَّا قِبَلَ لَهُمْ بِهَا وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُمْ مِّنْهَآ اَذِلَّةً وَّهُمْ صَاغِرُوْنَ ٣٧
- ir'jiʿ
- ٱرْجِعْ
- Return
- ilayhim
- إِلَيْهِمْ
- to them
- falanatiyannahum
- فَلَنَأْتِيَنَّهُم
- surely we will come to them
- bijunūdin
- بِجُنُودٍ
- with hosts
- lā
- لَّا
- not
- qibala
- قِبَلَ
- (is) resistance
- lahum
- لَهُم
- for them
- bihā
- بِهَا
- of it
- walanukh'rijannahum
- وَلَنُخْرِجَنَّهُم
- and surely we will drive them out
- min'hā
- مِّنْهَآ
- from there
- adhillatan
- أَذِلَّةً
- (in) humiliation
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- and they
- ṣāghirūna
- صَٰغِرُونَ
- (will be) abased"
Return to them, for we will surely come to them with soldiers that they will be powerless to encounter, and we will surely expel them therefrom in humiliation, and they will be debased." (QS. [27] An-Naml: 37)Tafsir
قَالَ يٰٓاَيُّهَا الْمَلَؤُا اَيُّكُمْ يَأْتِيْنِيْ بِعَرْشِهَا قَبْلَ اَنْ يَّأْتُوْنِيْ مُسْلِمِيْنَ ٣٨

- He said
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- "O
- l-mala-u
- ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟
- chiefs!
- ayyukum
- أَيُّكُمْ
- Which of you
- yatīnī
- يَأْتِينِى
- will bring me
- biʿarshihā
- بِعَرْشِهَا
- her throne
- qabla
- قَبْلَ
- before
- an
- أَن
- that
- yatūnī
- يَأْتُونِى
- they come to me
- mus'limīna
- مُسْلِمِينَ
- (in) submission?"
[Solomon] said, "O assembly [of jinn], which of you will bring me her throne before they come to me in submission?" (QS. [27] An-Naml: 38)Tafsir
قَالَ عِفْرِيْتٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ اَنَا۠ اٰتِيْكَ بِهٖ قَبْلَ اَنْ تَقُوْمَ مِنْ مَّقَامِكَۚ وَاِنِّيْ عَلَيْهِ لَقَوِيٌّ اَمِيْنٌ ٣٩

- عِفْرِيتٌ
- a strong one
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- l-jini
- ٱلْجِنِّ
- the jinn

- أَنَا۠

- will bring it to you
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- will bring it to you
- qabla
- قَبْلَ
- before
- an
- أَن
- [that]
- taqūma
- تَقُومَ
- you rise
- min
- مِن
- from
- maqāmika
- مَّقَامِكَۖ
- your place
- wa-innī
- وَإِنِّى
- And indeed, I am
- ʿalayhi
- عَلَيْهِ
- for it
- laqawiyyun
- لَقَوِىٌّ
- surely, strong
- amīnun
- أَمِينٌ
- trustworthy"
A powerful one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place, and indeed, I am for this [task] strong and trustworthy." (QS. [27] An-Naml: 39)Tafsir
قَالَ الَّذِيْ عِنْدَهٗ عِلْمٌ مِّنَ الْكِتٰبِ اَنَا۠ اٰتِيْكَ بِهٖ قَبْلَ اَنْ يَّرْتَدَّ اِلَيْكَ طَرْفُكَۗ فَلَمَّا رَاٰهُ مُسْتَقِرًّا عِنْدَهٗ قَالَ هٰذَا مِنْ فَضْلِ رَبِّيْۗ لِيَبْلُوَنِيْٓ ءَاَشْكُرُ اَمْ اَكْفُرُۗ وَمَنْ شَكَرَ فَاِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهٖۚ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَاِنَّ رَبِّيْ غَنِيٌّ كَرِيْمٌ ٤٠

- عِندَهُۥ
- with him
- ʿil'mun
- عِلْمٌ
- (was) knowledge

- مِّنَ

- the Scripture

- أَنَا۠

- ءَاتِيكَ
- will bring it to you
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- will bring it to you
- qabla
- قَبْلَ
- before
- an
- أَن
- [that]
- yartadda
- يَرْتَدَّ
- returns
- ilayka
- إِلَيْكَ
- to you
- ṭarfuka
- طَرْفُكَۚ
- your glance"
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- Then when
- raāhu
- رَءَاهُ
- he saw it
- mus'taqirran
- مُسْتَقِرًّا
- placed
- ʿindahu
- عِندَهُۥ
- before him
- qāla
- قَالَ
- he said
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- "This
- min
- مِن
- (is) from
- faḍli
- فَضْلِ
- (the) Favor
- rabbī
- رَبِّى
- (of) my Lord
- liyabluwanī
- لِيَبْلُوَنِىٓ
- to test me
- a-ashkuru
- ءَأَشْكُرُ
- whether I am grateful
- am
- أَمْ
- or
- akfuru
- أَكْفُرُۖ
- I am ungrateful
- waman
- وَمَن
- And whoever
- shakara
- شَكَرَ
- (is) grateful
- fa-innamā
- فَإِنَّمَا
- then only
- yashkuru
- يَشْكُرُ
- he is grateful
- linafsihi
- لِنَفْسِهِۦۖ
- for his own soul
- waman
- وَمَن
- And whoever
- kafara
- كَفَرَ
- (is) ungrateful
- fa-inna
- فَإِنَّ
- then indeed
- rabbī
- رَبِّى
- my Lord
- ghaniyyun
- غَنِىٌّ
- (is) Self-sufficient
- karīmun
- كَرِيمٌ
- Noble"
Said one who had knowledge from the Scripture, "I will bring it to you before your glance returns to you." And when [Solomon] saw it placed before him, he said, "This is from the favor of my Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. And whoever is grateful – his gratitude is only for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever is ungrateful – then indeed, my Lord is Free of need and Generous." (QS. [27] An-Naml: 40)Tafsir
