Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Anbya Verse 9

Then We caused the promise to come true for them, so We saved them and those whom We willed, and destroyed the transgressors.

Then We fulfilled to them the promise, to deliver them. So We delivered them and whomever We would, [of] those who believed in them, and We destroyed the prodigal, those who denied them.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ

Then We fulfilled to them the promise.

the promise that their Lord made to destroy the evildoers. Allah fulfilled His promise and did that.

He says;

فَأَنجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَاء

So We saved them and those whom We willed,

meaning, their followers among the believers,

وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ



but We destroyed Al-Musrifin.

meaning, those who disbelieved the Message brought by the Messengers
