Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Mu'minun Verse 89

Al-Mu'minun [23]: 89 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

سَيَقُوْلُوْنَ لِلّٰهِ ۗقُلْ فَاَنّٰى تُسْحَرُوْنَ (المؤمنون : ٢٣)

sayaqūlūna
سَيَقُولُونَ
They will say
lillahi
لِلَّهِۚ
"Allah"
qul
قُلْ
Say
fa-annā
فَأَنَّىٰ
"Then how
tus'ḥarūna
تُسْحَرُونَ
are you deluded?"

Transliteration:

Sa yaqooloona lillaah; qul fa annaa tus haroon (QS. al-Muʾminūn:89)

English / Sahih Translation:

They will say, "[All belongs] to Allah." Say, "Then how are you deluded?" (QS. Al-Mu'minun, ayah 89)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They will say, “(All this belongs) to Allah.” Say, “Then by which magic are you drawn crazy?”

They will reply, “Allah.” Say, “How are you then so deluded?”

They will say: "God's." Say: "Then why are you so deluded?"

Thereupon they will say, “Such greatness is only that of Allah”; say, “Then by what magic are you deceived?”

They will say, ‘[They all belong] to Allah.’ Say, ‘Then how are you so deluded?’

They could not help but acknowledge: "God exclusively." Say: "How, then, can you be so deluded?"

They will indeed say, `All these (attributes) belong to Allâh.´ Say, `How and whither are you then being led away?´

English Literal

They will say: "To God," Say: "So how (do) you be bewitched/enchanted/corrupted ?"

Thereupon they will say, "Such greatness is only that of Allah"; say, "Then by what magic are you deceived?"

Say, "In whose hand is the dominion over all things; He succours (or protects) but is not succoured (or needs no protection or against whom there is no protection), if you did but know?"

They will say: "(All that belongs) to Allah." Say: "How then are you deceived and turn away from the truth?"

Say: Who is it in Whose hand is the kingdom of all things and He protects, and none is protected against Him, if you know?

They will say: "(All that belongs) to Allah." Say: "How then are you deceived and turn away from the truth"

They will say, "All this belongs to God." Say to them, "How are you then deluded?"

They will say, “To God.” Say, “Then are you bewitched?”

Tafsir jalalayn

They will say, `God.' (a variant reading [for Allh, `God'] in both instances [verses 87 and 89] has li'Llh, `to God', which is in keeping with the sense of `to whom belongs what has been mentioned?'). Say; `How then are you bewitched?', [how then] are you duped and turned away from the truth, the worship of God alone, in other words, `How do you envisage [all] this to be invalid?'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ

They will say;"(All that belongs) to Allah."

means, they will admit that the Almighty Master Who protects all while against Him there is no protector is Allah Alone, with no partner or associate.

قُلْ فَأَنَّى تُسْحَرُونَ



Say;"How then are you deceived and turn away from the truth!"

means, how can your minds accept the idea of worshipping others besides Him when you recognize and acknowledge that!
