Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Mu'minun Verse 118
Al-Mu'minun [23]: 118 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَقُلْ رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرّٰحِمِيْنَ ࣖ (المؤمنون : ٢٣)
- waqul
- وَقُل
- And say
- rabbi
- رَّبِّ
- "My Lord!
- igh'fir
- ٱغْفِرْ
- Forgive
- wa-ir'ḥam
- وَٱرْحَمْ
- and have mercy
- wa-anta
- وَأَنتَ
- and You
- khayru
- خَيْرُ
- (are the) Best
- l-rāḥimīna
- ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
- (of) those who show mercy
Transliteration:
Wa qur Rabbigh fir warham wa Anta khairur raahimeen(QS. al-Muʾminūn:118)
English / Sahih Translation:
And, [O Muhammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful." (QS. Al-Mu'minun, ayah 118)

And say; `My Lord, forgive and have mercy, on believers -- [this] `mercy' adds to the `forgiveness' [in terms of God's grace] -- and You are the best of the merciful', the most excellent of those who have mercy. Medinese, consisting of 62 or 64 verses.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَقُل
And say;
رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
My Lord!
Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy!
Here Allah is teaching us to recite this supplication, for forgiveness, in a general sense, means wiping away sins and concealing them from people, and mercy means guiding a person and helping him to say and do good things.
This is the end of the Tafsir of Surah Al-Mu'minun. All praise and thanks are due to Allah.
