Al-Qur'an Surah Taha Verse 84

Taha [20]: 84 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَ هُمْ اُولَاۤءِ عَلٰٓى اَثَرِيْ وَعَجِلْتُ اِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضٰى (طه : ٢٠)

that You be pleased"

Transliteration:

Qaala hum ulaaa'i 'alaaa asaree wa 'ajiltu ilaika Rabbi litardaa (QS. Ṭāʾ Hāʾ:84)

English / Sahih Translation:

He said, "They are close upon my tracks, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased." (QS. Taha, ayah 84)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

He said, “Here they are just behind me, and I hurried towards You, my Lord, so that You be pleased.”

He replied, “They are close on my tracks. And I have hastened to You, my Lord, so You will be pleased.”

He said, “They are following in my footsteps; and I hurried on to You, my Lord, that you may be pleased.”

Tafsir jalalayn

He said, `They are close, behind me, coming, upon my track, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You may be pleased', with me, in other words, to please you [even] more -- before [giving] the response, he gives an excuse, according to what he supposed [was the situation with his people],

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَ هُمْ أُولَااء عَلَى أَثَرِي

"And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa!"

He said;"They are close on my footsteps."

These means that they have arrived and are settled near the Mountain.

وَعَجِلْتُ إِلَيْكَ رَبِّ لِتَرْضَى



and I hastened to You, O my Lord, that You might be pleased.

meaning, "So You will be more pleased with me."

قَالَ فَإِنَّا قَدْ فَتَنَّا قَوْمَكَ مِن بَعْدِكَ وَأَضَلَّهُمُ السَّامِرِيُّ
