Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Hajj Verse 32

Al-Hajj [22]: 32 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ذٰلِكَ وَمَنْ يُّعَظِّمْ شَعَاۤىِٕرَ اللّٰهِ فَاِنَّهَا مِنْ تَقْوَى الْقُلُوْبِ (الحج : ٢٢)

ٱلْقُلُوبِ
(of) the hearts

Transliteration:

Zaalika wa mai yu'azzim sha'aaa'iral laahi fa innahaa min taqwal quloob (QS. al-Ḥajj:32)

English / Sahih Translation:

That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols [i.e., rites] of Allah – indeed, it is from the piety of hearts. (QS. Al-Hajj, ayah 32)

Having said that, if one observes the sanctity of the symbols of Allah, then such things emanate from the piety of the hearts.

That is so. And whoever honours the symbols of Allah, it is certainly out of the piety of the heart.

Such is the fact. And whoso venerates the sanctity of all that have been ordained as symbols of Allah surely does so because it is part of the true piety of the hearts.

All this, and honouring the offerings to God, comes from purity of heart.

So it is; and whoever reveres the symbols of Allah – this is then part of the piety of the hearts.

That. And whoever venerates the sacraments of Allah—indeed that arises from the Godwariness of hearts.

That (is the truth itself). And whoever venerates the public symbols and rituals set up by God (such as Jumu‘ah and ‘Id Prayers, call to the Prayer, Sacrifice, and the rites of the Pilgrimage), surely it is because of the true piety and God-consciousness of their hearts.

That is (the law which you should bear in mind). He who respects Symbols appointed by Allâh, will find that this (respect) proceeds from and leads to the piety of hearts.

English Literal

That and who magnifies/makes great God`s methods/ways of worship, so that it truly is from the hearts`/minds` fearing/obedience of God.

Turning unto Allah only, not associating aught with Him; for he who associates aught with Allah, it is as though he had fallen from heaven, and the birds snatch him up, or the wind blows him away into a far distant place.

Thus it is [what has been mentioned in the above said Verses (27, 28, 29, 30, 31) is an obligation that mankind owes to Allah]. And whosoever honours the Symbols of Allah, then it is truly from the piety of the heart.

Being unright for Allah, not associated aught with Him. And whoever associates (aught) with Allah, it is as if he had fallen from on high, then the birds had snatched him away, or the wind had carried him off to a distant place.

Thus it is. He who honours the symbols set up by God shows the piety of his heart.

Talal Itani

So it is. Whoever venerates the sacraments of God—it is from the piety of the hearts.

Tafsir jalalayn

That (dhlika, an implied subject, al-amru, `the matter [is]', is taken to precede this [predicate]). And whoever venerates the sacraments of God, then that, in other words, then that veneration of them -- namely, [of] the beasts of sacrifice offered in the Sanctuary, after the best of them have been selected and fattened -- derives from the piety of the hearts, of those individuals. These [sacraments] are called sha`'ir because they are marked out [ish`r] with something to indicate that they are offerings, such as having a hump pierced with a piece of metal.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Explanation of the Udhiyyah and the Sha`a'ir of Allah

Allah says;

ذَلِكَ

Thus it is,

وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَايِرَ اللَّهِ

and whosoever honors the Sha`a'ir of Allah,

means, His commands.

فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى الْقُلُوبِ



then it is truly from the Taqwa of the hearts.

This also includes obeying His commands in the best way when it comes to offering sacrifices, as Al-Hakam said narrating from Miqsam, from Ibn Abbas;

"Honoring them means choosing fat, healthy animals (for sacrifice)."

Abu Umamah bin Sahl said;

"We used to fatten the Udhiyyah in Al-Madinah, and the Muslims used to fatten them."

This was recorded by Al-Bukhari.

In Sunan Ibn Majah, it was recorded from Abu Rafi` that the Messenger of Allah sacrificed two castrated, fat, horned rams.

Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah recorded from Jabir;

"The Messenger of Allah sacrificed two castrated, fat, horned rams."

It was said,

"The Messenger of Allah commanded us to examine their eyes and ears, and not to sacrifice the Muqabilah, the Mudabirah, the Sharqa, nor the Kharqa'."

This was recorded by Ahmad and the Sunan compilers, and At-Tirmidhi graded it Sahih.

As for the Muqabilah, it is the one whose ear is cut at the front,
Mudabirah is the one whose ear is cut at the back,

the Shurqa is the one whose ear is split, as Ash-Shafi`i said.

The Kharqa' is the one whose ear is pierced with a hole.

And Allah knows best.

It was recorded that Al-Bara' said,

"The Messenger of Allah said;

أَرْبَعٌ لَاتَجُوزُ فِي الاَْضَاحِي

الْعَوْرَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ عَوَرُهَا

وَالْمَرِيضَةُ الْبَيِّنُ مَرَضُهَا

وَالْعَرْجَاءُ الْبَيِّنُ ظَلَعُهَا

وَالْكَسِيرَةُ الَّتِي لَااتُنْقِي

Four are not permitted for sacrifice;

those that are obviously one-eyed,

those that are obviously sick,

those that are obviously lame and

those that have broken bones, which no one would choose.

This was recorded by Ahmad and the Sunan compilers, and At-Tirmidhi graded it Sahih.
