Al-Qur'an Surah Taha Verse 122

Taha [20]: 122 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

ثُمَّ اجْتَبٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ وَهَدٰى (طه : ٢٠)

Transliteration:

Summaj tabbahu Rabbuhoo fataaba 'alaihi wa hadaa (QS. Ṭāʾ Hāʾ:122)

English / Sahih Translation:

Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him]. (QS. Taha, ayah 122)

Thereafter his Lord chose him. So He accepted his repentance and gave (him) guidance.

Then His Lord chose/purified him, so He forgave on him, and guided.

And they ate there from, and their shame became apparent to them; and they began to stitch upon themselves some leaves of the garden; and Adam rebelled against his Lord, and went astray.

Tafsir jalalayn

Thereafter his Lord chose him, He brought him close [to Him], and relented to him, He accepted his repentance, and guided him, that is, He guided him to seek repentance regularly.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Thus Adam disobeyed his Lord, so he went astray. Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness, and gave him guidance.

Al-Bukhari recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Prophet said,

حَاجَّ مُوسَى ادَمَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجْتَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ بِذَنْبِكَ وَأَشْقَيْتَهُمْ قَالَ ادَمُ يَا مُوسَى أَنْتَ الَّذِي اصْطَفَاكَ اللهُ بِرِسَالَااتِهِ وَبِكَلَامِهِ أَتَلُومُنِي عَلَى أَمْرٍ كَتَبَهُ اللهُ عَلَيَّ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَنِي أَوْ قَدَّرَهُ اللهُ عَلَيَّ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَنِي قال رسول اللهصلى الله عليه وسلّم فَحَجَّ ادَمُ مُوسَى

Musa argued with Adam and he said to him, "Are you the one who got mankind expelled from Paradise because of your sin and you caused them grief!"

Adam replied, "Are you the one whom Allah chose for His Divine Messages and His direct Speech! Are you blaming me for a matter that Allah wrote upon me before He created me!"

Then, the Messenger of Allah said, (Thus, Adam defeated Musa.
