(The Light)

21

۞ يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَتَّبِعُوْا خُطُوٰتِ الشَّيْطٰنِۗ وَمَنْ يَّتَّبِعْ خُطُوٰتِ الشَّيْطٰنِ فَاِنَّهٗ يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاۤءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِۗ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهٗ مَا زَكٰى مِنْكُمْ مِّنْ اَحَدٍ اَبَدًاۙ وَّلٰكِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُزَكِّيْ مَنْ يَّشَاۤءُۗ وَاللّٰهُ سَمِيْعٌ عَلِيْمٌ ٢١

yāayyuhā
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you who believe!
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
O you who believe!
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
O you who believe!
لَا
(Do) not
tattabiʿū
تَتَّبِعُوا۟
follow
khuṭuwāti
خُطُوَٰتِ
(the) footsteps
l-shayṭāni
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِۚ
(of) the Shaitaan
waman
وَمَن
and whoever
yattabiʿ
يَتَّبِعْ
follows
khuṭuwāti
خُطُوَٰتِ
(the) footsteps
l-shayṭāni
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
(of) the Shaitaan
fa-innahu
فَإِنَّهُۥ
then indeed, he
yamuru
يَأْمُرُ
commands
bil-faḥshāi
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ
the immorality
wal-munkari
وَٱلْمُنكَرِۚ
and the evil
walawlā
وَلَوْلَا
And if not
faḍlu
فَضْلُ
(for the) Grace of Allah
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(for the) Grace of Allah
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
waraḥmatuhu
وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ
and His Mercy
مَا
not
zakā
زَكَىٰ
(would) have been pure
minkum
مِنكُم
among you
min
مِّنْ
anyone
aḥadin
أَحَدٍ
anyone
abadan
أَبَدًا
ever
walākinna
وَلَٰكِنَّ
but
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yuzakkī
يُزَكِّى
purifies
man
مَن
whom
yashāu
يَشَآءُۗ
He wills
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
samīʿun
سَمِيعٌ
(is) All-Hearer
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌ
All-Knower
O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan. And whoever follows the footsteps of Satan – indeed, he enjoins immorality and wrongdoing. And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills, and Allah is Hearing and Knowing. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 21)
Tafsir
22

وَلَا يَأْتَلِ اُولُو الْفَضْلِ مِنْكُمْ وَالسَّعَةِ اَنْ يُّؤْتُوْٓا اُولِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْمَسٰكِيْنَ وَالْمُهٰجِرِيْنَ فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ ۖوَلْيَعْفُوْا وَلْيَصْفَحُوْاۗ اَلَا تُحِبُّوْنَ اَنْ يَّغْفِرَ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ ۗوَاللّٰهُ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ٢٢

walā
وَلَا
And not
yatali
يَأْتَلِ
let swear
ulū
أُو۟لُوا۟
those of virtue
l-faḍli
ٱلْفَضْلِ
those of virtue
minkum
مِنكُمْ
among you
wal-saʿati
وَٱلسَّعَةِ
and the amplitude of means
an
أَن
that
yu'tū
يُؤْتُوٓا۟
they give
ulī
أُو۟لِى
(to) the near of kin
l-qur'bā
ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ
(to) the near of kin
wal-masākīna
وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَ
and the needy
wal-muhājirīna
وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ
and the emigrants
فِى
in
sabīli
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۖ
(of) Allah
walyaʿfū
وَلْيَعْفُوا۟
And let them pardon
walyaṣfaḥū
وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ۗ
and let them overlook
alā
أَلَا
(Do) not
tuḥibbūna
تُحِبُّونَ
you like
an
أَن
that
yaghfira
يَغْفِرَ
Allah should forgive
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah should forgive
lakum
لَكُمْۗ
you?
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ghafūrun
غَفُورٌ
(is) Oft-Forgiving
raḥīmun
رَّحِيمٌ
Most Merciful
And let not those of virtue among you and wealth swear not to give [aid] to their relatives and the needy and the emigrants for the cause of Allah, and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 22)
Tafsir
23

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ يَرْمُوْنَ الْمُحْصَنٰتِ الْغٰفِلٰتِ الْمُؤْمِنٰتِ لُعِنُوْا فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيْمٌ ۙ ٢٣

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
yarmūna
يَرْمُونَ
accuse
l-muḥ'ṣanāti
ٱلْمُحْصَنَٰتِ
the chaste women
l-ghāfilāti
ٱلْغَٰفِلَٰتِ
the unaware women
l-mu'mināti
ٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ
(and) the believing women
luʿinū
لُعِنُوا۟
are cursed
فِى
in
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the world
wal-ākhirati
وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
and the Hereafter
walahum
وَلَهُمْ
And for them
ʿadhābun
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
ʿaẓīmun
عَظِيمٌ
great
Indeed, those who [falsely] accuse chaste, unaware and believing women are cursed in this world and the Hereafter; and they will have a great punishment. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 23)
Tafsir
24

يَّوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ اَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَاَيْدِيْهِمْ وَاَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ٢٤

yawma
يَوْمَ
(On a) Day
tashhadu
تَشْهَدُ
will bear witness
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
against them
alsinatuhum
أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ
their tongues
wa-aydīhim
وَأَيْدِيهِمْ
and their hands
wa-arjuluhum
وَأَرْجُلُهُم
and their feet
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
(to) do
On a Day when their tongues, their hands and their feet will bear witness against them as to what they used to do. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 24)
Tafsir
25

يَوْمَىِٕذٍ يُّوَفِّيْهِمُ اللّٰهُ دِيْنَهُمُ الْحَقَّ وَيَعْلَمُوْنَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِيْنُ ٢٥

yawma-idhin
يَوْمَئِذٍ
That Day
yuwaffīhimu
يُوَفِّيهِمُ
Allah will pay them in full
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah will pay them in full
dīnahumu
دِينَهُمُ
their recompense
l-ḥaqa
ٱلْحَقَّ
the due
wayaʿlamūna
وَيَعْلَمُونَ
and they will know
anna
أَنَّ
that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-ḥaqu
ٱلْحَقُّ
(is) the Truth
l-mubīnu
ٱلْمُبِينُ
the Manifest
That Day, Allah will pay them in full their true [i.e., deserved] recompense, and they will know that it is Allah who is the manifest Truth [i.e., perfect in justice]. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 25)
Tafsir
26

اَلْخَبِيْثٰتُ لِلْخَبِيْثِيْنَ وَالْخَبِيْثُوْنَ لِلْخَبِيْثٰتِۚ وَالطَّيِّبٰتُ لِلطَّيِّبِيْنَ وَالطَّيِّبُوْنَ لِلطَّيِّبٰتِۚ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ مُبَرَّءُوْنَ مِمَّا يَقُوْلُوْنَۗ لَهُمْ مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَّرِزْقٌ كَرِيْمٌ ࣖ ٢٦

al-khabīthātu
ٱلْخَبِيثَٰتُ
Evil women
lil'khabīthīna
لِلْخَبِيثِينَ
(are) for evil men
wal-khabīthūna
وَٱلْخَبِيثُونَ
and evil men
lil'khabīthāti
لِلْخَبِيثَٰتِۖ
(are) for evil women
wal-ṭayibātu
وَٱلطَّيِّبَٰتُ
And good women
lilṭṭayyibīna
لِلطَّيِّبِينَ
(are) for good men
wal-ṭayibūna
وَٱلطَّيِّبُونَ
and good men
lilṭṭayyibāti
لِلطَّيِّبَٰتِۚ
(are) for good women
ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
mubarraūna
مُبَرَّءُونَ
(are) innocent
mimmā
مِمَّا
of what
yaqūlūna
يَقُولُونَۖ
they say
lahum
لَهُم
For them
maghfiratun
مَّغْفِرَةٌ
(is) forgiveness
wariz'qun
وَرِزْقٌ
and a provision
karīmun
كَرِيمٌ
noble
Evil words are for evil men, and evil men are [subjected] to evil words. And good words are for good men, and good men are [an object] of good words. Those [good people] are declared innocent of what they [i.e., slanderers] say. For them is forgiveness and noble provision. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 26)
Tafsir
27

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَدْخُلُوْا بُيُوْتًا غَيْرَ بُيُوْتِكُمْ حَتّٰى تَسْتَأْنِسُوْا وَتُسَلِّمُوْا عَلٰٓى اَهْلِهَاۗ ذٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُوْنَ ٢٧

yāayyuhā
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe!
لَا
(Do) not
tadkhulū
تَدْخُلُوا۟
enter
buyūtan
بُيُوتًا
houses
ghayra
غَيْرَ
other (than)
buyūtikum
بُيُوتِكُمْ
your houses
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
tastanisū
تَسْتَأْنِسُوا۟
you have asked permission
watusallimū
وَتُسَلِّمُوا۟
and you have greeted
ʿalā
عَلَىٰٓ
[on]
ahlihā
أَهْلِهَاۚ
its inhabitants
dhālikum
ذَٰلِكُمْ
That
khayrun
خَيْرٌ
(is) best
lakum
لَّكُمْ
for you
laʿallakum
لَعَلَّكُمْ
so that you may
tadhakkarūna
تَذَكَّرُونَ
pay heed
O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own houses until you ascertain welcome and greet their inhabitants. That is best for you; perhaps you will be reminded [i.e., advised]. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 27)
Tafsir
28

فَاِنْ لَّمْ تَجِدُوْا فِيْهَآ اَحَدًا فَلَا تَدْخُلُوْهَا حَتّٰى يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ وَاِنْ قِيْلَ لَكُمُ ارْجِعُوْا فَارْجِعُوْا هُوَ اَزْكٰى لَكُمْ ۗوَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ عَلِيْمٌ ٢٨

fa-in
فَإِن
But if
lam
لَّمْ
not
tajidū
تَجِدُوا۟
you find
fīhā
فِيهَآ
in it
aḥadan
أَحَدًا
anyone
falā
فَلَا
then (do) not
tadkhulūhā
تَدْخُلُوهَا
enter it
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
yu'dhana
يُؤْذَنَ
permission has been given
lakum
لَكُمْۖ
to you
wa-in
وَإِن
And if
qīla
قِيلَ
it is said
lakumu
لَكُمُ
to you
ir'jiʿū
ٱرْجِعُوا۟
"Go back"
fa-ir'jiʿū
فَٱرْجِعُوا۟ۖ
then go back;
huwa
هُوَ
it
azkā
أَزْكَىٰ
(is) purer
lakum
لَكُمْۚ
for you
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knower
And if you do not find anyone therein, do not enter them until permission has been given you. And if it is said to you, "Go back," then go back; it is purer for you. And Allah is Knowing of what you do. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 28)
Tafsir
29

لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ اَنْ تَدْخُلُوْا بُيُوْتًا غَيْرَ مَسْكُوْنَةٍ فِيْهَا مَتَاعٌ لَّكُمْۗ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُوْنَ وَمَا تَكْتُمُوْنَ ٢٩

laysa
لَّيْسَ
Not
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُمْ
upon you
junāḥun
جُنَاحٌ
(is) any blame
an
أَن
that
tadkhulū
تَدْخُلُوا۟
you enter
buyūtan
بُيُوتًا
houses
ghayra
غَيْرَ
not
maskūnatin
مَسْكُونَةٍ
inhabited
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
matāʿun
مَتَٰعٌ
(is) a provision
lakum
لَّكُمْۚ
for you
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
yaʿlamu
يَعْلَمُ
knows
مَا
what
tub'dūna
تُبْدُونَ
you reveal
wamā
وَمَا
and what
taktumūna
تَكْتُمُونَ
you conceal
There is no blame upon you for entering houses not inhabited in which there is convenience for you. And Allah knows what you reveal and what you conceal. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 29)
Tafsir
30

قُلْ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ يَغُضُّوْا مِنْ اَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوْا فُرُوْجَهُمْۗ ذٰلِكَ اَزْكٰى لَهُمْۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ خَبِيْرٌۢ بِمَا يَصْنَعُوْنَ ٣٠

qul
قُل
Say
lil'mu'minīna
لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
to the believing men
yaghuḍḍū
يَغُضُّوا۟
they should lower
min
مِنْ
their gaze
abṣārihim
أَبْصَٰرِهِمْ
their gaze
wayaḥfaẓū
وَيَحْفَظُوا۟
and they should guard
furūjahum
فُرُوجَهُمْۚ
their chastity
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
azkā
أَزْكَىٰ
(is) purer
lahum
لَهُمْۗ
for them
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
khabīrun
خَبِيرٌۢ
(is) All-Aware
bimā
بِمَا
of what
yaṣnaʿūna
يَصْنَعُونَ
they do
Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is [fully] Aware of what they do. (QS. [24] An-Nur: 30)
