Al-Qur'an Surah Taha Verse 16

Taha [20]: 16 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَنْ لَّا يُؤْمِنُ بِهَا وَاتَّبَعَ هَوٰىهُ فَتَرْدٰى (طه : ٢٠)

falā

lest you perish

Transliteration:

Falaa yasuddannnaka 'anhaa mal laa yu'minu bihaa wattaba'a hawaahu fatardaa (QS. Ṭāʾ Hāʾ:16)

English / Sahih Translation:

So do not let one avert you from it who does not believe in it and follows his desire, for you [then] would perish. (QS. Taha, ayah 16)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

So the one who does not believe in it and follows his desires must not make you neglectful of it, otherwise you will perish.

Tafsir jalalayn

So do not let him bar you, distract you, from it, that is, from believing in it, who believes not in it but follows his own whim, in denying [the truth of] it, lest you perish, that is, lest you be ruined if you are barred from [remembering] it.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

فَلَ يَصُدَّنَّكَ عَنْهَا مَنْ لَا يُوْمِنُ بِهَا

Therefore, let not divert you the one who believes not therein,

The address here is directed towards all individuals who are responsible (and capable of taking heed to this message).

This means, "Do not follow the way of the person who does not believe in the Hour (Day of Judgement) and he only pursues his desires in this worldly life. He disobeys his Lord and only follows his desires. Whoever behaves like these people, then verily he has failed and lost.

وَاتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ فَتَرْدَى



but follows his own lusts, divert you therefrom, lest you perish."

فَتَرْدَى
(lest you perish),

This means that you will be destroyed and ruined.

وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُ إِذَا تَرَدَّى

And what will his wealth avail him when he goes down (in destruction)! (92;11
