Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Anbya Verse 83

Al-Anbya [21]: 83 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

۞ وَاَيُّوْبَ اِذْ نَادٰى رَبَّهٗٓ اَنِّيْ مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَاَنْتَ اَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ ۚ (الأنبياء : ٢١)

wa-ayyūba
وَأَيُّوبَ
And Ayub

رَبَّهُۥٓ
(to) his Lord
annī
أَنِّى
"Indeed [I]
massaniya
مَسَّنِىَ
has touched me
l-ḍuru
ٱلضُّرُّ
the adversity
wa-anta
وَأَنتَ
and You
arḥamu
أَرْحَمُ
(are) Most Merciful
l-rāḥimīna
ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
(of) the Merciful"

Transliteration:

Wa Ayyooba iz naadaa Rabbahooo annee massaniyad durru wa Anta arhamur raahimeen (QS. al-ʾAnbiyāʾ:83)

English / Sahih Translation:

And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful." (QS. Al-Anbya, ayah 83)

And (remember) Ayyūb (Job), when he called his Lord saying, “Here I am, afflicted by pain and You are the most merciful of all the merciful.”

Tafsir jalalayn

And, mention, Job (Ayyba, is substituted by [the following, idh nd rabbahu ...]) when he called out to his Lord -- after he had been afflicted with the loss of all of his possessions and children, the laceration of his body, his being shunned by all except his wife, for a period of thirteen, seventeen, or eighteen years, as well as [the affliction of enduring] a straitened means of livelihood -- `Indeed (read ann because of the implicit y' [of the first person pronoun]) harm, adversity, has befallen me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful'.

The Prophet Ayub

Allah tells;

وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ




فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِ مِن ضُرٍّ

And (remember) Ayub, when he cried to his Lord;"Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy."
