Al-Qur'an Surah Taha Verse 123

Mufti Taqi Usmani

He said (to ’Ādam and Iblīs), “Go down from here, all of you, some of you enemies of some others. Then, should some guidance come to you from Me, the one who follows My guidance shall not go astray, nor shall he be in trouble.

Allah said, “Descend, both of you, from here together ˹with Satan˺ as enemies to each other. Then when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray ˹in this life˺ nor suffer ˹in the next˺.

Allah said, “Get down, both of you, from here altogether [with Satan] as enemies to one another. Then when there comes to you guidance from Me, whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray nor fall into misery.

and said: "Get down, both of you, (that is, man and Satan), and be out of it; each of you shall be an enemy to the other. Henceforth if there comes to you a guidance from Me, then whosoever follows My guidance shall neither go astray nor suffer misery.

We said: "Go down from here, the two of you, all together (with Satan, and henceforth you will live a life,) some of you being the enemies of others. If there comes to you from Me a guidance (like a Book through a Messenger), then whoever follows My guidance (and turns to Me with faith and worship), will not go astray, nor will he be unhappy.

(The Lord) said, `Go hence! both parties one and all, you being enemies one to another. There shall most certainly come to you guidance from Me, (bear in mind the law that) he who follows My guidance shall not be lost, nor shall he be unhappy.

English Literal

He said: "You (B) descend/drop from it all together , some of you to some (you are to each other) an enemy, so when guidance from Me comes to you, so who followed My guidance, so he does not become misguided and nor become miserable/unhappy.

He said, "Both of you go down from heaven, one of you is an enemy to the other; then if the guidance from Me comes to you - then whoever follows My guidance, will not go astray nor be ill-fated."

Tafsir jalalayn

He said, `Go down both of you, that is, Adam and Eve, including all of your progeny, from it, from the Garden, all together, some of you, some of the progeny, being enemies of others, because of some wronging others. Yet if (the nn of the conditional particle in has been assimilated with the m, which is extra) there should come to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, the Qur'n, shall not go astray, in this world, neither shall he be miserable, in the Hereafter.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

The Descent of Adam to the Earth and the Promise of Good for the Guided and Evil for the Transgressors

Allah says;

قَالَ اهْبِطَا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ

He (Allah) said;"Get you down, both of you, together, some of you are an enemy to some others.

Allah says to Adam, Hawwa' and Iblis, "Get down from here, all of you." This means each of you should get out of Paradise.

We expounded upon this in Surah Al-Baqarah.

بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ

Some of you as enemies to others. (2;36)

He (Allah) was saying this to Adam and his progeny and Iblis and his progeny.

Concerning Allah's statement,

فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّي هُدًى

Then if there comes to you guidance from Me,

Abu Al-Aliyyah said,

"This (guidance) means the Prophets, the Messengers and the evidence."

فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَ يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى




Then whoever follows My guidance he shall neither go astray nor shall be distressed.

Ibn Abbas said,

"He will not be misguided in this life and he will not be distressed in the Hereafter.
