Al-Qur'an Surah Ash-Shu'ara Verse 19

Ash-Shu'ara [26]: 19 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ الَّتِيْ فَعَلْتَ وَاَنْتَ مِنَ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ (الشعراء : ٢٦)

wafaʿalta
وَفَعَلْتَ
And you did
faʿlataka
فَعْلَتَكَ
your deed
allatī
ٱلَّتِى
which
faʿalta
فَعَلْتَ
you did
wa-anta
وَأَنتَ
and you
mina
مِنَ
(were) of
l-kāfirīna
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
the ungrateful"

Transliteration:

Wa fa'alta fa'latakal latee fa'alta wa anta minal kaafireen (QS. aš-Šuʿarāʾ:19)

English / Sahih Translation:

And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful." (QS. Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 19)

and you did the blunder you did; still you are ungrateful.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And you committed that deed of yours -- namely, his slaying of the Egyptian -- being an ingrate', a denier of my favours to you in having reared you [among us] and not enslaved you.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ الَّتِي فَعَلْتَ

And you did dwell many years of your life with us."

And you did your deed, which you did.

So he said to him;

وَأَنتَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ



While you were one of the ingrates.

meaning, one of those who deny favors.

This was the view of Ibn Abbas and Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, and was the view favored by Ibn Jarir
