Al-Qur'an Surah Ash-Shu'ara Verse 158

Ash-Shu'ara [26]: 158 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَاَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُۗ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيَةً ۗوَمَا كَانَ اَكْثَرُهُمْ مُّؤْمِنِيْنَ (الشعراء : ٢٦)

fa-akhadhahumu
فَأَخَذَهُمُ
So seized them
l-ʿadhābu
ٱلْعَذَابُۗ
the punishment
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
فِى
in
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
laāyatan
لَءَايَةًۖ
surely is a sign
wamā
وَمَا
but not
kāna
كَانَ
are
aktharuhum
أَكْثَرُهُم
most of them
mu'minīna
مُّؤْمِنِينَ
believers

Transliteration:

Fa akhazahumul 'azaab; inna fee zaalika la Aayah; wa maa kaana aksaruhum m'mineen (QS. aš-Šuʿarāʾ:158)

English / Sahih Translation:

And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. (QS. Ash-Shu'ara, ayah 158)

So they were seized by the chastisement, which had been promised and were destroyed. Surely in that there is a sign; but most of them are not believers.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ

But they killed her, and then they became regretful. So, the torment overtook them.

Their land was shaken by a strong earthquake, and there came to them an overwhelming Sayhah (shout) which took their hearts from their places. They were overtaken by events which they were not expecting, so they were left (dead), lying prostrate in their homes.

إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَايَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّوْمِنِينَ



وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
