Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Furqan Verse 19

Al-Furqan [25]: 19 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوْكُمْ بِمَا تَقُوْلُوْنَۙ فَمَا تَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ صَرْفًا وَّلَا نَصْرًاۚ وَمَنْ يَّظْلِمْ مِّنْكُمْ نُذِقْهُ عَذَابًا كَبِيْرًا (الفرقان : ٢٥)

faqad
فَقَدْ

We will make him taste
ʿadhāban
عَذَابًا
a punishment

كَبِيرًا
great

Transliteration:

Faqad kazzabookum bimaa taqooloona famaa tastatee'oona sarfanw wa laa nasraa; wa mai yazlim minkum nuziqhu 'azaaban kabeeraa (QS. al-Furq̈ān:19)

English / Sahih Translation:

So they will deny you, [disbelievers], in what you say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or [find] help. And whoever commits injustice among you – We will make him taste a great punishment. (QS. Al-Furqan, ayah 19)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Thus they will refute you in what you say, and you will not be able to repulse (the punishment,) or to receive help. Whoever commits injustice from among you, We will make him taste a painful punishment.

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

˹The doomed will be told˺, “Your gods have clearly denied your claims. So now you can neither ward off ˹the punishment˺ nor get any help.” And whoever of you does wrong, We will make them taste a horrible punishment.

Thus they [the idols] will deny all what you say, so you cannot avert [punishment] nor can get any help. Whoever among you does wrong, We will make him taste a great punishment.

the Remembrance, and were a people corrupt.' So they cried lies touching the things you say, and you can neither turn it aside, nor find any help. Whosoever of you does evil, We shall let him taste a great chastisement.

[God will say], ‘Now your gods have denounced what you say as lies: you cannot avoid the punishment; you will not get any help.’ If any of you commits such evil, We shall make him taste agonizing torment.

So now they belie you in that which ye said; so ye are not able to obtain diversion nor help. And who soever of you doth wrong, him We shall make taste a great torment.

(Allah will say); "Now have they proved you liars in what ye say; so ye cannot avert (your penalty) nor (get) help." And whoever among you does wrong, him shall We cause to taste of a grievous Penalty.

Abul Ala Maududi

Thus will your gods deny alI that you are professing today. Then you shall neither be able to repel your punishment nor shall get any help from anywhere; and whoso is guilty. of iniquity'' among you, We shall make him taste a severe torment.

Ahmed Ali

(The idolaters will be told): "Your gods have refuted your assertion. You can neither avert (your doom) nor receive any help. We shall make the wicked among you taste of severe punishment."

Ahmed Raza Khan

“So the deities have belied what you state – so now you can neither avert the punishment nor help yourself; and whoever among you is unjust, We shall make him taste a terrible punishment.”

So they will certainly impugn you in what you say, and you will neither be able to circumvent [punishment] nor find help, and whoever of you does wrong, We shall make him taste a terrible punishment.

(God will say:) "So they have denied you (who falsely worship them) in all that you assert regarding them, and you can neither ward off (your due punishment) nor obtain any help (from those you falsely deified and worshipped while in the world)." (O people!) Whoever commits the greatest wrong (by associating partners with God), We will cause him to taste a great punishment.

Amatul Rahman Omar

(Then We shall say to the idol-worshipers), `Now these (deities) have given you the lie (and contradict you) with regard to what you said, so (today) you have no power to avert (the penalty) or get help (of any sort for yourselves); (remember) whosoever of you acts unjustly and goes wrong we shall make him suffer a great punishment.´

English Literal

So they had denied you because (of) what you say, so you do not be able (of) diversion and nor a victory/aid , and who causes injustice/oppresses from you, We make him taste/experience a great torture.

Faridul Haque

“So the deities have belied what you state - so now you can neither avert the punishment nor help yourself; and whoever among you is unjust, We shall make him taste a terrible punishment.”

They will say, "Be you glorified! It was not befitting for us to take any patrons besides Thee; but Thou didst give them and their fathers ease until they forgot the Reminder and became a lost people!"

Thus they (false gods all deities other than Allah) will give you (polytheists) the lie regarding what you say (that they are gods besides Allah), then you can neither avert (the punishment), nor get help. And whoever among you does wrong (i.e. sets up rivals to Allah), We shall make him taste a great torment.

Maulana Mohammad Ali

They will say: Glory be to Thee! it was not beseeming for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee, but Thou didst make them and their fathers to enjoy until they forgot the Reminder, and they became a lost people.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

So they shall indeed give you the lie in what you say, then you shall not be able to ward off or help, and whoever among you is unjust, We will make him taste a great chastisement.

Thus they will give you the lie regarding what ye say, then ye can neither avert (the doom) nor obtain help. And whoso among you doeth wrong, We shall make him taste great torment.

God will say (to the idolaters), "Your idols have rejected your faith. You cannot avoid their rejection nor can you find any help. Anyone of you who commits injustice will be made to suffer a great torment."

So they belie what you say, and you can neither turn it aside, nor find any help. Those of you who have done evil, We let them taste a great punishment.

Safi-ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri

Thus they will deny you in what you say; then you can neither avert nor find help. And whoever among you does wrong, We shall make him taste a great torment.

Wahiduddin Khan

[God will say], "Now, they have given the lie to all your assertions, and you can neither ward off [your punishment] nor obtain any help." For, whoever of you has committed evil, shall be caused by Us to taste great suffering!"

Talal Itani

They have denied you because of what you say; so you can neither avert, nor help. Whoever among you commits injustice, We will make him taste a grievous punishment.

Tafsir jalalayn

Thus they will deny you, that is, the ones who were worshipped denied those who worshipped [them], in what you allege, namely, that they are gods, and they will neither be able to (read yastat`na, or [second person plural] tastat`na) in other words, neither they nor you will be able to, circumvent, ward off the chastisement from you, nor help, nor protect you from it. And whoever of you does evil, [whoever] ascribes partners to God, We shall make him taste an awful, a severe, chastisement, in the Hereafter.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوكُم بِمَا تَقُولُونَ

Thus they will deny you because of what you say;

meaning, `those whom you used to worship besides Allah will show you to be liars in your claims that they were your helpers and protectors bringing you closer to Allah.'

This is like the Ayat;

وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّن يَدْعُو مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ مَن لاَّ يَسْتَجِيبُ لَهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَـمَةِ وَهُمْ عَن دُعَأيِهِمْ غَـفِلُونَ

وَإِذَا حُشِرَ النَّاسُ كَانُواْ لَهُمْ أَعْدَاءً وَكَانُواْ بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كَـفِرِينَ

And who is more astray than one who calls on besides Allah, such as will not answer him till the Day of Resurrection, and who are unaware of their calls to them. And when mankinds are gathered, they will become their enemies and will deny their worshipping. (46;5-6)

فَمَا تَسْتَطِيعُونَ صَرْفًا وَلَا نَصْرًا

then you can neither avert nor find help.

means;they will not be able to avert the punishment from themselves, nor will they be able to help themselves.

وَمَن يَظْلِم مِّنكُمْ

And whoever among you does wrong,

means by associating others in worship with Allah,

نُذِقْهُ عَذَابًا كَبِيرًا



We shall make him taste a great torment
