Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Furqan Verse 7

They said, “What sort of messenger is this who eats food and walks in the markets? Why is it that an angel has not been sent down to him who would have been a warner along with him.

Again, they say: "What sort of Messenger is this? He eats food and goes about in market-places (like any other mortal). Why is an angel not sent down to him so that he may act as a warner in his company (and help him to persuade the people)?"

They say, `What sort of a Messenger is this that he even eats food and (also) goes about in the market-places? Why has no angel been sent down to him that he may (help him and) be a warner along with him?

English Literal

And they said: "What to that (what is the matter) the messenger, he eats the food and walks in the markets, if only an angel was descended to him, so he (the angel) becomes a warner with him."

And they said, “What is the matter with this (Noble) Messenger, that he eats food and walks in the markets? Why was not an angel sent down along with him, to give warning along with him?”

They say, "What kind of a messenger is this who eats food and walks about in the market-places? Why has no angel been sent down with him to warn us?"

And they say, “What sort of messenger is this, who eats food, and walks in the marketplaces? If only an angel was sent down with him, to be alongside him a warner.”

And they also say, `What is it with this Messenger that he eats food and walks about in the marketplaces? Why has an angel not been sent down to him so as to be a warner along with him?, and confirm his truthfulness.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

What the Disbelievers said about the Messenger , refutation of Their Words, and Their ultimate Destiny

Allah tells us about the disbelievers' stubborn resistance to and rejection of the truth, with no proof or evidence for doing so.

وَقَالُوا مَالِ هَذَا الرَّسُولِ يَأْكُلُ الطَّعَامَ

And they say;"Why does this Messenger eat food,

meaning, `as we eat, and why does he need food as we need it.'

وَيَمْشِي فِي الاَْسْوَاقِ

and walk about in the markets.

means, he walks around and goes there often seeking to trade and earn a living.

لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مَلَكٌ فَيَكُونَ مَعَهُ نَذِيرًا



Why is not an angel sent down to him to be a warner with him!

They were saying;why doesn't an angel come down to him from Allah, to be a witness that what he is claiming is true!

This is like when Fir`awn said;

فَلَوْلَا أُلْقِىَ عَلَيْهِ أَسْوِرَةٌ مِّن ذَهَبٍ أَوْ جَأءَ مَعَهُ الْمَلَـيِكَةُ مُقْتَرِنِينَ

"Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him!" (43;53)

These people had a similar mentality and said the same kind of thing.

They said
