Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Anbya Verse 74

Al-Anbya [21]: 74 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلُوْطًا اٰتَيْنٰهُ حُكْمًا وَّعِلْمًا وَّنَجَّيْنٰهُ مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِيْ كَانَتْ تَّعْمَلُ الْخَبٰۤىِٕثَ ۗاِنَّهُمْ كَانُوْا قَوْمَ سَوْءٍ فٰسِقِيْنَۙ (الأنبياء : ٢١)

walūṭan
وَلُوطًا
And (to) Lut
ātaynāhu
ءَاتَيْنَٰهُ
We gave him
ḥuk'man
حُكْمًا
judgment
waʿil'man
وَعِلْمًا
and knowledge
wanajjaynāhu
وَنَجَّيْنَٰهُ
and We saved him
mina
مِنَ
from
l-qaryati
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ
the town
allatī
ٱلَّتِى
which
kānat
كَانَت
was
taʿmalu
تَّعْمَلُ
doing
l-khabāitha
ٱلْخَبَٰٓئِثَۗ
wicked deeds
innahum
إِنَّهُمْ
Indeed they
kānū
كَانُوا۟
were
qawma
قَوْمَ
a people
sawin
سَوْءٍ
evil
fāsiqīna
فَٰسِقِينَ
defiantly disobedient

Transliteration:

Wa Lootan aatainaahu hukmanw wa 'ilmanw wa najjainaahu minal qaryatil latee kaanat ta'malul khabaaa'is; innahum kaanoo qawma saw'in faasiqeen (QS. al-ʾAnbiyāʾ:74)

English / Sahih Translation:

And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. (QS. Al-Anbya, ayah 74)

As for LūT, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town that used to do dirty deeds. Indeed, they were the people of evil, the sinners.

And (We showed Our favours to) Lot, We gave him wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the people of the town who indulged in abominable practices. They were indeed wicked and lawless people.

English Literal

And Lot, We gave/brought him judgment/rule and knowledge, and We saved/rescued him from the village/urban city which was making/doing the bad/forbidden , that they truly were a bad/evil nation (of) debauchers .

And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah).

And (remember) Lut, We gave him wisdom and knowledge, and We saved him from the town who practised Al-Khaba'ith. Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were rebellious.

And Lot—We gave him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town that practiced the abominations. They were wicked and perverted people.

Tafsir jalalayn

And to Lot We gave judgement, the ability to judge decisively between opposing parties, and knowledge; and We delivered him from the town which had been committing, that is, whose inhabitants had been committing, deeds of, vileness, by way of homosexual intercourse, hazelnut-hurling and bird-games and other things. Truly they were a folk of evil [people] (saw' is the verbal noun of s'ahu, `he harmed him', the opposite of sarrahu, `he delighted him'), immoral.

وَأَدْخَلْنَاهُ فِي رَحْمَتِنَا إِنَّهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
