Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Anbya Verse 46
Al-Anbya [21]: 46 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَلَىِٕنْ مَّسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٌ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُوْلُنَّ يٰوَيْلَنَآ اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِمِيْنَ (الأنبياء : ٢١)
- wala-in
- وَلَئِن
- And if
- massathum
- مَّسَّتْهُمْ
- touches them
- nafḥatun
- نَفْحَةٌ
- a whiff
- min
- مِّنْ
- of
- ʿadhābi
- عَذَابِ
- (the) punishment
- rabbika
- رَبِّكَ
- (of) your Lord
- layaqūlunna
- لَيَقُولُنَّ
- surely they will say
- yāwaylanā
- يَٰوَيْلَنَآ
- "O woe to us!
- innā
- إِنَّا
- Indeed we
- kunnā
- كُنَّا
- [we] were
- ẓālimīna
- ظَٰلِمِينَ
- wrongdoers"
Transliteration:
Wa la'im massat hum nafhatum min 'azaabi Rabbika la yaqoolunna yaawailanaaa innnaa kunnaa zaalimeen(QS. al-ʾAnbiyāʾ:46)
English / Sahih Translation:
And if [as much as] a whiff of the punishment of your Lord should touch them, they would surely say, "O woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers." (QS. Al-Anbya, ayah 46)

If a whiff of your Lord’s torment were to touch them, they would certainly say, “Alas to us! We were wrongdoers indeed.”

Tafsir jalalayn
And if a whiff, a slight instance, of your Lord's chastisement were to touch them, they would indeed say, `O (y, used for drawing attention [to something]) woe for us!, [O this is] our destruction! Truly we were doing evil', in ascribing partners to God and denying [the Mission of] Muhammad (s).
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
And if a breath of the torment of your Lord touches them, they will surely, cry;"Woe unto us! Indeed we have been wrongdoers!"
If these disbelievers were affected by the slightest touch of Allah's punishment, they would confess their sins and admit that they had wronged themselves in this world
