Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Hajj Verse 51

Al-Hajj [22]: 51 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَالَّذِيْنَ سَعَوْا فِيْٓ اٰيٰتِنَا مُعٰجِزِيْنَ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ اَصْحٰبُ الْجَحِيْمِ (الحج : ٢٢)

wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
And those who
saʿaw
سَعَوْا۟
strove
فِىٓ
against
āyātinā
ءَايَٰتِنَا
Our Verses
muʿājizīna
مُعَٰجِزِينَ
(to) cause failure
ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
those
aṣḥābu
أَصْحَٰبُ
(are the) companions
l-jaḥīmi
ٱلْجَحِيمِ
(of) the Hellfire

Transliteration:

Wallazeena sa'aw feee Aayaatinaa mu'aajizeena ulaaa ika As-haabul jaheem (QS. al-Ḥajj:51)

English / Sahih Translation:

But the ones who strove against Our verses, [seeking] to cause failure – those are the companions of Hellfire. (QS. Al-Hajj, ayah 51)

As for those who strive against Our signs, trying to defeat (the prophet or the believers), they are the people of the Fire.”

Tafsir jalalayn

But those who strive against Our signs, namely, the Qur'n, in order to invalidate them, seeking to incapacitate (mu`ajjizna) those who follow the Prophet ([this meaning of mu`ajjizna] being derived from their assumption that these [followers] are incapable individuals) and impeding them from [practising their] faith; or [mu`ajjizna means] supposing Us to be incapable against them (a variant reading [of mu`ajjizna] has mu`jizna, meaning, `contending with Us') that is to say, they suppose that they will [be able to] elude Us by denying resurrection and requital -- those, they shall be the inhabitants of hell-fire.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَالَّذِينَ سَعَوْا فِي ايَاتِنَا مُعَاجِزِينَ

But those who strive against Our Ayat to frustrate them,

Mujahid said,

"To discourage people from following the Prophet."

This was also the view of Abdullah bin Az-Zubayr, "to discourage."

Ibn Abbas said,

"To frustrate them means to resist the believers stubbornly."

أُوْلَيِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَحِيمِ



they will be dwellers of the Hellfire.

This refers to the agonizingly hot Fire with its severe punishment, may Allah save us from it.

Allah says;

الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَصَدُّواْ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ زِدْنَـهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ الْعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُواْ يُفْسِدُونَ

Those who disbelieved and hinder (men) from the path of Allah, for them We will add torment to the torment because they used to spread corruption. (16;88
