Surah Al-Hajj - Page: 2

(The Pilgrimage)

11

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَّعْبُدُ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى حَرْفٍۚ فَاِنْ اَصَابَهٗ خَيْرُ ِۨاطْمَـَٔنَّ بِهٖۚ وَاِنْ اَصَابَتْهُ فِتْنَةُ ِۨانْقَلَبَ عَلٰى وَجْهِهٖۗ خَسِرَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةَۗ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الْخُسْرَانُ الْمُبِيْنُ ١١

wamina
وَمِنَ
And among
l-nāsi
ٱلنَّاسِ
the mankind
man
مَن
(is he) who
yaʿbudu
يَعْبُدُ
worships
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
on
ḥarfin
حَرْفٍۖ
an edge
fa-in
فَإِنْ
And if
aṣābahu
أَصَابَهُۥ
befalls him
khayrun
خَيْرٌ
good
iṭ'ma-anna
ٱطْمَأَنَّ
he is content
bihi
بِهِۦۖ
with it
wa-in
وَإِنْ
and if
aṣābathu
أَصَابَتْهُ
befalls him
fit'natun
فِتْنَةٌ
a trial
inqalaba
ٱنقَلَبَ
he turns
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
on
wajhihi
وَجْهِهِۦ
his face
khasira
خَسِرَ
He has lost
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the world
wal-ākhirata
وَٱلْءَاخِرَةَۚ
and the Hereafter
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
huwa
هُوَ
[it]
l-khus'rānu
ٱلْخُسْرَانُ
(is) the loss
l-mubīnu
ٱلْمُبِينُ
clear
And of the people is he who worships Allah on an edge. If he is touched by good, he is reassured by it; but if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face [to unbelief]. He has lost [this] world and the Hereafter. That is what is the manifest loss. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 11)
Tafsir
12

يَدْعُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهٗ وَمَا لَا يَنْفَعُهٗۗ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الضَّلٰلُ الْبَعِيْدُ ۚ ١٢

yadʿū
يَدْعُوا۟
He calls
min
مِن
besides
dūni
دُونِ
besides
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
مَا
what
لَا
not
yaḍurruhu
يَضُرُّهُۥ
harms him
wamā
وَمَا
and what
لَا
not
yanfaʿuhu
يَنفَعُهُۥۚ
benefits him
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
huwa
هُوَ
[it]
l-ḍalālu
ٱلضَّلَٰلُ
(is) the straying
l-baʿīdu
ٱلْبَعِيدُ
far away
He invokes instead of Allah that which neither harms him nor benefits him. That is what is the extreme error. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 12)
Tafsir
13

يَدْعُوْا لَمَنْ ضَرُّهٗٓ اَقْرَبُ مِنْ نَّفْعِهٖۗ لَبِئْسَ الْمَوْلٰى وَلَبِئْسَ الْعَشِيْرُ ١٣

yadʿū
يَدْعُوا۟
He calls
laman
لَمَن
(one) who -
ḍarruhu
ضَرُّهُۥٓ
his harm
aqrabu
أَقْرَبُ
(is) closer
min
مِن
than
nafʿihi
نَّفْعِهِۦۚ
his benefit
labi'sa
لَبِئْسَ
Surely an evil
l-mawlā
ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ
protector
walabi'sa
وَلَبِئْسَ
and surely an evil
l-ʿashīru
ٱلْعَشِيرُ
friend!
He invokes one whose harm is closer than his benefit – how wretched the protector and how wretched the associate. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 13)
Tafsir
14

اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُدْخِلُ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ جَنّٰتٍ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيْدُ ١٤

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yud'khilu
يُدْخِلُ
will admit
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe
waʿamilū
وَعَمِلُوا۟
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
the righteous deeds
jannātin
جَنَّٰتٍ
(to) Gardens
tajrī
تَجْرِى
flow
min
مِن
from
taḥtihā
تَحْتِهَا
underneath it
l-anhāru
ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُۚ
the rivers
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yafʿalu
يَفْعَلُ
does
مَا
what
yurīdu
يُرِيدُ
He intends
Indeed, Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow. Indeed, Allah does what He intends. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 14)
Tafsir
15

مَنْ كَانَ يَظُنُّ اَنْ لَّنْ يَّنْصُرَهُ اللّٰهُ فِى الدُّنْيَا وَالْاٰخِرَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ بِسَبَبٍ اِلَى السَّمَاۤءِ ثُمَّ لْيَقْطَعْ فَلْيَنْظُرْ هَلْ يُذْهِبَنَّ كَيْدُهٗ مَا يَغِيْظُ ١٥

man
مَن
Whoever
kāna
كَانَ
[is]
yaẓunnu
يَظُنُّ
thinks
an
أَن
that
lan
لَّن
not
yanṣurahu
يَنصُرَهُ
Allah will help him
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah will help him
فِى
in
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
the world
wal-ākhirati
وَٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
and the Hereafter
falyamdud
فَلْيَمْدُدْ
then let him extend
bisababin
بِسَبَبٍ
a rope
ilā
إِلَى
to
l-samāi
ٱلسَّمَآءِ
the sky
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
l'yaqṭaʿ
لْيَقْطَعْ
let him cut off
falyanẓur
فَلْيَنظُرْ
then let him see
hal
هَلْ
whether
yudh'hibanna
يُذْهِبَنَّ
will remove
kayduhu
كَيْدُهُۥ
his plan
مَا
what
yaghīẓu
يَغِيظُ
enrages
Whoever should think that Allah will not support him [i.e., Prophet Muhammad (^)] in this world and the Hereafter – let him extend a rope to the ceiling, then cut off [his breath], and let him see: will his effort remove that which enrages [him]? (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 15)
Tafsir
16

وَكَذٰلِكَ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ اٰيٰتٍۢ بَيِّنٰتٍۙ وَّاَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَهْدِيْ مَنْ يُّرِيْدُ ١٦

wakadhālika
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
anzalnāhu
أَنزَلْنَٰهُ
We sent it down
āyātin
ءَايَٰتٍۭ
(as) clear Verses
bayyinātin
بَيِّنَٰتٍ
(as) clear Verses
wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
and that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yahdī
يَهْدِى
guides
man
مَن
whom
yurīdu
يُرِيدُ
He intends
And thus have We sent it [i.e., the Quran] down as verses of clear evidence and because Allah guides whom He intends. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 16)
Tafsir
17

اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَالَّذِيْنَ هَادُوْا وَالصَّابِـِٕيْنَ وَالنَّصٰرٰى وَالْمَجُوْسَ وَالَّذِيْنَ اَشْرَكُوْٓا ۖاِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيْدٌ ١٧

inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
have believed
wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those who
hādū
هَادُوا۟
were Jews
wal-ṣābiīna
وَٱلصَّٰبِـِٔينَ
and the Sabians
wal-naṣārā
وَٱلنَّصَٰرَىٰ
and the Christians
wal-majūsa
وَٱلْمَجُوسَ
and the Majus
wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those who
ashrakū
أَشْرَكُوٓا۟
(are) polytheists
inna
إِنَّ
indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yafṣilu
يَفْصِلُ
will judge
baynahum
بَيْنَهُمْ
between them
yawma
يَوْمَ
(on) the Day
l-qiyāmati
ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِۚ
(of) the Resurrection
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
kulli
كُلِّ
every
shayin
شَىْءٍ
thing
shahīdun
شَهِيدٌ
(is) a Witness
Indeed, those who have believed and those who were Jews and the Sabeans and the Christians and the Magians and those who associated with Allah – Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allah is, over all things, Witness. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 17)
Tafsir
18

اَلَمْ تَرَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يَسْجُدُ لَهٗ مَنْ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَنْ فِى الْاَرْضِ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ وَالنُّجُوْمُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَالشَّجَرُ وَالدَّوَاۤبُّ وَكَثِيْرٌ مِّنَ النَّاسِۗ وَكَثِيْرٌ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ الْعَذَابُۗ وَمَنْ يُّهِنِ اللّٰهُ فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ مُّكْرِمٍۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاۤءُ ۩ۗ ١٨

أَلَمْ
Do not
tara
تَرَ
you see
anna
أَنَّ
that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yasjudu
يَسْجُدُ
prostrates
lahu
لَهُۥ
to Him
man
مَن
whoever
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
waman
وَمَن
and whoever
فِى
(is) in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
wal-shamsu
وَٱلشَّمْسُ
and the sun
wal-qamaru
وَٱلْقَمَرُ
and the moon
wal-nujūmu
وَٱلنُّجُومُ
and the stars
wal-jibālu
وَٱلْجِبَالُ
and the mountains
wal-shajaru
وَٱلشَّجَرُ
and the trees
wal-dawābu
وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ
and the moving creatures
wakathīrun
وَكَثِيرٌ
and many
mina
مِّنَ
of
l-nāsi
ٱلنَّاسِۖ
the people?
wakathīrun
وَكَثِيرٌ
But many
ḥaqqa
حَقَّ
(is) justly due
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
on him
l-ʿadhābu
ٱلْعَذَابُۗ
the punishment
waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yuhini
يُهِنِ
Allah humiliates
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah humiliates
famā
فَمَا
then not
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
min
مِن
any
muk'rimin
مُّكْرِمٍۚ
bestower of honor
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yafʿalu
يَفْعَلُ
does
مَا
what
yashāu
يَشَآءُ۩
He wills
Do you not see [i.e., know] that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allah humiliates – for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allah does what He wills. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 18)
Tafsir
19

۞ هٰذَانِ خَصْمٰنِ اخْتَصَمُوْا فِيْ رَبِّهِمْ فَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا قُطِّعَتْ لَهُمْ ثِيَابٌ مِّنْ نَّارٍۗ يُصَبُّ مِنْ فَوْقِ رُءُوْسِهِمُ الْحَمِيْمُ ۚ ١٩

hādhāni
هَٰذَانِ
These two
khaṣmāni
خَصْمَانِ
opponents
ikh'taṣamū
ٱخْتَصَمُوا۟
dispute
فِى
concerning
rabbihim
رَبِّهِمْۖ
their Lord
fa-alladhīna
فَٱلَّذِينَ
But those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
quṭṭiʿat
قُطِّعَتْ
will be cut out
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
thiyābun
ثِيَابٌ
garments
min
مِّن
of
nārin
نَّارٍ
fire
yuṣabbu
يُصَبُّ
Will be poured
min
مِن
over
fawqi
فَوْقِ
over
ruūsihimu
رُءُوسِهِمُ
their heads
l-ḥamīmu
ٱلْحَمِيمُ
[the] scalding water
These are two adversaries who have disputed over their Lord. But those who disbelieved will have cut out for them garments of fire. Poured upon their heads will be scalding water (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 19)
Tafsir
20

يُصْهَرُ بِهٖ مَا فِيْ بُطُوْنِهِمْ وَالْجُلُوْدُ ۗ ٢٠

yuṣ'haru
يُصْهَرُ
Will be melted
bihi
بِهِۦ
with it
مَا
what
فِى
(is) in
buṭūnihim
بُطُونِهِمْ
their bellies
wal-julūdu
وَٱلْجُلُودُ
and the skins
By which is melted that within their bellies and [their] skins. (QS. [22] Al-Hajj: 20)
